It seems highly likely that Tiki will retire after the season, but what do you percentage do you peg the chance of him shocking the world and playing next season. As a Tiki owner, I'd like to see what the informed public is thinking. Especially since we've seen some public reversals of retirements in the past from player who seemed convinced about being ready for life after football.

EDIT: I just voted 5%. I figure 1 in 20 chance seems about right. Plus I incorrectly spelled Gauge... "Guage" in the topic description so I had to fix that. That's kinda embarrassing. :bag:

He seems to be of the mold of Robert Smith, a very intelligent man who knows what he wants to do after football. I'm pretty sure he's done, but one can't see what's in another person's heart. He seems to want to move on to something other than football, and that's probably going to be something media related. He's a natural in front of the camara, has the looks, smile, and unlike some of the current jocks on TV, he has the brains.

i think the only chance he stays if he doesn't have a good broadcasting offer. every time he has made a comment about even possibly retiring i have believed it may be to let potential new employers know he is available.

He seems to be one of the more intelligent guys in the NFL, if he was wavering at all i don't think he would have come out and said he was definitely retiring.

As the above poster said, unless he can't get a decent gig there is little chance he comes back. I'd guess the networks will all be bidding for his services. If Michael Irvin can get a solid job after football i can't see how Barber will have trouble.

When your brother is scoring more TDs than you are, and he plays on Defense, it is time to hang them up. :banned:

Seriously, I am taking him at his word. He seems like he knows what he wants...we forget how much abuse an RBs body takes during a game. Tiki commented about how he feels four days after a game. It sounds like he wants to get out while he is on top, and healthy. Can't blame a guy for that.

I think he is being very gaurded while he guages whether the gaurantees he gets are just a pile of gauno, or whether he should run the guantlet and perhaps end up in Gauntanamo.

hes one of a handful nfc foes i actually like, and i think he really is gone.

id like to seem him play for a few more years but i think he has gotten what he wants out of football and is smart enough to do what he wants when he has the opportunity

Here's a likely scenario: If Hillary runs for President and wins, a Senate seat opens up in NY. Tiki runs for the Senate -- as a Republican. If she doesn't win, he waits until 2012 to run against her.

I think there's a 50-50 shot he might not retire, if the Giants get real close to winning a Super Bowl. Similar to Bettis. Eli, Plaxico, Amani, etc. might be able to talk him into stayin' for one more year & winnin' the ring.

Bump.

With the fantasy football playoffs near and trade deadlines approaching (or passed), many out-of-contention Tiki owners might be willing to move him for very cheap (particularly in dynasty leagues).

Has anyone changed their tune in the past 3 weeks? Any chance Tiki changes his mind?

I agree with what others have said in that Tiki really doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would change his mind on the matter. But how sweet would it be to acquire Tiki for cheap in a dynasty league and hear him announce his un-retirement? That would be the ultimate burn. Worth a shot? I think so if the price is right. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the right price is.

I spoke to every friend I have who is a Giants fan. They all maintain that Tiki is going to retire, exactly for the reasons you stated above. I will tell you that the market value of Tiki in my keeper league was Jamal Lewis and Musa Smith. That was the best I value I could get three weeks ago. I would imagine that Tiki's value is far less than that in most leagues now (after the injury and fewer games left this year), unless an owner is really desperate to rent a player for 5-6 games. If trading for Barber, I certainly wouldn't build in any expectation that he will un-retire.

I sent my 1st round pick in 2007 (dynasty league) for Tiki Barbers services for the rest of the year.

If the Giants are close to winning a title this year but fall short I do think there is a remote chance that Tiki will give them another year to go for the championship again.

If you're in the hunt for a title it's a good move, if not, it's a bad move. Tiki will take the Robert Smith route. He's got a lot going for him outside of football.

Two of the league's top backs playing in the same stadium for years; Tiki is well aware of Curtis being unable to play. That's NOT helping to sway his opinion
