Buying used smartphone (1 Viewer)

Anyone buy used cell phones? I am on Page Plus and looking to get a 4G phone. It will either be used or an older model but new. I'm looking to spend between $100 - $200.

I'm trying to decide if it's better to get a phone that has a replaceable battery. Some of the phones I'm considering don't have a replaceable battery so if it's an older model phone I could get it new. Some of the models I'm looking at I'd need to buy used to fit my price range.

I was considering Moto X (1st gen), Droid Razr HD or Galaxy S4. I really like what I've seen online regarding the Moto X but my concern is that the battery doesn't come out. This phone is probably my first choice. The Razr HD I can get new. The S4 you can replace the battery.

Any thoughts, relevant experience or suggestions?

I've bought some.

I would definitely get a model with a replaceable battery. Be prepared to be somewhat shocked at how expensive some of these things are though.... I thought tech really lost value fast, but one that's been kept in pretty good condition holds up extremely well.

I"d pick the S4 or s4 mini. Then buy a new battery also off e-bay (those are generally cheap)

pageplus is getting 4G across all phones now? i know they were expected to do it but couldn't give any details when i asked last.

i couldn't hack it with only 3G speeds on my pageplus phone. i went month-to-month with VZW directly and picked up a LG G2 over the summer. works great and has a terrific battery life. i know some here will swear by the replaceable battery but phones are much better equipped to last a full day with moderate use without needing to recharge. don't get hung up on that if you like a phone.

check slickdeals or something this week to see what sales on phones are available.

I don't know if page plus has fully announced it but I go through kittywireless and you can get 4G sim cards from them and start using 4G. My reason for the replaceable battery wasn't so I could swap it out if it didn't last a day - it is more that if I buy a used phone and the battery dies then I'm stuck.

gotcha.

i guess i don't think about that with buying from amazon or ebay. they have warranties and even my credit card covers that too.

I don't get these crappy second tier plans anymore when the major carriers are offering comparable packages these days.

Was it hard getting used to the buttons on the back of the G2?

only for about a week. i use my phone for work a ton. the fact that i can hold the phone and not worry about accidently hitting the volume or powering it off somehow is a huge plus.

you are going to have to get over the non-replaceable battery at some point, they seem to be going the way of the Dodo.

P.S. get a new (Second Gen) Moto G

Had a horrible experience with GLYDE (stolen phone). Had two awesome experiences with buying refurbished phones via TING. Both of the phone I got from TING were as good as new.

You can can get a new 2013 moto x for 229 on ebay. Check slickdeals. If you really want to save money you can get a 4g 2013 Moto G on aio/cricket fpr 25 after rebate. Will get lolipop. This is what I have and it is a nice phone if you don't need as ton of storage and are ok with a so so camera. A lot of bang for the buck. I am on 35 month plan with unlimited text and voice with 1gb high speed data. Perfect for me.

I always buy used, usually eBay and I've never had a problem. I just look and wait for the right deal, and I never buy from power sellers or stores, only individuals.
