Bullitt, Melvin IND S (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
#1 ranked DB this week and noone is talking about him? Projections = to a Top 5 LB. Feed me the GOODS!!!!!!

The guys mentioned this in the IDP podcast last night, have a listen.

To summarise, he's being used in the same way as Bob Sanders - 8th man in the box and matching up against a struggling rookie at QB. Gotta figure the Ravens willl run the ball lots so lots of tackle opportunities. He looked solid in coverage as well.

We did discuss him on the podcast this week, and a little bit last week too maybe.

Here's a taste of what the subscribers have gotten on him this week to supplement Norton's projection.

W6 Upgrades

S Melvin Bullitt, IND (6 solos, 4 assists, 0 sacks 0 FF, 0 FR, 1 INT, 1 PD) - A report came out this week that Bob Sanders is expected to be out of the Colts lineup until November. That additional window of opportunity could make his replacement, Melvin Bullitt, a viable player to pick up if you're looking for additional DB depth to get you through the bye weeks. Bullitt made the team as an undrafted free agent last year and he's now put up 12 solos, 6 assists, and an interception in his two starts. He's a bit of a liability in the secondary, but he's also likely to see plenty of tackle opportunities as the Colts continue to struggle against the run.

W6 RTD

In the past, it's been Antoine Bethea who assumed the bulk of the value after a Bob Sanders injury. This time around, it's undrafted free agent Melvin Bullitt, who looks very active and capable at SS. Bullitt had a very favorable scouting profile for IDP leaguers two drafts ago, but wasn't able to crack an NFL roster. Bullitt is showing off his solid in-the-box safety skills now, however, and should be a solid bye week/injury replacement as long as he remains a starter in Indianapolis.

W6 EOTG

Bob Sanders being injured is hardly something new. What is new this year is who the club has plugged in as his replacement. When Sanders first went down we at FBG were telling you that Antoine Bethea was the guy to pick up. That had been the case when Sanders was injured previously and Matt Giordano replaced him. Now that we have seen a few games, its clear why the club decided to go with Melvin Bullitt instead of Giordano. If not for the different number no one would know that Sanders is gone. The coaches are using Bullitt just like the would use Sanders and he producing just like Sanders who by the way, is not close to returning. Bullitt is has gone 6-2 and 6-4 with a pick in his 2 starts and seems very likely to continue that kind of production. Especially when you consider the Colts inability to stop the run up front and their upcoming schedule that includes Baltimore, Green Bay, Tennessee, New England, Pittsburgh and San Diego over the next 6 weeks. Grab this guy if you have a need or room.

W6 IDP Matchups (Tackle Matchup to Exploit)

Indianapolis defenders Vs Baltimore (Matchup of the Week)

The Ravens, regardless of how much their 27th ranked scoring offense has struggled, have been a very good matchup for opposing defenses. They have consistently provided well above-average rush attempts (40.3 per game) and have run more offensive snaps on average (68.3) than any other team in the league. Coupled with the inability of the Indianapolis defense to get off the field quickly (6th most offensive snaps faced), this would appear to be a very good tackle matchup for all the Colt defenders. Look for all three linebackers to have great weeks and watch for Melvin Bullitt to continue his solid trend of production.

I have a semi-new question to ask. While I know no one has a crystal ball, is Bullitt seen as a good pick-up for those in dynasty leagues? Or must Bob Sanders always be hurt for him to have success?

Bullitt won't play ahead of a healthy Sanders and Bethea. He's not really a Cover-2 safety. He's a good pickup for the short term only.

I'm a Bullitt owner, and I believe so. He's really not going to see any real time on the field with Sanders back. He is probably the best at his position when healthy so, safe to cut bait. But before you do, I'd make sure Sanders was definitely back for week 9.

(Rotoworld) The Colts were impressed with SS Melvin Bullitt's play in the absence of Bob Sanders and are trying to make him a large part of the defense.

Analysis: "We've got to find ways to get Melvin in the game," coach Tony Dungy said. He's likely to share snaps with Sanders this week, leaving neither as an attractive IDP play.

Good comment. I'd also consider keeping Bullitt for the next Sanders injury (two weeks?)

If he could play CB, then he could move over there....looks like Marlin Jackson is likely out for the year
Ugh, torn ACL in practice yesterday for Jackson. Bullitt can't play corner and neither will Bethea. May finally be time for Daymeion Hughes to show his potential.
Isn't Hughes hurt himself?News Articles > Colts | Hughes misses practice Wednesday Published Wed Oct 29 6:40:43 p.m. CT 2008 (KFFL) Indianapolis Colts CB Dante Hughes (ankle) missed the team's practice Wednesday, Oct. 29, and his status for Week 9 is uncertain.

With Sanders apparently close to returning is it time for us to bite the Bullitt and cut bait?
No. Bench him but keep him if you can.
I suppose this is the best route, Sanders is injury prone, but I don't really have roster space to hope for an injury to occur. I went with Sabby while Jermaine is out for the next month, he should put up very similar if not better numbers then bullitt.

This week's game should tell us alot because someone has to take Jacksons place in 3 reciever sets. Jackson played on the slot guy which put him in a great position to make tackles and sacks. Does Bulitt get those snaps , will 3 LBs be on the field or will they go with an undersized CB (Hayden probably with Hughes going outside). If its a LB we should see passes, if its a CB we should see runs and if its Bulitt then pick your poison. Could bee a positive for a LB or Hayden but may just spread the wealth (I had to) if its Bulitt.

Marlin Jackson was as multi-dimensional as he was good.

:thumbdown:Dungy had moved Jackson into Ronde Barber's once-productive role. It'll be very interesting to see how this one plays out. Unfortunately, the long term winner here may not even be playing today with all the injuries in the back seven.
