Carolina WLB? (1 Viewer)

I would hope they would see what Anderson could do. But it's a veteran team, I wonder if Fox would risk his skin on an unproven guy.

I thought Diggs was an UFA . Just discovered, the Panthers signed Diggs to a three-year extension back in late December.

I was surprised Denver hadn't shown any interest. :goodposting:

Anyway ... gosh, you would think its Diggs job to lose. You would think Anderson will get every opportunity to win the job in camp and pre-season.

It's just way too early.

Panthers | Team agrees to terms with L. Johnson

Fri, 7 Mar 2008 07:47:01 -0800

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms with free-agent LB Landon Johnson on a three-year contract worth $10 million

Does this mean Landon is the WLB now?

He should be the starting WLB I would think. LB group just got even more athletic that it was with this signing. The SLB in this system has always been the better producer over the WLB, not sure why but I believe historically it has been the case.

Beason, Davis and Johnson could all play in the nickel and dime so this is where it gets dicey. Perhaps one will become more of a rusher so that they can keep all three on the field at all times.

Agreed. I posted last night that Davis could finally become the Joker roving pass rusher that had been envisioned. With Jenkins gone, Damione Lewis is really the only inside pass rusher left on the roster unless they fell one of the two young ends can fit that bill. Somebody has to sit in that front seven, though, and although Johnson is a very solid cover backer, he's more likely than Davis or Beason.I wouldn't say that the SLB has historically been better than the SLB. Will Witherspoon made his name there with and without Morgan in the lineup. Fields and Davis were/are better talents and more likely to stay on the field than their WLB counterparts.

Landon has experience on the strong-side. I've been waiting years and years, but just maybe TD could finally get a weakside gig.

His experience was by necessity only, though. Slotting those two that way would be even more  than the Mitchell/Crowell business. If I quit Thomas Davis cold turkey two offseasons ago, WD; there's still hope for you. :P

I've got the TD shakes. :toilet:

I'm guilty, still :banned: TD koolaid. But ...once he moved from DB to LB, I was figuring on it being 3-4 year project. I hope WD is on to something. I sure would like to see TD lineup at will
