Chicago Bears Training Camp (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone, I just got back from the Chicago Bears Training Camp and here are my notes:

July 25th, 2014

1.) Jay Cutler didn't look 100% sharp. A few of his passes were behind receivers and a few more were way overthrown. I'd say 50% of his passes went to Brandon Marshall.

2.) Brandon Marshall looked dominate per usual, he caught every pass thrown his way except for one. He toasted Rookie Cornerback Kyle Fuller on a nice comeback route. They actually ran a screen to Marshall which was pretty cool.

3.) Rookie Cornerback Kyle Fuller was the standout player of the day for me. He registered 2 interceptions (there were 3 thrown all day).

4.) Marquess Wilson was running with the 1st String Offense but wasn't overly impressive to me. He made a reception on a deep ball but Cutler would have easily been sacked on the play. He fumbled on a short out route. I didn't see the blazing speed on the field today. He was pretty slow back to the line after the drill was completed.

Wilson was put in motion once, didn't see the ball that snap though.

5.) Alshon Jeffery only caught two passes throughout practice and it was a great contested catch where he had to shield away the defender. Wasn't overly impressive over the middle, he definitely makes his bread and butter on the outside. Was overthrown but Cutler once or twice. They ran an end around with him, physical player.

He bailed Cutler out on a throw that was behind him, had to box the defender out (again).

6.) Martellus Bennett didn't look all that sharp either. He was targeted three times. Dropped one over the middle, didn't work hard enough over the middle on a seam route, and caught a short pass after beating press coverage fairly short.

7.) The #4 receiving slot is pretty close and there are a lot of interesting prospects:

Josh Bellamy had a drop in receiving drills which was disappointing. Was smothered by Sherrick McManis on a comeback route. Was wide open on a pass from Jay Cutler deep but dropped the ball once it got to him.

Michael Spurlock looked pretty electric and shared return duties with Michael Ford. Didn't do much on Offense but was just as good as Ford in the return game. Dropped a pass in receiving drills.

Armanti Edwards looked fantastic in receiving drills but wasn't targeted much in actual practice.

Eric Weems had a quiet practice and has to be on the roster bubble. He didn't return a single kick and was sparsely used in practice for a few dumpoffs.

Terrance Toliver really impressed me. He looked fast in receiving drills and stands in at 6 ft 5. He saw quite a bit of action whenever he was on the field and bailed his Quarterback out on a couple of passes. Saw plenty of quick passes. He's my favorite to win the #4 job.

Josh Morgan looked pretty agile in receiver drills and was fairly active in practice. He highpointed a ball from Jordan Palmer that was a great catch.

Chris Williams made a fantastic sideline catch from Jordan Palmer. Easily the best catch of practice. I would be more excited about it if the guy wasn't 5 ft 8 and 175 lbs. Made a decent spin move.

8.) Ka'deem Carey looked like just another guy and only saw 2 - 3 snaps at Running Back today. I wasn't very impressed.

9.) Shaun Draughn on the other hand looked pretty beastly and was the 2nd best Running Back besides Forte today. Deceptively quick for a guy his size. Great hustle. Made a great juke for a big man.

10.) Michael Ford saw the majority of Running Back snaps behind Forte and was targeted early and Offense. Plenty of draws and dumpoffs for this guy, mostly with the #2 stringers. Not 100% impressed with his talent.

11.) Jordan Lynch saw snaps at Running Back with both the 2nd and 3rd String Offenses. He looked quick enough but I'm not sure he has the build to see snaps in actual games. He needs to bulk up a smidge.

12.) Both Lamar Houston and Jared Allen both looked great today and had "sacks" on the Quarterback. Instant pressure, hard to block those guys. Willie Young looked pretty beastly as well (not sure if it was against 1st or 2nd stringers though).

13.) Senorice Perry made a few great runs against the 3rd Stringers. If he continues, he'll definitely make the practice squad.

defense? Walgreen's status? Views on contemporary progressivism? (in that order please)
The defensive line is greatly improved and the secondary should be solid (Fuller played great).

I just got my yearly review at Walgreens and got a 3.8 out of 5.0. I am eligible to apply for my next promotion this Spring.

I hate it because of the mindset, "everyone is evil except me" that goes hand in hand with it.

jeffery owners are going to cursing taking him in rnd2 because of Cutler.

Cutler stares down marshall like woody allen stares down asian kids.

Specifically can you provide input on the two rookie DTs (Ferguson from LSU and the other guy), Shea McLellin's progress at LB (W or S?) as well as the DJ Williams/Bostic battle at MLB.

Also been hearing a lot about Vereen shining at FS? Anything to see here? Also, does Adrian Wilson have anything left in the tank? Who saw the most reps at the other safety spot

Walgreens: Good to hear, your loyalty should be rewarded.

Progressivism: This mindset is common to just about everyone, especially anyone with an agenda (see gay preachers).

read a camp report that said essentially that the only locked down player on the second level is Briggs at Will and Bostic, Williams, and McLellin and Greene are competing for the remaining spots. MLB should be between Bostic and Williams though.

Said safety is basically still a mess.

I can take a closer look at both Ferguson and the guy from LSU tomorrow morning. I can tell you that McLellin looked pretty explosive in a a drill where you have to get past blockers. I didn't get to see DJ Williams (I'll take a closer look at Defense tomorrow) but I did catch Bostic in a few drills and he looked plenty agile. I don't think athleticism is what he's lacking, which excites me because most guys can pickup technique.

Conor O'Neil (LB) was one of the stronger guys in a few block shedding drills. Green looked the part in the same drill as well.

Zach Miller was a monster that will definitely help in the running game.

Isaiah Fray is very fast.

The only thing I really saw from the safeties was a "hands drill". M.D Jennings had GREAT hands and seemed pretty decent in terms of attacking the ball. Wilson was in these same drills and looked natural catching the ball. I'll have to pay closer attention as to which safeties are playing with the #1s, 2#s, 3#s.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I wasn't able to get back to Bears campcamp this weekend. The players have tomorrow off and practice again on Wednesday. I'll be going to the Wednesday practice and will have another report for you guys.

I actually just bought a new camera so I will get video footage. I saw Jim Miller both at the training camp and at the bar a few days later. The best part about this is that Walgreens is sponsoring an event on August 6th so I will actually have a Press Pass on that day. I don't know if I'll be allowed to record in a Walgreens Uniform but if I'm behind the roped area I can probably setup a tripod and get a ridiculous quality video.

He practiced but he had two drops. One right when Trestman stepped on the field, got it on camera. Next chance he had to catch a pass, drop.

Thx for the update! He has good hands so I'm not too worried about a few dropped passes in training camp

Went to camp this morning and the place was absolutely packed. Easily the most people I have seen since going the last 5 or 6 years. Marshall was absolute beast today, it was incredible. Jeffery was also snagging everything out of the air. Forte running around catching passes like crazy. This offense is going to go nuts this year.

Marshall is quoted as saying he has the best hands of any WR he has ever played with.

Wow, that's impressive!

Wilson fractured his clavicle today. Not saying how long he will be out yet.

Sucks. Wonder who steps into that 3 spot now? Call Earl back? Josh Wilson?
