Camps opening...strains, sprains, and pains (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

Footballguy
Every year when camp opens we start getting reports that player A couldn't participate in afternoon practice and the SP likes to start moving guys up or down. My feeling is this, unless it's serious, and I mean soemthing significant like at least an MCL sprain, I would not give it much thought. Vets especially will do anything they can to get out of training camp.

My 2nd favorite reports will be when some guy we've never heard of makes a dazzling catch in camp and suddenly there is contoversy over the WR3 slot with a chance for him to overtake the team in catches...just stop.

Who is going to camp? I'll be checking in on the Phins in Davie early next week.

you know it happens every year.nothing we can do but learn to live with it man. (besides, its guys like these who convince others to jump certain players up & down their board and help the guys who dont panic to win)

@ Jaguars camp today. Notes: Drew catching 4 balls, Sims-Walker was not practicing and Osgood cannot catch a cold...seriously stone hands, unsure about how to position his hands for slants and short low thrown out routes...looked confused. Jennings looks somewhat powerful. Garrard throwing a lot of short passes. Its a scorcher out here today... 7pm practice tonight...Tampa Bucs next week and maybe Miami after.

Chaz just cannot stay on the field. Guy gets hurt all the time it seems.

Bengals camp right now. Odom just iced his ankle but still jogged on it. Didn't see him go down or anything. TO and Chad both looking quick and catching most of their balls this morning. Joseph was down for a few with cramps but went back to practicing after working with the trainer for about 5 min.

FYI - from rotoworld on Schilens

Updating a previous item, Chaz Schilens was not injured on the training camp practice field Friday.

Coach Tom Cable did concede that Schilens will be on a rep count in camp as he continues to recover from his second foot surgery in as many offseasons. Schilens has been injury prone dating back to San Diego State.

Sounds like Hardesty twisted his knee and will be out a couple weeks....
Browns top rookie Hardesty to miss 'a couple weeks' after twisting knee during pre-camp drillBy RUSTY MILLER , Associated Press BEREA, Ohio - Cleveland Browns second-round draft pick Montario Hardesty will miss "a couple weeks" after twisting a knee during a pre-camp drill.Hardesty, expected to vie with Jerome Harrison to be the starting running back, was injured Thursday but surgery was not required, coach Eric Mangini said Saturday after the Browns' first practice of training camp."He twisted his knee in drills the other day, so you probably won't see him for a couple weeks," the second-year coach said. "We're taking it real slow, conservative. We'll see where it is at that point (after rehabbing it)."The 59th player taken in the draft, Hardesty signed a four-year deal this summer and was one of the team's bright spots during early workouts.Hardesty had knee and ankle problems while at Tennessee, but Mangini said the latest setback was not related to previous injuries.Harrison, in his sixth year, had three consecutive 100-yard rushing games as the Browns won their last four games to finish 5-11 season last year.Mangini was asked who would have gotten the first snap at running back Saturday had Hardesty been around."I think the best way to look at this is there's not really a depth chart; it's a rep chart," he said. "Jerome would have taken some of the snaps and Montario would have taken some of the snaps."The only other notable absentee as the Browns went through their paces before a few thousand orange-clad fans was offensive lineman Tony Pashos, who was fighting a cold. The veteran was signed as a free agent. The team's first-round draft pick, cornerback Joe Haden, remains unsigned.

Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin left the field Saturday on a cart after suffering an unknown injury during the Vikings' morning practice according to Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Harvin, the NFL's offensive rookie of the year last season, suffered a shoulder injury in 2009 but did not miss a game because of that problem. Harvin did miss several practices and one game because of migraine headaches.

Apparently nobody saw Harvin suffer an obvious injury. Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said in his post-practice news conference that he didn't even know Harvin had left on a cart until told by a member of the media relations staff.

Another report with more description:

Minneapolis Star-Tribune - [Full Article] Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin left the field Saturday on a cart after suffering an unknown injury during the Vikings' morning practice.

Harvin, the NFL's offensive rookie of the year last season, suffered a shoulder injury in 2009 but did not miss a game because of that problem. Harvin did miss several practices and one game because of migraine headaches.

The odd thing about what happened to Harvin on Saturday is no one saw him suffer an obvious injury. He did make what was perhaps the catch of the day in 7-on-7 drills when he bobbled a pass from Tarvaris Jackson but managed to catch the ball despite tight coverage from cornerback Asher Allen. Harvin's helmet popped off on the play as he made the catch, fell to the ground and then got up and tried to run.

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said in his post-practice news conference that he didn't even know Harvin had left on a cart until told by a member of the media relations staff. Coach Brad Childress was not scheduled to speak to reporters after the practice.

DeSean Jackson carted off Eagles practice field

Posted by Evan Silva on July 31, 2010 4:07 PM ET

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was injured on the training camp practice field Saturday afternoon, and had to be taken away on a cart. Though the extent of the injury is unknown, McLane's tweets indicate that Jackson may have injured his back.

