Can Kirk Cousing be the 49ers franchise QB under Kyle Shannahan (1 Viewer)

I kinda have my doubts. Think his situation in D.C. is better right now. Don't get me wrong, he's a helluva lot better that what we have now. I'd rather see them draft DeShawn Watson at #2 than trade for Cousins. Just my personal opinion. If Cousins gets traded to the 9ers he better start a 2nd business: Porta-Potty owner cause that's where his career will end up should he decide to join Shanny in the Bay & this comes from a lifelong 49ers fan. I wanna win desperately too, just don't think we can do it long term with Cousins. Maybe Shanny if he works hard at it & keeps his dad away, lol.

The way the team looks right now it would certainly be a step down in terms of weapons but keep in mind SF is ~$98mil of cap space. With that much money they could afford to pay Cousins, add 2 young WR's(Jeffrey/Pryor/Stills/Kendall Wright/Robert Woods/Kamar Aiken) that are 27yo or younger, and add a couple of OLmen. McDonald is a pretty good TE but even if they gave up picks to get Cousins there are a lot of interesting TE's in this draft. It's difficult to guess what this SF team will look like right now when the season kicks off. The rumors are Shanny isn't looking for a long, slow rebuild like the one going on in CLE(they are the only team with more cap space).

It's true that San Fran has the cap room to make a HUGE splash in Free Agency.  For instance, they can bring Cousins in and also have been rumored to look at Garcon.

Part of me wonders though if the calculation should be different on San Fran's side vs. Washington's side.  Washington is a team that is on the cusp of playoffs and most thought they were only an average defense away from being a "regular playoff team."  At least that's what folks said last year.

San Fran meanwhile is more of a "build from the ground up" situation.  Kyle and Lynch have 6 years to institute a long term plan.  My question is:  is the best way to start this rebuild is to go out and buy all the high priced free agents you can?  Or should it be more of a measured, let's get great young talent and build this thing.

Spending lots of $$ on the hot QB makes absolute sense in, say Houston or Denver.  Does it make sense in San Francisco?  Not sure.  I'm a Redskins homer and can tell you that KC is really good going through his reads and running an offense in this way.  In that respect, he's a good fit with Kyle.  On the other hand, he often struggled when his "stars" like Reed or Jackson were injured, and he failed to "create plays" when the original play design failed around him.  So he's good in some respects, but he might be challenged in just exactly the kind of situation he's likely to face in San Fran the first year or two.  Of course he could "weather that" if coach sticks by him.

I think he'd be a "fit" but would feel more confident for him if he were going to Houston or Denver and not a team on the absolute rebuild...
