Chester Taylor (1 Viewer)

I'm back this week and today I have another Lost But Not Forgotten player for you.

Take a look at these two running backs and tell me which one is more effective.

Runningback 1: 2010 80 total rushes but out of these 80 only 8 were for first downs

Now here's a bigger stat that's more impactful. Runningback 1 has a total of four goaline carries at the opponent's 1 yard line and has converted ZERO TDs. Runningback 1 has 3 total rushing TD in 2010 but only one of them came inside the opponent's 10 yard line. The other was from 18 yards and 68 yards.

Runningback 2: 2010 41 total rushes but out of these 41 8 were for first downs. Runningback 2 when given less than half the duties of Runningback 1 has been more effective as an inside runner. Who is Runningback 2? He is CHESTER TAYLOR.

Chester Taylor is probably sitting out on your waivers. Last I checked he is owned 18% in Yahoo leagues. You may have looked back at Chester Taylor's stats and thought they were pedestrian. Well they were except week 5 vs Car when he toted 18 carries for 43 yards. He actually ran for a TD only to be called back and ruled down at the 1 yard line. The important stat in this game was that the Chicago Bears decided to run the ball which resulted in a win. Under Mike Martz' offensive system it's obvious now (especially you Jay Cutler owners) that the Chicago Bears offensive line cannot sustain nor block long enough for the WR routes to develop downfield. Much like the Greenbay Packers there has to be an emphasis on running the football moving forward. If you haven't guessed by now, Runningback 1 is Matt Forte. He's just not getting it done between the tackles. Matt Forte has twice the number of carries as Chester Taylor but has converted the same amount of first downs. If the Chicago Bears are interested in going back to their winning ways, Mike Martz will find a way to get the ball into Chester Taylor's hands. Chester Taylor has proved this year that he is a much better runner than Matt Forte. Now don't get me wrong. Matt Forte is still the RB1 in this offense. But he is much better utilized as an outside/pass catching RB under this system. If the Chicago Bears want to keep Jay Cutler's head intact this year then they need to RUN THE FOOTBALL. It will open the game vertically and keep the defense honest therefore the WR routes will develop.

If you have a roster spot go pickup Chester Taylor right now. James Starks is getting all the hype. But Chester Taylor will be a great bye week filler for you in the coming weeks.

Good points here...and something to think about.

The question I have, if of various other RB's likely still on waivers (i.e. Ivory or Woodhead) who has more value as bye week fill in?

good read... the only thing where Forte will continue to shine is in the passing game. His rushing stats aren't that good, but then again the CHI O-Line ain't that good. Not sold on Taylor though either.. only from the fact he doesn't have that many touches.

To your credit though, I agree, that as a bye week filler, you could do a lot worse. Personally, if I needed a bye week filler in a 12-14 team league... I'd be watching the KC situation carefully. Dexter McCluster is starting to get more involved and Yahoo has him listed as RB/WR, so you can use him in both spots. My guess is he starts becoming heavily involved as the season goes on.

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz revealed Monday that the Bears will use Chester Taylor as their goal-line back moving forward.

Just one of Matt Forte's three rushing touchdowns this season has come on a true "goal-line carry," but this strips him of some scoring potential moving forward. Forte will continue to touch the ball 18-20 times a game, depending on game flow. It only gives Taylor a slight fantasy boost. The 31-year-old is averaging eight touches per game and just 3.6 yards per carry.

Can we start a "Guys That Love to Circle Back to Enjoy Their Own Flagellance" forum?
I'm contributing to the Shark Pool by posting that the Chicago Bears just announced who their goal line back will be going forward. I can't help it if you have Matt Forte and you pissed about this.

No Forte, no Taylor, no Bears allowed... I know, it sounds crazy but it's worked out so far.I do have Mike Williams though (two actually).

"Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he'd like to use Matt Forte and Chester Taylor on the field together.

''We've got to get them in the game more together,'' Martz said. ''That's a neat opportunity for us. We've explored a little bit of that.'' Martz just needs to worry about actually giving the ball to a running back. The Bears have a 58/42 pass/run play ratio this year."

In my experience, very few 31 year old RBs with low yards per carry averages all of a sudden have huge breakouts behind atrocious OLs? Maybe it will happen despite the pass-happy offense and Chicccago's supreme need for RB blocking (which is the one area where Forte truly is an elite RB), but I think there are better gambles to take, even if you are in a short roster league where CTaylor is available.

I believe the nail was hit squarely on head with this post.
