Are you eating a Puffin?
They actually eat those here, also eat Horse and Whale.

There is a restaurant on the main strip that serves both in a combo meal...a bit pricey though. I'm on the fence.

No interest in horse meat.

What is the current temperature? In F imo
iPhone says 57 degrees, which seems about right. There has been a little bit of rain since arriving but nothing too serious. It gets pretty chilly if you go anywhere at altitude or near bodies of water that are inland.

So, no ice?
All the ice I have seen is on mountains, and obviously the glaciers. So yes, there is ice.

Are you going to Blue Lagoon? How about Gulffoss?

Have you been to the Lebowski Bar?
Blue Lagoon is this afternoon...90 bucks. Very tourist trappy, but wth might as well.

Gulfloss was amazing...was there yesterday.

Lebowski bar was fun...had DJs, trashy women and lots of Euros.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed the Blue Lagoon. I was also told the local outdoor swimming pools are great and they are cheap. We didn't make it to one though.

The Steakhouse (Steikhuis) is really good, if a little pricey. There is also an amazing fish and chips place practically next door called, creatively, Fish Restaurant Reykjavik.

How much is a gallon of milk in American dollars?
no clue, overall it's on the pricey side here...but as affordable as it's been in recent years.
I imagine you got the amazing deal that they have been advertising on Travel Zoo.
my total airfare for SF - Iceland - Norway and return Stockholm - SF was 1200.00. I thought it was a steal.
We went to Iceland for five nights from Seattle. Including airfare and hotel it was $799 per person.

I have seen even cheaper deals advertised recently.

That was a really good deal...hotels were overbooked this past weekend with prices hovering 200-300/night for anything decent. Hotels were asking people to consolidate rooms for money back offers. There is no way you would get that deal now.

I believe the demand has been spiking.

There was a three night deal that was advertised just a few days ago for under $700/person, inclusive of airfare. It sold out.

Update (July 2, 10 a.m. PT): Icelandair has updated the "Price" tab on its landing page to reflect dates available at the $679 price, along with dates available at upgraded hotels. We recommend booking early as dates are quickly selling out.

World-famous geothermal baths and the opportunity to view the fabled northern lights await travelers on this three-night Iceland vacation for $679 per person, including airfare and taxes,in a sale ending Friday.

Saving $500 on self-package pricing, this special from Icelandair covers:

  • Roundtrip nonstop flights to Reykjavik from Seattle
  • Three nights at the centrally located Hotel Klettur in downtown Reykjavik
  • Blue Lagoon experience, including admission, algae mask skin treatment and transfers
  • Northern lights boat tour and return hotel transfer
  • Daily breakfast (except arrival day)
  • All taxes and fees
Depart select dates November-March -- the best season to catch a glimpse of the northern lights. Additional hotel options are also discounted.
Book by July 3. Top 20 deal – sells out quickly.

That is a really good deal if the hotel is decent. Is it during the week? Is the stay in July/peak season?

No, that was for November-March. We went in April and actually paid less, when you figure we stayed two extra nights at the nice Hilton.

Can you post random pics of beautiful women you see in a 15-30 minute period passing by on the sidewalk? Trying to gauge talent which I've heard is excellent.

I hear the microbrews are great. The Lava stout gets great reviews
There is a beer here called Einstock that I really like. The locals have told me the tourists drink "Viking"...apparently the equivalent of Fosters to Australians.

I haven't been blown away overall, but I will say that some of the more expensive restaurants and bars I've visited have some model-esque types.

Is there anything to the old myth that Iceland was named to keep new settlers from knowing how nice much of the country was and Greenland was named to trick settlers into moving there instead?

I think in the summer time Iceland is warmer than Greenland.
