Attention Sharks who had us drafting Quinn #1 and compared the Bills to the first year Bucs....

4 rookie starters on D today......

McGahee hitting holes with a burst....

Special Teams still special......

Now, i know it's only 2 games, but I resigned myself to the fact that our first "good" game would be against the Jets at home. The Bills will never get love from the media. Last week, it was "the Pats didn't play well" This week "the Dolphins didn't play well"

How about a little credit to Marv's draft (&*^% you Kiper) and Jauron's conservative play calling allowing Losman a taste of success.

Now, Jauron's play calling is going to kill Evans and Price, but Lee was targeted 7 times today, and would have had a 50 yarder for a TD, but got tackled by Allen for PI.

Props to my Bills and the 49ers for playing way above the expectations of this board after 2 weeks.

Congratulations on your victory today!I haven't taken any shots at the Bills (and I have McGahee on one of my teams). One note of caution: Wait until you start playing teams outside of the AFC East before getting too excited.

Trust me, I'm a realist, but the fact that we're 1-1 against the 2 "favorites" in our division and doing it on the road.

The loss to the Pats was all mental, everyone knew they would come back. they did the same thing to us last year in Foxboro.

I can't tell you how excited I am about the play of Whitner, Ko Simpson, Ellison, and Kyle Williams (a steal in the 5th IMO.)

If we can re sign Nate, we have our Defensive backfiel in check for the next 5 years.

And I can't believe how I almost have no stress when Lindell comes in now. I think it took him time to get used to being outdoors all the time. Do I dare thank Tom Danahoe for Lindell and Ryan Denney?

To me the most important part of their win was the play of their offensive line. They did a great job opening holes for Willis. I'm not convinced he ran any better or worse than last year, there was just room for him to run.

My biggest critique following the draft was that they didn't get high ranked O-line help and without it I was sure their weapons would struggle to do anything.

I guess Marv thought they could get by with what they have if they coached them a little better and had better playcalling.

Today he was right.

H#ell Yeah

Had a chance to catch a glimpse of both games ... and (even though I'm not a Bills fan) I would have to say that the "reach" for Donte Whitner at the end of April look less and less like a reach to me...

Can either of you guys talk more about McGahee? I'm curious about how many chances he's getting in the red zone and what you think is a realistic TD total for the season. Thanks.

That's the only thing bothering me. We didn't have too many red zone opportunities today. He is staying in a lot more on 3rd and red zone this year. His blocking looked great today. On one play, he blocked 2 Dolphins to give JP time to throw. There isn't the hesitation behind the line this year. They were trying to get him his 100 yards today in the 4th, but the 'fins knew this and had 8 guys in the box.I said before the season, I like Willis for 1400 and 10 TD with about 40 catches. They haven't thrown to him as much, but they haven't thrown much at all. I believe today was almost 70% run. And A Train looks like the A Train from 2002. Offense doesn't seem to miss a beat with him relieving Willis.I still think McGahee will get about 10. The yards today (3.6) were a little deceiving becasue of the 4th quarter. But when it really counted, he was up about 5.3.And any O Line looks better than last years.

I don't have high hopes for Willis. I expect the coaching staff will stick to a game plan similar to today's. Limit mistakes, play conservatively, take 3 when you can get it and win with special teams and defense.

Great, guy, really... Now 'bout getting Lee Evans ####### involved in your offense! ;)
LOL, if we keep winning, I hope he continues to not get the ball. Everyone assumed that we would be playing from behind all year, and we would have to chuck it all game to get back in, it still will happen, just not yet.Quite a bit 3 and 4 WR sets today, with Reed and Parrish getting singled up on safgties and LB's. They seemed to be rolling saftey coverage towards Lee, except for the 3 where he broke loose. 1, he didn't turn around for a sure TD, and the other, got mugged by Will Allen becasue Will got smoked!!!

After next week, one of Jets/Bills will be 2-1. I doubt either team gets much respect though until they beat up on a more respected team.

Haven't earned respect yet, but who the heck would have thought one of those 2 teams would be 2-1. I like being under the radar. (eerily similiar to the 02 Bears....Jauron, A Train.....)Why did the Rams ever get rid of Bobby April? And if Brian Moorman isn't the best punter in the league, I'd be very suprised.

[Haven't earned respect yet, but who the heck would have thought one of those 2 teams would be 2-1.
When you say that, you're basically saying that most people expected both the Bills and Jets to start 0-2. Considering the Jets were at Tennessee last week, you're right about very little respect. Is it just me, or does the NFL seem to schedule the first few weeks so that weaker teams play each other and stronger teams play each other? Perhaps it's to get a kickstart to the season with top teams squaring off, but the side effect is to keep the standings interesting early in the season.

So you'e saying that the Bills vs. Pats in Foxboro and Bills vs. Dolphins in Miami was 2 weaker match ups? I'd say most "experts" had the Fish and Pats both getting 10 wins. 1-1 on the road against two playoff teams is cause for a parade lately in Buffalo.

No need to be constantly defending your Bills. It's a general statement on the NFL scheduling. And it's not just this year but for several years. For all I know, it's not even true, but it was not an attack on Buffalo.

WAsn't taking it as an attack, thought youwere implying it was an easy start....anywho, they should have titled this week as the rivalry week. Skins-Cowboys, Bear-Packers, Jets-Pats, Bills-Fins, Bengals-Browns, Eagles-Giants.....And as a Buffalo fan, we have become a little defensive over the years.....

