There was a ton of hype initially, but I think he has had a very quiet preseason. I can't seem to find many updates or anything about how he is progressing. Any Lions-homers have some insight?

he hasn't had a ton of balls thrown his way, but he has made a few spectacular catches IMO...
Martz is hiding him a la Anquan Boldin for a surprise attack on Fabian Washington on opening day. Look for two scores from CJ2 to start his career off right. I especially love the scripted "his legs are too tired and he hasn't picked up the offense" speech from Martz. I call shenanigans, smoke and mirrors. Kid was an engineering student. He can grasp any offense. And he's known for an absolutely tremendous work ethic. His legs may or may not be "tired" but they'll rebound just fine if they are.The few catches he's made have been legit. Kid is he real deal.full disclosure: CJ2 owner

He's only played about 30 - 40 plays total, very few if any with RW on the field at the same time. In practice, he has wowed visitors. Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan saw him practice and came away with the idea that the combo changed the way the sidelines will be used in games. They were more than impressed. But your right, we've seen nothing except one spectacular catch and one play where Sean McDonald got the easiest touchdown of his career because all the defenders went to him. But no drops either.

I'm a huge CJ fan in general, but he's coming from a real crap offensive system so he might not be as NFL-ready as some people think. He might actually take until year 2 to become a star like he was a regular rookie or something.

J.T. O'Sullivan, or whatever he is, almost got him killed twice this weekend with horrible throw. The second one, Calvin did his best Randy Moss impression by watching the horrid pass sail by. He may have been able to get a hand on it just in time to be leveled by the safety.

I highly doubt the Martz offense is more complicated than even the easiest engineering curriculum.
