Bump Brandon Bostick? TE - GB (1 Viewer)

I've been debating on this all week.. I really need a TE this week with Bennett out, Quarless and Bostick were on the waivers. I grabbed Quarless in FCFS, but reading this made me reconsider dropping him for Bostick.

After some research, I dug up this local article. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/andrew-quarless-reluctantly-accepts-promotion-b99126796z1-229033111.html

I ended up dumping another dynasty prospect and picking up Bostick also just in case he blows up, but I think with the emotion and what reads to be a friend wanting to "do right" by his buddy, I am rolling with Quarless this week. I still don't know that's the best decision, but that's how I'm rolling this week.
Research such as looking 19 posts up the page?

Guess I missed that one. Thanks for setting me straight though.

ive watched quarless since he was a rookie. he knows the system, but really hasnt shown anything in the times that he has had an opportunity. i feel like he is just a guy. i guess we will just have to wait and see how it shakes out though

Bostick sighting this week, yet no one is talking about him. 3 fo 42 with his first receiving TD while playing a career high 28 snaps. With pop-gun armed Flynn coming to town, and Tolzien obviously throwing to Bostick, could be a good time to grab him.

In dynasty, it certainly doesn't hurt the value of the pick-up that news just broke this week that Finley's having spinal surgery and his career may be over. Bostick could become the go-to TE in this offense for the long-run.

Under-the-radar grab that could pay off down the stretch.

Wow... still silence. These are the types that build dynasties IMO... the guys you get for free that pan out.

Bostick has ridiculous athleticism, plays in an explosive offense, and has been quietly impressing the Pack for two years now. Probably going to get a chance to shine down the stretch...

Got him off waivers in my league. Giddy up :pickle:

Bostick had two outlet catches and his touchdown came on busted coverage, but it's pretty clear from the small bit we saw that he has the requisite size, speed, fluid athleticism and ball skills to be a potential TE1 for FF if he gets to take over for Finley next year. At worst he is Fred Davis, but he could be more.

He also chased down a CB on an interception, displaying that athleticism. My point is that the opportunity is there, and regardless of the types of catches, he played a season-high in snaps. Quarless hasn't done ANYTHING of note... we'll see what happens, but Bostick's a worthwhile flyer if there ever was one.

he played 37% of the snaps, I think it was, but a couple weeks ago, in his game with rodgers, he played something like 34%.

... and he flashed on his snaps for the first time. Quarless certainly isn't the answer. Maybe Bostick isn't either, but I think he's worth a roster spot to find that out. Coaches have raved about him for a while. Can't question the opportunity in front of him...

To each his own. I'll roster him.

I think with this mini breakout of his, he will see more of the Finley type plays. Being on the PS with Tolzien is a big help in my opinion. There is some trust there that I think they will build on it. I am definitely picking him up and dropping Coby "Handsofstone" Fleener. 10 targets last week and 4 receptions! Yeesh!

Effectively, that's the same move I made. Got in a roster crunch and had to cut Fleener last week (which frankly I was OK with -- no one wanted to trade even a 3rd or 4th for him). Could have tried to get him back from waivers, but I prioritized Bostick.

'flashed' meaning he caught a ball?

I haven't seen the guy, don't know anything about the guy, and certainly am not trying to talk anybody off the guy, but there isn't a need for misleading hyperbole on these guys if they really are good.

as a % of total team snaps he's been right around a third every week he's been in there --- no need to paint it like he's steadily been gaining ground, and the first couple weeks I don't even think he got a target.

it might've taken tolzien's familiarity with the guy to even break the ice with those 3 targets, and discount doublecheck will be back in a week or two.

like I said, I'm not knocking the guy, and am even on the fence about picking him up, but if he's so awesome and all that why didn't rawdgers throw him a ball when they were on the field together?

I think his lack of production can be put down to the game plan and familiarity . With Rodgers in there, there was less checking down to the TE or even targeting the TE with Finley out. Also, he probably had thrown all of 10 balls to Bostick since he has been with the team. With Tolzein, he has both tons of practice time and a definite need to check down a bit more.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he is the second coming of Graham or Gronk. I think he is a cheap pickup with a very easy schedule. He obviously has more value in Keeper and Dynasty leagues than Redraft.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes Brandon Bostick "could very well be" the Packers' "future" at tight end.

