Cam becoming must start at this point? (1 Viewer)

He's really come on and looks like the Newton we saw last year. Very impressed with how much his accuracy has come on - he's hitting guys in the numbers now. 46 and 34 in my league the last 2 weeks, and he hung 34 points on Atlanta in their first meeting. With his rushing ability is he becoming a must start? How would you rank him the rest of the way? Who are the QB's you'd start ahead of him?

Yes

His passing numbers are better than last years except completion avg.

I've never had him out of my lineup. He's had some average games buy I never vowed him as a spot starter. His upside is just too damn high to bench him.

Yup. Unless you had Brees or RG3 as well, there's really no reason you should have benched Newton. Upside is limitless.

Really thought I'd be playing Eli most of the way, but let's face it he hasn't panned out. Hopefully he'll get hot in December as always but even with the Saints as a matchup I'm not sure. Falcons/Saints looked like a shootout too and that never happened. Cam is the Panthers offense, and he's playing with confidence. May have to buck the FBG rankings - they have Eli way higher in prelinary cheatsheets so far.

Up until two weeks ago he was QB12 in FBG scoring, below Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton and Josh Freeman among others, and he was ranked in even lower in 6-pt Passing leagues (QB18 in one of mine).I'm a big Cam fan, hes clearly had a stellar two weeks (against two putrid defenses mind you) and he may be a must start from here on in (week 16 looks like a particularly great matchup), but lets not pretend that he hasn't been putting up some subpar outings this year, especially relative to his ADP.

no question everyone has bad outings- talk to brees owners - and can has had his share. But the reality is he can drop 40 any given week. Which is why I always risk the bad for the really elite.

OK lets compare Brees and Newton through 11 weeks. - Brees was QB1 over the same period, averaging 21.8 PPG. As mentioned, Newton was QB12, averaging 17.5 PPG.- on a week to week basis, QB12 has averaged 19.2 ppg according to FBG scoring through 11 weeks. Brees failed to hit that total once. Newton has failed to hit 19.2 points five times, so in half the games this season owners starting Newton have scored below the baseline for a starting QB in 12 team leagues.Cam has the talent to be elite and has shown flashes, especially the last two weeks. But the inconsistency he's shown this year has been far more stark for than for the truly elite QBs. He has a way to go still and in the meantime his week-to-week inconsistency this year has been killing owners who spent a 3rd rounder on him.

Tlayb is correct to a point.. yes cam has been killing owners.. me included.. but he is money as of now.. start him until he faulters

I know I may regret it, but I think I'm starting Luck over him this weekend. Love the matchup versus a terrible Titans D.

Up until 2 weeks ago I was starting to be convinced that cam was no longer an elite qb and no longer had elite potential. I thought the nfl just figured him out and that his confidence was shot. I even started kaepernick over him the week he exploded for 40+.

I'm not benching him again the season.

I haven't benched him at all this year... and now my team in my main league is poised to make a big playoff run. He's paying off when I wanted him to pay off - the playoffs. Better now than never and he certainly couldn't have chosen a better time to step it up.

I'm lucky enough to have both Brees and Cam on my roster. Seriously considering starting Cam this week because Brees has been so... ORDINARY... lately.

I think it is worth pointing out that Cam's two big weeks recently came against Philly and KC, two of the league's bottom feeders. That week 16 game vs Oakland looks nice, but with Atlanta and San Diego (whose defense is still playing well) up next, we'll see if Cam really has turned the corner or if his upsurge was because of who he was playing.

A lot depends on your scoring system, of course.

He's got the #1 PPG average weeks 9 through 13 in my 3-pt passing TD league by a healthy margin.

His numbers are helped by his three rushing touchdowns in those games, but it's not like Cam Rushing TDs are unusual...

I don't have much of a choice to bench him (Kap!!!), but there's only a couple QBs in the NFL I'd consider benching Cam for the next few weeks in 3 pt or 4 pt passing touchdown leagues. 6 pt Passing TD leagues, that's a different story.

I'm in a 6 point TD passing league, but when you factor in his rushing yards he's still whooping them the last few weeks...What I like is he doesn't have to throw for 350 to have a huge game.

His best all around game (prior to those two you mentioned), was in the Georgia Dome vs. the same Falcons he'll see at home Sunday.Lest we forget; Cam and the Panthers had them reeling, and definitely on their way to their first loss ... until he fumbled away the game on a third down keeper that would've iced it for Carolina. More worried about LaFell in a walking boot than I am about the Atlanta matchup.

Don't worry about Lafell. Louis Murphy will step in and he's a better receiver anyway and has much better big play ability. B/w smith, Murphy, Olsen, deangelo, and cam that offense can still hum unless the play calling goes to ##### again or cam has one of his meltdowns.

Me too. Brees has been "ordinary" for Brees. I think Cam has outscored him 3 weeks in a row, in my league (4pt).

I have him and Peyton,I picked wrong early with cam over manning, and the last few week manning was starting with cam blowing up, Luckily i have survied .going forward im not sure, Bye this week if cam does it again vs ATL Im going to have some tough choices week 15 and 16

Nobody cares, but I have to choose between Ryan and Cam in their upcoming game. I'm not set on Cam right now. He's completing less than 20 passes a game. If he doesn't hit the big pass-- and against an aggressive Atlanta D, that's no gimme-- he could really struggle.

Ryan is usually closer to 25 completions, and that gives him more chances to do something when they have the ball.

So no...for me, Cam is not must start right now. But nobody has higher upside. If you find yourself in a big hole after Thursday's game, you might want to go with the guy with the big upside over someone safer. Likewise, if things didn't work out great for your opponent in that game...maybe you play it safer.

Cam can also rush for 70 yards and 1-2 TD's, where Ryan will get nothing in the ground game. So I wouldn't make this decision on 5 completions... I have Eli (against the Saints) and Cam, and if I went straight on passing stats Eli is a no brainer. Throw in rushing and it gets a whole lot tougher...