After being examined by trainers on the ground, Jackson was able to get to his feet and limp "gingerly" to the cart.

Little else is known about the injury at this time. We'll keep you updated.

Fred Davis looking very good in both days of Redskin camp so far. Link

TE Fred Davis » His athleticism was on display again this morning. On one route, the linebacker and corner could not get to their depth quick enough before he got to the outside for an open catch. Another time, he made a nice catch at his knees and immediately bounced up and ran. Very fluid. Can’t imagine many tight ends could have made such a play.

Coach Gary Kubiak said that Owen Daniels had a setback in his rehab from ACL surgery.

We're not sure about the exact nature of the setback or when it occurred, but this could explain why Daniels' recovery is taking longer than expected. He tore his ACL in Week 8 and doesn't appear close to the field right now. Wes Welker tore his in Week 17 and he's already practicing. You shouldn't be counting on Daniels as your starting fantasy tight end.

Knowshon Moreno carted off field

By Mike Klis

Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno was just carted off the field with what appears to be an injury to his right knee or ankle. After reaching the team’s headquarter doors, Moreno had to be assisted off the cart by members of the Broncos’ training staff.

Moreno is the Broncos’ starting tailback who gained 947 yards, on 3.8 yards per carry, last season. He was the Broncos’ No. 12 overall draft pick last season.

Moreno’s injury came as the Broncos were lining for offense vs. defense contact drill.

per Mike Cranston, AP Sports Writer covering the Carolina Panthers:

Coach John Fox says X-rays on RB Mike Goodson's left ankle were negative

From Geoff Mosher, Eagles beat writer @ approx 9:10 am:

'Jeremy Maclin just left on a cart with an apparent leg injury. Stay tuned.'

Moments later:

'No injury apparenty for Maclin. He's jogging back onto the field. Bathroom break?'

the day & age of twitter is very frustrating. Almost better not to pay attention because so much is over reaction to minor things...

A.J. Edds, Miami's 4th round pick at LB, suspects he has a torn ACL in practice, pet Twitter reports (Jeff Darlington).

Per Jamison Hensley, Ravens beat writer for Baltimore Sun

'WR Derrick Mason helped off the field after hit by Landry. He couldn't put any weight on his right leg.'

'Mason told reporters as he walked to locker room: "I just twisted it." He didn't specify if it was his knee or ankle.'

Marques Colston's offseason arthroscopic surgery was to his right knee, not the same one that was repaired with a microfracture procedure the previous year.

It's an important distinction, as Colston had already undergone two procedures to the left knee. He came off the active/PUP list as expected Tuesday and participated in a full practice. Though Colston feels 100 percent physically, the Saints are expected to ease him back in slowly over the next couple of weeks. He remains a Top-15 fantasy option.

Rotoworld) Justin Harrell had to leave Monday's practice early for unspecified reasons. Analysis: A teammate said Harrell told them he was suffering from fatigue and heat-related symptoms. He still wasn't in the locker room an hour after practice and later one of the team's equipment attendants gathered Harrell's clothes from his locker and left. Some sort of ailment wouldn't be new for Harrell, who has been injury-prone since entering the league. He's in a fight to win a roster spot, so this comes at a bad time for him.

I disagree you have to trust the source. I pay attention to real reporters(and FBG's) and that's about all.

Per Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants' beat writer at the NY Daily News:

WR Hakeem Nicks was on the ground at the end of practice. It was not immediately clear what happened or what he hurt.

I'm told he was holding his knee and that he rode cart from the practice field to the locker room, but that he was able to stand on it.

Per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post:

WR Hakeem Nicks hyperextended right knee, will have MRI tonight says the Giants. Figures to miss time but probably not too seerious.

WR Malcolm Kelly of the Redskins is still sidelined with a hamstring injury, with no estimated date of when he'll be ready.

Not huge FF news but:

Minnesota Vikings RB Darius Reynaud (foot) was carted off the field during practice Wednesday, Aug. 4, after suffering an apparent left foot injury, reports Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Our View: Reynaud has switched from WR to RB with hopes of giving the Vikings more depth at the position. With him out of practice it opens things up for a guy like Albert Young to get more reps.

Dolphins' Kory Sheets suffers torn Achilles tendon

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 4, 2010 1:03 PM ET

Dolphins running back and kick returner Kory Sheets went down in practice today with an injury being reported as a torn Achilles tendon.

Sheets was down for several minutes after falling during a kickoff return drill, and he needed the assistance of two trainers to get to the sideline.

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano confirmed after practice that Sheets had suffered an Achilles tendon injury, and although Sparano didn't confirm the severity of the injury, the Miami Herald is reporting that it is a tear, which likely puts Sheets out for the entire 2010 season.

Sheets had been competing with rookie Nolan Carroll for the No. 1 kickoff returner job.
