Bucs MLB McKenzie (1 Viewer)

nothing new boss this has been the case since the lockout ended!! Probably a good thing for Foster to work his way in slowly!!!

I loved McKenzie as a rookie but an injury put him behind the 8-ball with Mayo established and Spikes dropping to them in the draft. Now far removed from the injury and comfortable with his new team, he could very well make Foster wait. I can imagine they're both good dynasty stashes b/c McKenzie may show well and hit FA next year.

Agree. Bloom and I have had a couple of conversations about him and have always felt the same.I still think Foster wins this job pretty quickly, but it's not the slam dunk it would have been had there been a week of offseason workouts to allow Foster to get a little comfort in the playbook.

Any chance they stick Foster on the outside and put McKenzie in the middle.

Only if Black or Hayes is injured.

Apparently Foster has taken the lead

While Tyrone McKenzie was the starting middle linebacker early in training camp, it appears that Mason Foster is now taking over. The third-round draft pick out of Washington has been the starting middle linebacker in practice since yesterday

This also mentions the middle linebacker not playing on passing downs. Foster doesn't look so hot anymore.
It's still early.

Bucs rookie Foster getting most reps with first-team defense

The Bucs clearly want third-round pick Mason Foster to win the starting job at middle linebacker and he's getting every chance to do just that.

Foster, the former Washington star, took all the reps with the first-team defense in Saturday morning's walk-through and is in a battle with second-year pro Tyrone McKenzie and rookie Derrell Stephens, an undrafted rookie from Syracuse.

"He's doing well. It's hard to say the job is his and you've got to go through the bullets,'' coach Raheem Morris said of Foster. "You've got to go through the games, you've got to go out there and prove yourself. But you want to give him an opportunity to win it. He's doing a nice job of picking everythiung up and competing. I talked about (Derrell) Smith a couple times and he's doing a nice job as well and T-Mack is also out there competing. So we've got to let these guys go out and play and fix it in a game. But he is getting some reps with the first group. I believe this morning he might have taken all of them. It's fun.''

Let's see what they do in tonight's practice.

Rookie Mason Foster was listed as the Bucs' starting middle linebacker on their preliminary preseason depth chart.

Pre-preseason depth charts are usually not set in stone, but Foster is locked in as Tampa Bay's starting Mike linebacker. The Bucs will likely start three rookies in the front seven -- Foster, LE Da'Quan Bowers, and RE Adrian Clayborn. It's good news for Foster's IDP value and bad news for Tampa's run defense. It looked like Foster started last night, too, against the Chiefs.
He did, and I thought he looked pretty good. He was not afraid to pursue and put his head down and hit somebody. He seemed to have a headhunter mentality to me.

When Foster's off the field so is the MLB helmet with communication from the sideline. This is probably just temporary as I think he will work his way in in a few weeks.

I can't see Foster playing in the nickel this year. The Bucs are not in need because both Hayes and Black are very capable in coverage. There is no need to rush him as an every down LB. I might agree if the Bucs were in need there, but they aren't.

Ok. Then do you think they'll give someone else the helmet?

Quincy Black has been wearing the Communicator since last week.

That makes sense. Last story I read said when on the sidelines the helmet would be there too.
