Bucs Homers - Draft Opinions (1 Viewer)

Now that we've signed Leftwich, which I'm actually very happy about as I feel that he could be a solid starter for us for several years, despite the hitch in his mechanics, who do you want in the first round?

I would love to get Percy Harvin at 19, even though he was injury prone in college, he has game-changing speed and "plays faster" than his 40-time at the combine. Would also give us a "wildcat" option at QB.

I think the top DT and CB will be off the board by the time we pick.

Harvin to Tampa makes a lot of sense. Could also see him going to Minnesota at #22.

Harvin is dropping like a brick. Bucs will select Peria.
Man, I really don't want Jerry. If we're going to go DL, I want to trade up and get Raji. What I'd *really* like to do is package a few picks (maybe this year's first and next year's second) for either Braylon Edwards or Anquan Boldin...

I think the Bucs would be fortunite to get Jerry at pick 19. I doubt he will still be available there however.

They seem pretty set at the skill positions although they all could use upgrades. QB or RB would be more likely than WR or TE. Tampa has a very good young offensive line. I think it is more likely they look for defense. I think they are fairly settled on DBs so if Jenkins is not there I think a player at LB might be the best fit. There was some talk about moving Phillips to WLB in some sets if FA Crowell isn't healthy or they are not ready to give the start to Quincy Black or Geno Hayes. If a LB is high enough on their board, Jenkins and Jerry are already gone then maybe a OLB would be highest on their board.

New defensive coordinator Bates runs a different defense than Kiffin's cover 2. So remains to be seen who is still available there. I suspect the pick will be defense though.

Remember we signed Derrick Ward, so I think we're set at RB completely. I'd like to give Leftwich a shot, I think he can be our long term starter. I'm hopping Morris/Bates will move Barber to Nickle Back, as he's just not a cover corner anymore. We really need a run stopping DL, a cover corner, and a WR, IMHO.

I don't think WR is a pressing issue for us this year. Certainly not that we should spend our first round pick on one. I think the O is pretty solid right now, assuming whoever the starting QB is can manage the O. I would like to see the draft shore up the defense.

Havins success may have had something to do with playing against defenses that were forced to leave a safety in the box because of Tebow. Not saying he won't be good, but I wouldn't touch him at 19 with all the needs we have on D. Our run D was the weakest part of our D last year, so D line or a LB is what I think we need the most.

I'm hoping for some D-line help so that they can improve in that aspect. IIRC, they don't have a 2nd round pick, so they better make this one count. I would also lile to see them trade away some picks to get either Boldin or Edwards.

I don't see how trading away picks for Boldin/Edwards makes sense when the Bucs franchised Bryant, re-signed Clayton, traded for Winslow, signed Ward, and have a number of defensive holes.

It was wishful thinking. Without that 2nd round pick, they wouldn't have enough picks to move for either player.

If Raji or Jerry don't fall into our laps, I say BPA.

This is unpoplular, but I wouldn't mind seeing Andre Smith fall to 19. We do have a young potentially great OL...but Trueblood is still a ? at RT, and who knows how the LT position will be in 2 years. I'd love another 10-year player on the OL.

Ya. I really doubt Raji or Jerry will still be available at 19. Maybe one of the DE prospects will through and be a fit.The main need is OLB and there are several good ones worth taking at pick 19. So I think that is the most likely pick.I agree though that if Smith was still there he should be a consideration. The Bucs have imo one of the top 5 Olines in the league. Adding a player like Smith could possibly give them THE best line in the league.

If Andre Smith falls to 19 that would be the steal of the draft.

So, we wound up with Freeman anyway. I'm extremely disappointed. Why Freeman? Am I the only one that thinks he's more of a 3rd round pick than a 1st?
