Can somebody explain the MLB Blackout policy to me? (1 Viewer)

The MLB Blackout policy makes zero sense to me. As much as people whine and complain about the NFL Blackout policy at least that makes sense. With the NFL, people within a somewhat reasonable distance (75 miles) of the game are blacked out if the game is not sold out and there is only one game a week. I know people have gripes with it, bt at least it makes sense.

As the name indicates, I'm in Jacksonville Florida about 5 hours away from either the Rays or Marlins. Last Wednesday, the Red Sox were at Tampa on ESPN. But for me, it's blacked out (on Directv) on both ESPN and FSN/Sunshine. I have no local stations with Rays feeds. So because the Rays claim my area, I'm blacked out. If I lived an hour north in Braves territory, I'd see the game. Think about that - the league blacks out people in the team's fringe territory. Oh, by the way, the game was also a sellout.

Example number 1,874 that MLB hates its fans:

Nobody can see SD/SF today. Almost everyone is getting NYY/BOS on Fox.

Thanks guys.