Saw the game last week and I thought the Bills could have won and should have won. I haven't seen spots that bad since, well since the last time Notre Dame played.

more respected?Patriots were heavy favorites to win the AFC Championship at the books in Vegas last week (odds were 5/2 for them, which I thought was ridiculous). There were also plenty of people out there who picked the Dolphins to be legit Super Bowl contenders this year. The Bills came very very close to beating both of those teams on the road to start off the season.I don't think the Bills are legit playoff contenders this year, but it is obvious that they are better than a lot of people expected them to be. Love what I'm seeing from the young guys on defense. The pass rush has been fierce, and McGahee looks like a completely different player from the end of last season.Very glad they got rid of Mularkey right now (even if he made the decision himself, just glad he's gone) and really liking the coordinator hires they made this year. Also looks like Marv Levy wasn't as crazy as the draft experts thought b/c the rookies are contributing right away. Hope they can keep things rolling.

I think more people left today thinking they had overrated the Dolphins rather than thinking they had underrated the Bills, that's all.

probably true.Pats and Dolphins aren't as good as people expected them to be, and Bills/Jets aren't as bad as people expected them to be. Division should be more competitive than a lot of people predicted.Next week's game will be interesting. Bills start out as 5.5 point favorites in their home opener. Schedule doesn't get much easier afterwards with Vikings at home and then road trips to Detroit, Chicago, and then Patriots back at home. Will probably be tough to come out of that stretch and hit the bye week with a record better than 3-4.Then, they get Packers at home, before going on the road to play Indy and Houston. If they go 2-1 there, the team has a chance to be 5-5 after 10 games. Two tough home games against Jaguars and Chargers could leave them at 6-6. Then, games @ NYJ, vs MIA, vs TEN are all winnable. Say they win 2 of those and are 8-7 entering the season finale @ Baltimore. Team has a shot at a 9 win season if things go about as well as expected, but will probably finish 7-9 or 8-8.I'd be fine with that given a lot of the young players on this team right now and the low expectations I had for this season.

:goodposting: And it was good to see Mularkey revert to hi great play calling. Ronnie Brown killing the Bills right before half, then calls for a pass play after Ronnie torches the D for 3 straight runs of 7+.Interception Crowell.

I'm a phin fan and I was EXTREMELY impressed with the Bills today.

The combination of them playing way better than I expected and C-Pepp chundering beyond anything I would have expected created a low scoring blow out. Even though the Dolphin D played pretty well, it was never in doubt that the Bills were in complete control of the game.

Congrats on the win.

Hopefully it won't be snowing when the teams square off again in December - possibly for the winner receiving a wild card berth (or a shot at the division).

AR> I sure hope you don't have the Bills sweeping the Jets this year. :boxing:
didn't count on it, but it should happen. pennington will probably be hurt by the time they play each other in New Jersey, right?
Well I figure a split is the most likely scenario here, but the Jets are more likely to sweep than the Bills. Jets also will end up with a better record.
Did I step in a time machine back to 2004?

They do, in fact, do this. There was a NFL films segment on Rozelle, I think, that mentioned he started a tradition of having the lesser teams playing each other early. This gives some premier matchups early to start things off sizzling, and it keeps more teams in the hunt, keeping interest up.

I was impressed with the Bills in the Pats game, and equally impressed in the MIami game. I should qualify that. I was impressed with segments of the Bills. The fromt 4 is savage. Very active, vary strong, and vary effective. Even w/ Takeo missing this week, the linebackers still played well, and with the strength of the front 7, getting pressure on the QB's early and often, the defensive backfield doesn't have to cover for 4 seconds. They don't have to be great, just good. Defensively, they're very good. The only issue I see possibly cropping up is if the offensive simply can't hold the ball, tiring the defense. They are reminiscent of the Defense 2 years ago when they were one of the best units in the league under the hand of Ted Cottrell.

Offensively, they have problems. They did open some holes, but Losman has got to pass more. They simply have to, or those 8 man fronts appear earlier. I reflect back to A TD drive in the Pats game. They found something int he Pats D they exploited for a drive, and A train got the TD, but that was it. The Pats shut them down in the 2nd half, both passing and running. When the Pats brought a rush, they just couldn't hold them. When the Bills needed a push on the pivotal play of the game, they couldn't get it.

I think the talk of 7-8 wins is accurate, based on what I've seen. If they open up the O a little more, 9 isn't out of the question. Losman can throw the ball. They've just got to give him the chance. One thing I didn't like was a lot of slow developing pass plays. At least in the Pats game. This week, they were better, but a 4.6 YPPA, on 11/18 in the NFL just isn't going to cut it. To be fair, this is a new system, and I do expect them to improve.

I will say, I underestimated Jauron. He's done a better job with this team than I ever expected. I thought 4 wins would be a successful season. On the draft, nobody questioned the players, just where they took them. They could have moved down, and got picks in addition. I still agree with the assessment. Maybe they tried, and there were no takers.

Ronnie Brown is still a stud. Thanks for taking Bennie Anderson.

i was watching the game, and my roommate was getting all upset after the Phins starting rolling on that drive. i told him "Dont worry, Culpepper will mess it up somehow." what do ya know, Crowell picks it. almost called a McGee pick, if he coulda held onto it.

It's typical Mularkey. He under utilized Bettis, he underutilized McGahee, and now he's doing it to Ronnie Brown. The Bills knewe the run was coming, and we couldn't stop it. But up[ to that point, the D had already sacked Culpepper 6 times had had him running all day. Why wouldn't you continue to pound it with Ronnie?

Jerry Gray was the Bills defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2005. Ted Cottrell was last there in the year 2000, but they dumped him when they hired Gregg Williams to be the head coach. Williams brought Gray over from Tennessee with him.

He looked good in the clips I saw. I'm seriously considering trading Gates for him in one 12 team league (I also have Watson behind Gates).

Do it. If McGahee is any significant upgrade over your #2 RB, I'd do it. To me, Gates won't put up significantly bigger numbers over Watson. Who is your #2 RB?
