Bump up Brian Roberts (1 Viewer)

Why would this bump Roberts up? He will probably score a few more runs with the Cubbies, but I wonder if he'll run as much as with the Orioles.

The Cubs won the 1908 World Series behind the solid pitching of Orval Overall and Three Finger Mordecai Brown

Alright, um, seriously, has this deal gotten closer or not? I am scraping the bottom of the barrell and if Ronny Cedeno ends up in Baltimore I need him in one of my leagues.

Roberts-to-White Sox an intriguing possibility

Steve Rosenbloom A BIT OF THE ROSENBLOG

March 19, 2008

Just in case you missed it, Tribune baseball bigfoot Phil Rogers stuck a line in his Sunday Whispers column about Brian Roberts going to the Sox, not the Cubs. Yep, the South Side, not the North Side. (sfx: Cubs fans retching)

The protracted and wearying Brian Roberts Hostage Crisis has paralyzed Wrigleyville to the point that all further discussion will be switched from David Kaplan on "Chicago Tribune Live" to Ted Koppel.

From the Sox standpoint, anything is better than Juan Uribe, and you have to believe that general manager Kenny Williams would love to snake Roberts from the drooling Cubs after losing out on Kosuke ####udome, but not just for revenge. No, Roberts would be the kind of leadoff hitter that would eliminate relying on the annoyingly injured Jerry Owens. It also would allow Brian Anderson to just go catch the ball while learning to hit major-league pitching from the bottom of the order without as much pressure as when he replaced beloved-slash-adored-slash-everybody's-new-best-friend Aaron Rowand.

Roberts-to-the-Sox essentially would swap the Nos. 1 and 9 hitters in the lineup, and, let me tell you, going Roberts-Cabrera-Thome-Konerko-Dye-Swisher-Pierzynski-Fields-Anderson is good enough to exchange lumps with Detroit and Cleveland. But the Orioles want prospects for Roberts, and the Sox seem out of them after the Swisher deal.

But now I'm connecting the dots and maybe I need to apologize to Williams for criticizing a potential trade of Joe Crede that wouldn't bring back starting pitching. A Tribune story Friday indicated Williams was talking to the Giants about some of their top prospects in exchange for Crede, and it would be so Williams to acquire somebody else's kids just to trade them for a proven commodity that gives his team a chance to win the World Series ASAP.
and then there is this alsoCubs Allegedly Getting Frustrated, Might He Stay?

Clubs that have spoken with the Cubs report that their frustration with the Orioles is mounting, after three months on the Brian Roberts trail. Despite all the names rumored to be in this deal and all the scouts who have hovered around all those names all spring, the Cubs have been indicating they still haven’t been told by Baltimore what it would take to get this trade done.

Now add in the fact that it’s less than two weeks to Opening Day, and that The Angelos Factor could gum up these talks for who knows how long, even if they make progress. And it’s no wonder the Cubs are beginning to think this seemingly inevitable trade won’t ever happen after all.

Thanks, looks like a speculative add may need to wait until I can shove Prior onto the DL. I think I drafted a solid team, but my SS targets kept getting snaked just before they got to me, I ended up with Alex Gonzalez and his broken knee. I tried to hedge by grabbing super prospect Brandon Wood but now all signs are pointing toward him going back to AAA, something's got to be wrong with him if he can't beat out Erick Aybar for the starting job. Looking more and more like I'll be playing the waiver wire early in the season to field a starting SS 6 days/week. Lovely.

Super prospect Brandon Wood is starting to smell like a bust. His strikeout rates are a major cause for concern. Worse still, he didn't play any spring games at SS. If he ends up at 3B without a huge uptick in offensive production, he's basically a Pedro Feliz type player. We now return you to the Brian Roberts trade watch...

I saw him hit a bit when I was in AZ for a few days, he, unfortunately for LA fans, has bust written all over him. His swing is horrific...
