Chambers to slot? (1 Viewer)

I just read that MIA is thinking about moving Chambers to the slot position. What affect will this move have on Welker? Will MIA opt for Hagan rather than Welker?

Thinking it may be wise to unload Welker now while his value is high.

I hope this news is true; Mularkey needs to find ways to get Chambers the ball. I get tired of seeing the guy glued to the wide side of the field every damn play...

Not that I don't believe you but I would love to read the article. Link?

WR Chambers Alternating Positions?

Jeff Darlington, Miami Herald - [Full Article]

The Dolphins will attempt to find the remedy for the latest issues, and it actually be a familiar simple formula. It might be time for WR Chris Chambers, at least a few more times per game, to switch positions. Last season, after a similarly slow start to the season, a similar move provided a jump in production. "We put Chris in the slot last season," Saban said. "It's one of the things we started to do to move him around more. I think it's something that we need to do more of. I think it would help him get the ball more." Occasionally moving Chambers to the slot might be a fine way to start.

Dolphins: Chambers looking for jump start

The News

Struggling wide receiver Chris Chambers may be moved into the slot for some plays as the Dolphins attempt to jump start their offense. "We have put Chris in the slot [in the past]," head coach Nick Saban told the Miami Herald. "It's one of the things we started to do to move him around more. I think it's something that we need to do more of. I think it would help him get the ball more."

Our View

Chambers expressed frustration after week seven's loss to the Packers because he was reportedly promised more attention on deep balls, which didn't come to fruition despite the fact Joey Harrington threw a ridiculous 62 passes. Remarkably, Chambers grabbed just two of those, which illustrates just how absent he Is from the current offense. Chambers exploded in the second half of last year after a similar move to the slot, so getting him more involved all over the field would be a good thing.

So, if it was so effective last season, why are they just getting around to making this change now?

I think they had visions of Culpepper to Moss, so they moved Chamber out wide.

maybe in their offensive philosophy, with culpepper , they thought the deep pass/ long ball would be more in play, but realizing the O-line stinks and that quick reads, short passes have become more efficient at moving the ball and offsetting the pass rush, they have changed their thinking. since chambers was lined up outside and underutilized, they moved him into the slot to take advantage of his skills and new passing philosophies.

upgrade Chambers after the bye wk

:loco: That's why they have been so horrible. You HAVE to figure out how to get your best player the ball. They only had to look at their own success from last year for the answer. The article mentions Chambers in the slot a few times a game. I don't think Welker will be affected much at all. Maybe just more 4-wide sets. I could see Hagan out on that lonely island running deep routes...

Precisely. Chambers is good but I think this was all wishful thinking. That plus the fact that Culpepper is just a shadow of his former self.Miami's schedule the rest of the way isn't all that nice. @CHI, KC, MIN once they get back from their bye week. Their FFL schedule is a little more benign (NE, @BUF, NYJ). Slight upgrade for ChambersNot sure Welker will be all that affected by this change, as much as the fact that Booker is back? Who knows. Miami is just a friggin' mess.

Note the word occasionallyThe title of article could have been "Fins to move Chambers around to try and create more opportunities." BTW This is common for a team to do with their #1.

Re-affect on Welker. IMO His hustle would work from any spot, especially occasionally. Maybe he's no #1 for every play but in spots, sure. DB would have to hustle too for a change.

Chambers has been in the slot before, see Saban above, it didn't do much IMO. The only reason I don't say it's blowing smoke here is because of the effort to get him involved in the passing game more. THAT could pay off.

Thanks for the links guys. I appreciate you not making my lazy ### do any research. I promise to try and put a little effort in myself next time.

I'm sure he'll turn into an all-star #1 WR from here on out since I finally gave up on him this week.
3 seasons I've had him, 3 seasons I've traded him.04 & 05 he blew up right after I traded him. Just traded him a couple weeks ago. (looks at watch) Yup - its about time for him to start going off.

I haven't looked at PFR.Are you guys saying he always starts slow?
Without looking at the numbers, that's been my experience. I always feel like I'm wasting my time with him - trade him for something, and then watch him do well (albeit sometimes inconsistantly) for someone else.ETA - I may have had him in 03, 05 and 06...last year was his biggest year by far and I believe most of it came late...pretty sure 03 was the same but I'm having a heck of a time finding yearly game breakdowns.Just took a look and with no FF scores it seems that his HUGE games (some w/ 200+ receiving or 3TD's) are all in the 2nd half of the season, as well as the majority of his TD's. (8/11 in 05 & 4/7 in 03) - that may account for my perception that he is a 2nd half player.

So, did this slot position talk really affect Chambers last game?
