Busta Rhymes (1 Viewer)

He's in no one's top 5, but he's far from a one-hit-wonder.

Where do you rank him in the Best Rapper of All Time list?

I took "Scenario" in Round 8 of the Black Music draft. Although it's technically a Tribe song, Busta steals the show.

If he's top 100 I'd be surprised. Anything he has tried to do by himself where he's not just rapping on someone else's track is just horrendous. I'm actually surprised the tribe let him hang. Maybe they needed someone to show just how talented they were by comparison.

Exhibit B

Busta Rhymes has had a solid hip hop career. He has released both by himself and been a part of many hit songs. Many more than most artists out there can claim. He is also a great stage performer. In addition, he has been doing this for close to 20 years(and been consistently solid the entire time). He will definitely go down as one of the hip hop greats. top 10? no. Top 20... a case could be made top 30, for sure!

How can you even begin to compare him to someone that has never sold a record? come on man, rapper = rap career. Not Joe freestyle on the corner. There are plenty of good freestyle artists that can't sell records. Busta has had a solid career. To say he's not in the top 100 of all time is laughable.

If rapper = rap career, some of the worst ever like Master P would be near the topPoor reasoning

My point is to leave people that have never sold a record out of the thread.

Then I guess MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice would be near the top. I will ignore all posts from you on this subject from now on. You shouldn't even be allowed to say the words hip and hop in the same sentence unless talking about a rabbit.

Find one person on that list that hasn't.

I really thought that when he went to Aftermath he would be huge, but he hasn't gotten that great of beats. Dre has come out with some good stuff, since 2004. I believe jay-z, 50, Game, and Snoop have all taken some good beats from him, but Busta never got any hits.

Yeah "Roww Roww like a dungeon dragon"

whatta wordsmith

does above answer your ?

yes, I can say that. Busta is terrible. Awful. He makes Lil John look legit (ok, that last one I can't say with a straight face)

 this is a fun thread.

what are judging by? lyrics? of course there are plenty that are better. But if you judge him as an overall MC(lyrics, popularity, sales, length of career, he trumps many on your list. my favoirte mcs are canibus, del, chino xl, elzhi, royce 59.... way better lyricists... but busta has been way more successful. ANd yes, you lost by putting CHi Ali on your list. Dude had 1 album. and his lyrics were very simple. Great album. But lets be serious. and RZA? busta has had a WAY more successful career. i really need to know what you are judging by when you made that list.

talent. songs. you know, end result. again, if this is an album sales/popularity contest, Mc Hammer and Vanilla Ice would be near the top. Are you saying they should be on this list?

Hammer, #2 in sales all-time. Check it:

Listening to Royce 59 right now. Not bad, thx.

I have never like Busta's style but your list is a complete joke. His rhymes are extremely good. No he hasn't had any mainstream success. It's one thing to dislike him, it's another to deny the man's talent.

i never said it was just about sales. you act like busta is an awful lyricist and hasnt released some solid work. his lyrics are better than the majority of mainstream artists. He might not be sayin much, but a lot of times, as long as it comes off hot, it works. especially in mainstream. Check "straight spittin" off the flipmode squad album for an example of his lyrical skills. Im not sayin dude is best ever. But he you have to respect what he has done. And to say he is awful is just ridiculous. But hey, i guess we can agree to disagree.

being an emcee isn't about just rhyming

didn't we establish this in the eighties?

Dude, you can't honestly think he's better than some of the guys you have crossed out. I threw a lot of guys on there that I don't like, but it's just because I honestly think his body of work is total garbage. JMO.What, in your opinion, is the best thing he has ever done as a solo artist? Actually, forget it, you struck through the Pharcyde. Our tastes are obviously pretty much opposite.

Royce59's second song not very good.

please listen to his new mix tape the bar exam 2. royce is going to blow up big time this year!! please listen to

Busta missed his true calling as a hype man. I couldn't quote a single 16 he spit since his solo career started. Still, I don't think I could name 99 rappers I definitively liked better than him.

Jay Dee should've retired after producing half of that crap.
