Catholic Churches Burning In Canada In 'Suspicious' Fires (1 Viewer)

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57325653

In May, Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc Chief Rosanne Casimir announced that the remains of 215 children had been found near the city of Kamloops in southern British Columbia (BC) as part of a preliminary investigation.
In June, the Cowessess First Nation in Saskatchewan announced it had found an estimated 751 unmarked graves after a similar investigation - the largest such discovery to date. The remains were found near the former Marieval Indian Residential School, which operated from 1899 to the 1990s and under the control of the Roman Catholic Church for much of that time.
And in mid-July, the Penelakut Tribe in British Columbia said it had identified some 160 "undocumented and unmarked graves" on their grounds and foreshore near the former site of the Kuper Island Industrial School.

So strange to try to make this a political blame game.   These abuses started in the mid-1800's as part of an effort to assimilate indigenous people.   They peaked in the 1930s, but continued on through the late 20th century.  This was a wholly misguided and dehumanizing strategy, with massive failures at the federal and provincial levels.   Add to that the abuses by the teachers and administrators at these residential schools and the utter failure of the Catholic church to do anything to stop them.

Yeah, as they uncover mass graves full of children people are angry at the government and the Catholic church.   No kidding.

Not to mention the Church has and continues to resist any responsibility for this.

Trudeau needs to explain what his father allowed to happen.
I don't disagree with this.  I am no fan of Trudeau or his old man.  Not that it was just Pierre-Elliott Trudeau that was Prime Minister during the time when this tragedy was unfolding.  There needs to be a full investigation, and that investigation will need to span decades of abuse.  It is truly horrific.

Absolutely but in fairness to PET he did consider ending all of it which for the time was a step up

He should have done more 100%.

And as you mentioned the bulk of the atrocities occurred before his time.

This should indicate to folks that most doing this are either hyper-partisan, trolls, grossly misinformed or a combination of the three.  More importantly, they shouldn’t be engaged.
