Bulger (1 Viewer)

Marc Bulger (concussion) will have a neuropsych exam Tuesday to determine whether he'll be medically cleared for Week 14. Gus Frerotte will undergo an MRI on his shoulder.

Beat writer Steve Korte points out that the Rams are "two bad medical tests away from having Brock Berlin as their starting QB." Frerotte was never reported to have been hurt and didn't miss a snap Sunday, so his tests seems precautionary. Bulger has "shown improvement," according to coach Scott Linehan, and we suspect will start at Cincinnati if his exam goes well. Dec. 3 - 6:50 pm et

AOL12/04/07 07:04 PMTHE NEWSMarc Bulger passed a neursopsych exam Tuesday and will be back on the practice field Wednesday. Unless he experiences some complications later in the week, he will start against Cincinnati this weekend, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Bulger has been out since suffering a concussion in the first quarter in Week 12.Our ViewThis is good news not only for Bulger owners but for anyone who has Steven Jackson, Torry Holt and company. The game this weekend in Cincy should be a shootout.

There are only 3 teams that have NOT thrown for multiple TDs against the Bungels. The Bungels have given up 23 passing TDs on the season.

- Baltimore (0 in 2 games)

- Buffalo (1)

- Tennessee (0)

For the year those teams have passed for x#TDs and x#INTs

- Baltimore - 9/10

- Buffalo - 6/11

- Tennessee - 7/14

With Steven Jackson back and healthy, I'd say Bulger is a safe play for 250 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT = good for 20 points in most leagues

Far from a lock.

Who can blame Bulger for wanting to play it safe?

Rams quarterback Marc Bulger has been a tough guy this season. He has absorbed a terrible beating playing behind an ever-changing cast of offensive linemen.

He has played hurt. He has soldiered on through broken ribs and a bum knee. But playing with a concussion . . . no, Bulger isn't interested in taking that risk for the good of the franchise.

And can you blame him? Does anybody want to see this guy end up like former Rams quarterback Chris Miller?

It's good to see that he is thinking straight.

"I'm trying to walk that fine line to being selfish, being that team guy," Bulger said Wednesday afternoon, after going through his first practice since suffering his concussion two games back. "But when it comes to long-term health, the rest of my life . . . I'm going to be 100 percent."

So, no, he can't promise that he will start in Cincinnati.

"I haven't been able to do anything for the last 10 days," Bulger said. "The baseline test, I passed that, that was just to get me back on the practice field. This is the first step, take the baseline test. It's not, 'you take this test and you're cleared to play.' It's one thing to take the test and be cleared to practice. It's another thing to be cleared to play in an NFL game.

"I'm going to keep talking to the doctors and keep my eye on how things go the next couple of days and we'll go through there. I practiced today. I was a little tired. I thought it was from being off 10 days or what. Keep monitoring it throughout the week and see how it goes."

for bulger to get cleared for game action, at practice they should just let the defensive lineman run at him with no Oline to get him used to game simulations and hits. if he can handle that then they should clear him for game action.

Rams QB Bulger suffers setback in recovery from concussion; Berlin could start at Bengals

2007-12-07 15:05

ST. LOUIS (AP) -Rams quarterback Marc Bulger had a setback in his recovery from a concussion, meaning it's possible third-stringer Brock Berlin, who has never attempted a pass in a regular-season game, might start Sunday at Cincinnati.

Bulger passed a neurological exam Tuesday and was cleared to practice but began feeling poorly during meetings Thursday afternoon, Rams coach Scott Linehan said, adding that the decision on a starter is likely to be made late Saturday.

Regular backup Gus Frerotte will be the emergency quarterback for the Rams. Frerotte partially tore the labrum in his right (throwing) shoulder in Sunday's win over Atlanta. Frerotte can hand off, but is unable to throw, Linehan said.

``Right now, I'm just getting ready to play,'' Berlin said. ``If my number is called, I'll be ready to play. Football is football. I've played it my whole life. If it does come, it's a great opportunity.''

The Rams have added 35-year-old veteran Todd Bouman to the roster. The 11-year veteran out of St. Cloud State practiced Friday. He has played in 42 games with Minnesota, Green Bay, New Orleans and Jacksonsville.

Bulger, who was not made available to the media after practice Friday, was injured in the first quarter of a 24-19 loss to the Seahawks on Nov. 25 and had failed the neurological exam last week. After passing the test Tuesday, he worked out Wednesday and Thursday and took some limited snaps Friday.

``He was able to pass his baseline test and that put him into position to practice,'' Linehan said. ``He had, what I thought, were two really good practices Wednesday and Thursday. He didn't feel real good in the afternoon meetings. Because of that, it's put some question in my mind as to whether or not he should be cleared to play.''

The Rams' medical personnel, coaches, trainers and Bulger will discuss the situation before a decision is made.

``We're not going to put anybody who is not 100 percent in harm's way,'' Linehan said. ``After I gather the information, I'll make a decision if he'll be our starting quarterback or if he'll be up at all.''

It's been an injury-plagued season for Bulger, who has also missed time because of broken ribs and a sprained thumb. Bulger has completed 61 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and nine interceptions in what has been a disappointing season after he signed a six-year, $65 million contract extension on the first day of training camp.

That deal made him the highest-paid player in franchise history. The contract included $27 million in guaranteed money and put him in a group of six quarterbacks making $10 million annually.

The 26-year-old Berlin was activated from the practice squad Nov. 27.

``I told Brock to get ready after the meeting Thursday afternoon,'' Linehan said.

The University of Miami graduate was undrafted in 2005 despite going 19-5 as a two-year starter for the Hurricanes. He has spent time with Dallas and Miami, as well as the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europe.

After practice, Berlin and Bouman stayed longer and threw passes to various receivers. In the locker room, Torry Holt spent several minutes with Berlin at his locker.

``We were chatting just in case,'' Holt said. ``We were going over some things; just trying to have some clarity. ... I thought he looked good in practice. Brock has a big arm. We'll see how it goes.''

Bouman has six starts in the NFL. He has 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 129-of-230 passing. Bouman played in 2002 for Linehan when he was in Minnesota. He was released by Jacksonville on Nov. 20 after spending three weeks on the Jaguars' active roster.

CB Eric Bassey (knee) and OT Rob Petitte (concussion) are out for Sunday's game, and kick returner/receiver Brandon Williams (ankle) is questionable. Williams will be replaced by Marques Hagans.

I know, I know, it is too early, but my playoff spot (going for the #1 draft pick) hinges on Bulger. It is my first time in this new league and the waivers lock down way early, so my QBs were Bulger, Harrington and Grossman and of course as of today, I don't know if any will play the rest of the year. It is a deep roster league, so there were no good waiver options and of course when waivers closed I did actually have 3 starting QBs.

Anyway, just wondering if any homers out there know how close he was to being cleared to play, etc.
