Can Kitna be a top 3 QB? (1 Viewer)

Supposedly Oakland has one of the best pass defenses in the NFL (not so sure about that), but even if they don't, he looked sharp today.

He moved the ball well, he had WRs open all over the place, and that OLine looked good. Not just better then average, they looked good.

He was only sacked once, and although he had two picks, only 1 was within his control. The other was courtesy of Roy Williams slapping the ball into the air...

I think Kitna will be close to or in the top 3 QBs this year if he can stay healthy. And since that OLine looks nice, I see him staying healthy. 4000 yds and 30 TDs are possible... (along with 20 INTs...)

Edit:

Not to mention the fact that their defense is going to give up a lot of points so they'll never end up in that "run out the clock for the last 8 minutes" mode. Lots of shootouts baby.

He was definitely more comfortable than he looked at just about any time last year, and against a D that usually doesnt let QBs get comfortable. The addition of Shaun McDonald also seems to be big - he's like an embodiment of the intelligence of Martz's scheme - he finds the soft spots and Kitna finds him.

All of my leagues have 6pt passing TDs. I have Kitna in 6 of 8 leagues. Targeted him for the 7th round, but he went earlier in a few of them. I'm banking to 30TDs for him this year....

He could be but I'm not ready to anoint him just yet. I think Palmer and Manning have a strangle hold on the top 2 so it will be tough.

One thing is for sure after watching that game-Calvin Johnson is the real deal and Kitna has the weapons and OC to be a top 3 QB.

He's good for TD leagues that don't penalize for INT's. I don't know about top 3 though, maybe more like top 6-8 or so.

He'll be chucking 'em up all year long... and with his receiver corps, he has a lot of good options to bring 'em down. He'll definitely have his share of them come down in the wrong hand though. I don't see the Lions winning all the games they think they will, but they have a better looking overall offense than last season anyway.

They are going to lose a lot of games, but they are going to score a lot of points in the process...

Kitna looked good but I'll tell you what.........twice during that game I saw him running around looking to get extra yards and not taking the appropriate slide.

He took 1 shot in the back that I thought was going to send him out of the game. He MUST do a better job of sliding and protecting himself. I understand he's trying to make plays and all of that stuff but if I were the Lion coaching staff, I'd be telling him we don't need that, we need you on the field.

Yeah, but it's still better then last year when he was hit on every single play.

Didn't see the game but Rotoworld is of the opinion that the picks were not 100% his fault:

Kitna's picks were 1) simply an athletic play by Kirk Morrison in the end zone and 2) the result of a Roy Williams drop, nothing he should be ashamed about. Interceptions happen when you throw as much as the Lions do

I liked the Lions game plan vs. Oakland. They did some rollout, moving out of the pocket early in the game to try and neutralize the pass rush.

Then they threw in some quick hitters so that the Oakland D didn't get to him.

He will have some monster games, and be near 270-300 yards most days. Like most said, he is not as great in leagues with -2 for INT's (like mine). He will chuck a bunch of INT's.

I have he and Eli as my 2 QB's and before this evening, I was nervous about that. Now, I feel QB might be a solid position for me...oh and no penalties for INT's in my league

Roy had a couple of near misses and one drop but he did not seem to be a high priority in progression for Kitna, as a Roy owner I am a little nervous that there may be too many weapons.

Kitna looked great vs the #1 pass defense of 2006.