Jermichael Finley is a free-agent-to-be and may never play football again after undergoing single-level fusion surgery for a herniated disc in his neck. "If he can just get it in his mind that nobody can stop him, and go out there and play the way he plays at practice, he's going to become a great player because he has all the tools," teammate James Jones said. Bostick has seen his snaps rise in the absence of Finley, and he's registered four catches for 68 yards and one touchdown. The coaching staff admits he needs to improve as a blocker to see more playing time. Bostick should be owned in dynasty formats.

You should read the article Faust posted above. It's basically my POV -- the guy can be special as a receiver. They're working on his blocking.

Finley's not coming back -- in that article it talks about how the spinal surgeon the Packers trust most won't clear players with a fusion higher than C3/C4, so Finley's done with the Pack. That means the TE of the future has yet to be found for GB, and the coaches love this kid's athletic abilities and what he can do in the receiving game.

He's just got to block a little better, an area they say he's making progress, and he'll be playing with the best QB in the game the vast majority of the snaps. He's worth a roster spot.

Starting with mild confidence. Also lost Reed. Outside of the top 15, Bostick seems as good a bet as any to have a TD.

Lost Reed as well. Going to pick up and start Bostick or Carlson. Leaning heavily towards Bostick.

He was in for 37% of the snaps a couple of weeks ago. Does anyone know that percentage last week v. the NYG?

Bostick played 25 offensive snaps to 31 for Quarless. 46% of the total offensive snaps to 57% for Quarless.

He's gonna be risky, even if there is upside.

There's absolutely potential for a Finley-like late season and playoff run if he keeps getting on the field more.

Reed/JT owner here who may be forced to start Bostick as well.

There's a lot of upside here IMO and aside from the obvious potential and rapport with Tolzein you have to like the match-up, MIN has been absolutely awful against TEs this year..

Fauria - 3/27/1

Bennett - 7/76/2

Cameron - 6/66/3

H. Miller - 6/70/0

Witten - 8/102/1

Reed - 6/62/1

Z. Miller - 4/69/0

Great info. May have just solidified my choice.

Question - is the rapport with Tolzien you're referring to him just based off Bostick's increased performance the last couple of weeks, or is there something else I may be missing?

I believe they spent a good amount of time (at least a year) on the practice squad together.

tolzien was with San Fran in preseason. Love how people just make things ups

My mistake. I was reading how Tolzien spent several years on a practice squad and assumed it was GBs; I wasn't aware it was with SF.

Not making #### up, just ignorant.

I may need to make the choice between Tim Wright or Bostick because I don't trust that Julius Thomas will play... Leaning Wright despite his low production the last few wks... I believe that Bosticks biggest value is in keeper or dynasty leagues and I think Wrights stinkers the past 2 wks have more to do with Tampa running the ball with great success against Miami in the midst of turmoil and against a terrible falcons run defense... Detroit is awfully tough against the run lately and I expect them to put up some points and force Tampa to throw it around a lot to stay in the game... Reading this topic makes me excited or the future with Bostick but I think for this wk I'm gonna roll with Mr. Wright

while I own Bostick in dynasty, no way I'd start himPick up Dressen or one of the other TE's like Fred Davis that are playing Sunday night or later so you can make a last minute switch if JT doesn't play

Rotoworld:

Packers TE Brandon Bostick (concussion) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Lions.

Bostick didn't practice all week and is expected to be a game-time decision. He has five catches for 92 yards and a touchdown playing behind Andrew Quarless the last three weeks. If Bostick is held out, he should have no trouble getting cleared for Week 14.

Rotoworld:

The Packers are "excited" to "take a greater look" at TE Brandon Bostick.

Jermichael Finley and Andrew Quarless are both free agents. Bostick is rehabbing from a broken foot, but is expected to be ready for the offseason program and needs to be on the radar in all deeper Dynasty leagues. The Newberry College product is going to get a chance to be the Packers' pass-catching tight end of the future.

Brandon Bostick - TE - Packers

Brandon Bostick has been working on being a more complete tight end.

