Cheating by the commish (1 Viewer)

I just caught our commish cheating. I noticed he did it two weeks ago, but today I have proof.

When the 1:00 games started, he had DJ Hackett starting. In the 4th quarter, I noticed he had Hacket (who only had 4 points) benched and Wes Welker starting (Sun night game). I have proof because I printed off the gamecenter after the 1:00 games started, showing his lineup.

What should the penalty be? Point deduction, game loss, or just insert Hackett back in?

Seriously. It is a tight race for total points and he is one game out of a playoff spot. What is a reasonable penalty?

There isn't much you can do. He's the commissioner and can technically do what he wants. If he wants to destroy his league with this behavior, then leave the league.

If he cheats once he'll cheat again. He should hand over everyone's money to a new commish right now and should forfeit the game this week. Better make sure he didn't give his opponent the heads up that he was planning on doing this swap before the game and just couldn't get to a computer in time.

i agree. if i was a owner in this league i would want the commissioner to post his line up on the league MB for the rest of the year. this is a flawed feature of CBS

i am assuming you use CBS. did you check the league transaction report? his line up change would show up there but he can delete that transaction.

Best thing to do here is contact him and let him know what you know. His only legit option is to fess up and make the necessary changes.

Then 1) find another commish next year and 2) appoint an alternate commish on all future leagues

This is when he gets pissed at getting caught cheating and goes on a tear beating everyone from here on out by 40 points a week just to prove he can win without cheating...be careful you might wake a sleeping lion :lmao:

Be carefull before you say anything. If you had the game center up before 1pm (call it 12:50) and he changed his linup at say 12:55 your gamecenter won't update unless you hit the refresh button.

So it would show DJ not Welker.

you should check the transaction report and see exactly when he made the switch. assuming he didn't delete it.

In most leagues, the lineup submission is time-stamped.

I think only your league can decide this. At a minimum - automatic zero for the week and I really liked the idea of him having to post his starters on the league message board for the remainder of the year. That to me would be worse than getting impeached as commish or being kicked out of the league. That would be humiliating. A weekly reminder that you need to be babysat because you aren't trustworthy.

This happens alot....check the transaction report. :lmao:

If he truly did cheat, and it sound's like he did, you need to find a new commish asap. The existing commish should be booted from the league and find someone else to run his team until the season is over. If his team happens to make the playoffs I'd eliminate his team and put in the next team in line.

Cheating by the commish is complete b.s. and it should be dealt with harshly. You'll be lucky if the league survives the season since there probably will be some people wanting their money back. Good luck!

If you can't trust the commish the league is worthless. I would ask for my money back. If he cheated today chances are he cheated before.

A 0 for the week at a minimum, and I would not trust him as commish anymore.
That pretty much means death of the league. Do you know this guy before? Is he generally trustworthy?

If both answers are yes, ask him about it in a non-threatening way.

If either answer is no, I'd email the league with the evidence, and see what happens.

He not only has to be removed from being commish, but also removed from the league entirely. Since he is the commish that could mean that league is finished. He definitely gets a zero for this week, but that is not enough IMO. Cheating like this is as bad as it gets. That said, as it was pointed out earlier, make sure you look at the transaction report and the time stamp of his move before you accuse him of anything.

1. Check the transaction report for the timestamp to be sure before you accuse.

2. DJ Hackett should be inserted back into the lineup, considering that is what he had to begin with. After this, I would check every week to see if he has done this before. Hopefully, he was not able to delete the transactions from history. WHAT SITE DO YOU USE FOR YOUR LEAGUE????

3. A new commish should be appointed IMMEDIATELY by a community vote.

4. Then decide by a community vote whether to kick him from the league.

I agree with most of the postings here. If he did cheat, he should be kicked out of the league. If he refuses, you should quit and take as many other owners as you can with you.

I have nothing new to add, but want to add my voice to the choir - check the logs, and if you are sure he cheated, he should be removed from the league. If he doesn't go, you should.

I don't like the forfeit idea because in the end it really only helps one team (the one he's playing). I think the solution is a 3 step process:

1. Re-insert Hackett.

2. Remove commish powers and give them to someone who can be trusted for the remainder of the season.

3. Start looking for a replacement. If you can find one this year, kick him out. If you can't, don't let him back next year.

Problem solved.

Do you have MFL? Just go to transactions and you will see every lineup submission, etc. - all time stamped. If your league doesn't - you know to change next year - including your Commissioner. I think just losing that week is not nearly enough - but you probably wouldn't get anything out of him - $ I mean. Make sure his rep is dirt and humiliate him. Call his family - make sure his parents know that what kind of person they raised.
