Just wanted to pick the SP's collective brain about the newest Bears quarterback. I'm in a league where QB's are scarce and I was lucky to land him. All I know about him is last year's NFC championship where he put in a gutsy effort. I know he's no Rodgers or Cutler, but is this dude at least better than a Blaine Gabbert? What are his prospects for the rest of the fantasy season?

Any help is appreciated - thanks.

Pretty much. Ballsy performance after coming into the NFC Championship as the 3rd string QB. Martz obviously doubts him because he was playing behind Todd Collins, who is quite possibly the worst quarterback I've ever seen. I think he will be do fine managing the game but he won't eclipse 25 attempts in a game unless it's necessary. Forte and Barber will get a whole lot of work the next 4-6 weeks.

He's a fan favorite in Chicago. He always looks fairly good in preseason but somehow took years to get ahead of QB2 types such as Collins, which is mind boggling. He looked decent in the NFC championship game all things considered. Getting QB2 reps all year have hopefully helped.Check out the scouting report:http://blogs.suntimes.com/bears/2011/11/former_bears_college_scouting_.htmlFull Hanie Review: http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Who-is-Caleb-Hanie.htmlQuote:

In conclusion, Gabriel said he knows that Hanie is a "gamer and a winner.""His strong points are he is an excellent athlete with a strong arm and good accuracy," Gabriel wrote. "With his athleticism, he can extend plays with his feet and is a good runner. His main weakness is his lack of regular season game experience. This I know: he is respected by his teammates, is a good leader and, now with two years in the system, feels comfortable."My gut feeling is he is going to play well and lead the Bears to the playoffs. The whole scenario couldn't come at a better time for Hanie."

Athletic, mobile, accurate (to both his team and the opponent) If Vick plays, Hanie is my starter after losing Henne, Schuab, and Cutler this year.

I this his gut feeling was probably just some gas. He's not very good.

In all fairness, the Bears offense is missing its two best players in Cutler and Forte; and the playcalling and passblocking left much to be desired. Also, Knox and Williams didn't exactly do Hanie any favors today...

I'm not going to put this all on Hanie's shoulders, he didn't lose them the game today.