A converted receiver, Bostick was talked up by Mike McCarthy as the Packers' best blocking tight end earlier this offseason. He missed the majority of OTAs recovering from foot surgery, and has fallen behind Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless on the depth chart. Bostick will be fully cleared for training camp.

Brandon Bostick worked mostly with the Packers' starting offense on Wednesday.

Third-round rookie TE Richard Rodgers drew all the hype during the spring, but that partly had to do with Bostick being sidelined as he recovered from foot surgery. Now healthy, Bostick is getting the bulk of the reps with the ones. By all accounts, he's looked impressive. Bostick capped off a two-minute drill with a fourth-down touchdown to close out practice Wednesday. The best athlete of the bunch at tight end in Green Bay, Bostick needs to be watched closely.

sounds like he's looking pretty good, more hype each day

Brandon Bostick impresses once again

Much of the talk this off-season for Green Bay’s tight end position has been about rookie Richard Rodgers … and Jermichael Finley (who isn’t even on the team’s roster). Yet today, a lot of talk was about Newberry product Brandon Bostick who continues his strong play this week. Bostick made some mistakes – including a fumble during the four-minute drill that was caused by cornerback Jarret Bush – but he made more plays to offset them.

One of those plays came on a box out over Bush in the end zone for a score. Later, he outstretched and hauled in a pass from Aaron Rodgers to cross the pylon once again. This is a pretty good week for a guy competing in a crowded tight end group.

I could post a bunch more. This is the time to buy if you haven't already

I think im gonna stick with the rookie rodgers on this one. Ive seen bosticks game and im not very impressed.....

Snagged him late last yr and held despite the growing rookie Rodgers buzz only because why the heck not... I think maybe a lot of the buzz of others was the opportunity that is available at that position and the relative unknown potential for someone like Bostick... After missing everything prior to training camp I'm happy to see that he is impressing now that he is healthy

Brandon Bostick - TE - Packers

Packers coaches are anxious to see Brandon Bostick get back on the field on offense.

Bostick fractured his fibula in the preseason and made his debut last week against the Jets. He didn't play any offensive snaps, but TEs coach Jerry Fontenot said "he's on his way. We're getting there." Andrew Quarless and rookie Richard Rodgers have been handling tight end duties, but have brought nothing to the table as pass catchers. Bostick is the best athlete of the group. Once he gets his legs back under him, expect Bostick to become a major part of the offense.

I am anxious to see what this guy can do. The other options have had through the first two weeks were nothing to write home about, so maybe he can add another dimension.

Rotoworld:

ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky said it sounds like TE Brandon Bostick's "practice habits have not warranted playing time."

Bostick missed Week 1 with a leg injury, and has been limited almost exclusively to special teams in the Packers' other two games. Bostick is the most athletic option in Green Bay's tight end corps, but will have to improve his consistency to earn meaningful snaps.

It blows my mind when I read things like this. You have the perfect opportunity staring you right in the face but you don't practice hard. SMH.

We're talking about guys in their early 20s. You can say the same about the study habits of many college students.

So, the same writer on Twitter an hour ago (was asked what the deal was with Bostick this week)...

@RobDemovsky: @IanMcInnis917 @Bostick11 @packers Would have to think he gets a shot this week

McCarthy said he "wouldn't be surprised" if Bostick saw some playing time this week. Apparently Rodgers can't block and Quarless can't catch. Might be worth the preemptive stash in deeper/TE premium leagues.

Rotoworld:

Coach Mike McCarthy said he hopes to get TE Brandon Bostick more involved on offense the rest of the season.

"I like what Brandon's done the last couple of weeks," McCarthy said. Bostick has played just 20 offensive snaps this season after continuously being compared to Jermichael Finley over summer. But he wasn't practicing well and has had trouble picking up the offense. The Packers have been getting nothing from the tight end spot, with rookie Richard Rodgers struggling badly.

"Said Bostick: "I felt like I had my hands on the ball. It just slipped away, I guess. I just got hit and didn't have the ball."

I've got a clue for you Bostick......not only did the ball never touch your hands, nobody hit you either. You held your hands up like a goal post and the ball sailed right through the middle just like an Adam Vinatieri field goal. The only thing it hit was your freakin' forehead.
