Calvin Johnson #1 player on Raiders draft board (1 Viewer)

This isn't rocket science :bye: , but the JR fans can't seem to comprehend or accept this reality. I'm sick and tired of hearing about this guy. Until the ND game, he was a consensus 2nd rounder and now he's suddenly the top pick OVERALL??? Has everyone gone insane???
Another reality is that the Raiders may view Russell's upside as 10X more valuable than any WR could ever be. We'll see.

Trade Randy Moss (and possibly a pick) for Aaron Rodgers. Pick CJ with the #1 pick.
Randy Moss is essentially untradeable due to his contract. The Pack isn't going to trade away their QB of the future in Favre's likely last year for an injured head-case WR who hasn't had a good year since 2003 with a ridiculous contract. Go back to Madden.

It's highly possible that Aaron Rodgers is not the future QB for the Packers. No one is untradeable. I suppose the same was being said about Archuleta. And I've never played a minute of Madden thank you very much.

I would say it's a good assumption that if Moss was to be dealt, he'd be willing to restructure, especially to play with Favre.

Here's the million dollar question- if Randy Moss was at his very best and playing for the Raiders, would the Raiders still suck next year. The answer is YES. So even if Johnson ends up being the greatest rookie receiver in NFL history he cant turn this franchise around. The only pick worth that spot for that team is one of the QBs. Other than that you almost have to trade down and get more picks. You dont rebuild a team around a WR, ask the Lions.

The Lions probably aren't a good example of a team rebuilding properly. Moss made a little bit of an impact when he was a rookie.

True, but the Vikings had Randall Cunningham, Robert Smith, and Chris Carter, not to mention 3 of their o-linemen went to the pro-bowl. The Vikings were 9-7 the year before Moss was drafted, they had the core of a good team to build on. Is there a name on the Raiders that remotely touches any of those guys? When Lemont Jordan is the biggest name on your roster you've got a severe problem. This team is a disgrace and a great WR is a luxury. You dont start building a house by buying a hottub.

I hate the Raiders, and I agree they have been a disgrace. The Art Shell experiment was a joke. I'm not sure how Kiffin will work out. But, they have a very good D. Jordon is at least serviceable; it wasn't too long ago that people thought he was the next big thing. Jerry Porter is good and could be really good if he gets his head on straight. Ronald Curry is good. Talks (rumors) that they could be going after a trade for a qb. They need to get better on the Oline. They could turn into a really good team a lot quicker than people think. And if CJ is a hottub, he's a hottub that comes with 5 naked hotties included. :D

I'll take CJ and the 5 naked hotties :moneybag:

Russell is in Oakland today, right? Should we expect any relevant news?
I doubt it. I would think the Raiders wouldn't begin negotiationg so soon, if they are still thinking a big trade might happen. CJ was in the other day. And Quinn is still telling anyone that'll listen that he should be the #1 pick.

Oakland is free to begin contract negotiations. That would be relevant...
Is there a date when this is allowed to start? I've wondered when Oakland would begin negotiating with prospective players.
I've never heard of a hard and fast date. Once the Juniors had declared, and the order was set, I think, technically, teams can start negotiating. it's a moot point, as I can't see teams starting negotiations until the week of the draft.

Only the team with the first pick can enter early negotiations, iirc. And yes, they can do so anytime after the order is set, again, iirc.

IIRC, the Texans began negotiating with Mario Williams the night before the draft. Go back to when they selected Carr, and I think they started very early.

I'm biased, so take this with a grain of salt, but :fro: .The Raiders are one Toad DT away from have a dominant defense. The OLine is being addressed via the additions of Tom Cable, the zone blocking scheme, Jeremy Newberrry (who claims to be fully healthy) and Cooper Carlisle. I think this unit will improve big time.RB is average to slightly above with Jordan/Rhodes/Fargas. Plus they signed Robert Griffith, a solid FB from Atl.WRs, especially with the addition of CJ will be awesome! CJ/Porter/Curry/Gabriel.TEs are subpar, tho John Madsen might surprise a lot of people. He gained 20 lbs of muscle this offseason and is up to 245 (converted WR with good hands/speed).QB is the biggest ???, but I think with a solid D, a better OL, a modern offensive scheme, and some crazy weapons at WR, that this offense might be okay with a guy like Walter/McCown/Trent Edwards. The Raiders are no where near competing for a title, but a surge to 8-8 or even maybe a little better isn't beyond the realm of reason. It will all com down to Kiffin and the new coaching staff I think.
