FS Charles Godfrey will serve as the team's nickel back when the Panthers bring in an extra defensive back. Godfrey played cornerback at Iowa.

I thought he was playing SS this year? And I'm assuming that he is also a 1st and 2nd down starting safety, not just a nickel DB as the notes above suggest? Sounds like he is in for a lot of work this year.

This doesn't make a lot of sense. He's the starter at SS, voted team captain and given a 5 year, 27.5 million contract extension yesterday. Now he's a nickel DB?

its same situation as antrel rolle..........the play their safety positions and when the defense goes to nickel Rolle/Godfrey drop down and cover the slot Wr/TE
