I went with really good because there wasn't a great option. Not the best ever, and it's hard for me to say even best of the era considering competition, but he was a great drummer.
Best. really good, fine ... what's the difference? It's like being the best long snapper of an era.
I know that if a woman hangs around a rock band they call her a groupie. But what do you call a guy that hangs around a rock band?
Some other oldies:
How do you get the drummer off your porch? Pay him for the pizza.
How do you know the drum riser is level? The drool drips out both sides of the drummer's mouth evenly.
How do you know it's a drummer at your door? The knocking speeds up, then slows down, then speeds up....
What's the difference between a large pizza and a drummer? The pizza can feed a family of 4.
Best of his era is hard to say since Bonham is also from that era (Peart came a bit later and is arguably from a later era), but in the annals of best rock drummers ever, you cannot have the conversation without Keith Moon being a part of it.
