Car broken Into (1 Viewer)

The General

Footballguy
I came back this afternoon to find my car was broken into. I think I may have left it unlocked by accident. No damage. They took some change and went through the glove box and center console area.

Didn't take an old iPod that I have in the glove box, didn't pop the trunk and take my golf clubs, didn't take my garage door opener. Dodged major bullets on the last two items.

Should I have called the police? Should I still?

How's the driver seat?
As far as I can tell there is nothing different.
Sounds like you dodged a bullet.
For sure. Don't think I need to call the cops here, wife says otherwise.

Think I will just tell her I did.
I called the local station and let them know. They noted it and said they'd bump up patrols in the area. Just took a minute, didn't want to go in and fill out a report.

Always a good idea to call the police, in my opinion. If you live it a neighborhood it at least alerts them. If other reports start coming in, they might increase patrols and catch someone before they get something substantial from someone.

This goes against my lazy nature but you are right.

Normally I'd say call the cops. This time, I wouldn't. You left the doors unlocked and lost less than 5 bucks. I'd chalk it up to a cheap lesson learned.

That's what I was thinking. As pointed out doesn't hurt to report it. I called up while watching the game and they directed me to a website. I'll fill it out tomorrow...probably.

The 4th question asked if any drugs or illegal weapons were taken from the car.

See, F that. They care so little, they won't even do the paperwork.
Not exactly, there was 3 options: Get a call back then we fill out over phone, Have a cop come to my place, or do the online thing.

They make it pretty clear nothing will happen except stats being taken. My neighborhood is adjacent to some really nice areas and some fairly sketchy ones so who knows what this does to that.

Couple weeks ago went out to go to work and door was slightly ajar. Someone got in and went through my console but nothing was taken. Had an old house key in the console and that was in the ignition. Had about $3 in change and a 7-8 year old gps in the console and neither were taken. I thought I locked my doors but must not have.

Called it in and they said they would send someone out to write a report but since nothing was taken it was up to me. I decided not to worry about it but did inform my neighbors.

Rent an apt in a slightly questionable area but not terrible. Just bought a house and so will be moving in The next couple weeks.

It's good to notify the police and I am glad you did. You could potentially save someone from having their car broken into by having more police involvement. Probably not, but you never know. Good on you.
