Championship Week 16 (Who's sitting out/reducing PT) (1 Viewer)

Tat

Has-been punter
My thoughts:

QB: Vick, Cutler (if 2nd half leads are big)

RB: Peterson, Foster (season is over)

WR: A Johnson (see Foster)

Anyone else afraid to start anyone this week based on possible reduction in PT?

if vick sits in the 4th qtr it's because they are already up big and Vick has a lot of points already. Plus, they need to stay ahead of the bears by 1 game in order to secure bye. Expect Vick to play the entire game.

I'm worried about Stewart. He's been nice but he's got no chance this week.

Is anyone worried about Falcons players?

Falcons aren't going to give up this game and count on winning week 17...I wouldn't think so at least. I'd expect them to play at full effort for 4 quarters at home.

Peterson I can see being less than effective, but he will probably play early along with Gerhart for appearance's sake (with more Gerhart late in the game if things get out of hand in Philly). I'm likely sitting AP for SMoss since I just don't see a lot of action. AP already has his 1000 yards, and the season is done. AP's 19 yards away from 1500 combined yds from scrimmage, so they'll get him that.

I think Andre will want to get to 100 catches for the season. He's at 86 right now so they will make sure he gets to that milestone to join Roddy White (106) and Reggie Wayne (99). He's a must start, not a bench play.

Foster is contending for the rushing title at 1345 yards, with MJD close behind at 1324, followed by Charles at 1303. He gets to run against the second worst run D (based on yards allowed) in the league this week at Denver (2218 vs. 2221 for the Bills). Unless his spastic glut (or ankle) is really, really bad, there's no way they'll get him to sit out. Foster is another must start.

Vick is vying for league MVP, so he's not going out unless he already has a huge scoring game on the books. His desire for MVP does raise concerns for LeSean McCoy, since he's trying to do everything by himself (albeit that it is currently working).

<--- Slightly disgruntled LeSean McCoy owner.

Opposite of your post, but I think Welker is a very good play this week, as he's at 83 catches for 829 yards. The Pats aren't traditionally into stats, but Wes has been over 100 catches and 1000 yards every year since 2007. Brady will do his best to get him the ball. Woodson messed things up this week in Green Bay, so the Buffalo and Miami games are his last chance to keep the streak alive. I'm speculating a season high 9-10 force-fed catches this week in Buffalo for Welker.

I think some teams might have a slightly quicker trigger finger with injuries (see Peterson, Orton), and there may be a couple rookies who get more touches so the brass can see what they have, but the notion that teams will just start pulling starters willy nilly in Week 16 has always struck me as ridiculously overblown. Unlike the Colts last year, no one's playoff position is set yet. And the teams who are already out of it are, in many cases, playing for the coach's job security.

I'm not saying there's no chance it will happen. But I'd be very surprised if guys like Andre Johnson were pulled this week just because the Texans are out of it.

Furthermore, Kubiak know his job is in big jeopardy. With the Texans awful defense there is little liklihood that he wants to "save" tread on AJ's and Foster's tires for 2011.

Generally teams do not sit their star players at the end of the season, just because they are out of the race.

Signed.....DeAngelo

Guys really do not sit out unless there is one of two underlying issues; the team's playoff position is set or the team wants to see what theyhave with a younger player...I would concur with the person who said AJ and Foster will not be sitting.

I'd think that would piss off the fans quite a bit if teams started sitting guys just because they're out of it. Fans pay good money to go see the names.

What about because they are franchise players with nagging injuries that they do not want to aggravate in a meaningless game?

If Foster sits when he has the rushing title on the line I'll eat my hat.

If Vick sits with a 2 seed and possible bye on the line I'll eat my other hat.
