Brunell's got a strained rib muscle. Make sure to follow his progress during the week.
What's interesting here is that Campbell has been taking all of the first team snaps the last two weeks while Brunell's been resting and the team had its bye. The depth chart for the purposes of QB changes if Brunell is injured during a game is:
Brunell
Collins
Campbell
The idea behind this is that if Brunell goes down in a game, the veteran Collins would be better able to handle the offense off the bench without a week's worth of preparation beforehand. If, however, Gibbs made the QB change mid-week, then the depth chart would be:
Brunell
Campbell
Collins
The reason why this is interesting is, hypothetically, Brunell is still listed as the starter but he's Questionable going into Sunday and is then pulled from the lineup before the start of the game, Campbell would have gotten in a lot of work this week. Would that be good enough to allow him to start? Gibbs insisted that the system I outlined above would continue to hold and would apply to this upcoming game, but I still wonder whether he'd flat out declare Campbell the starter beforehand if he could avoid it.
Either way, monitor Brunell if he's in the mix to start for you this week.
