DT Sims Traded To Tampa

KCChiefs.com - [Full Article]

Kansas City Chiefs GM Carl Peterson announced on Tuesday that the club traded DT Ryan Sims to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an undisclosed future draft pick. Sims was the number six overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft.

Tampa? I thought it was the Falcons that needed tackle help. Seriously, the Bucs have Carter, Hovan, Wyms, Jenkins, and apparently expect fourth rounder Greg Peterson to push for time too. Granted, most are three-technique guys and Hovan isn't a prototypical NT but Sims???

As a Chiefs native and a fan I am glad KC made this move. NO NO lets change that response to I am ecstatic the Chiefs got something in return for this. I hope Chucky can motivate this kid to play because **** Vermeils tears had no motivation for this guy.

Sims is bad enough that I think it'll be for a 7th, maybe even a conditional 6th, where he has to make the roster, or something. He's good enough to be backup.

He was a disappointment in KC, and it was great they got sometihng for him, as he was a candidate to be cut.

 I'm sure it was for a 6th or 7th rounder. With all the players that we have at that position the Bucs are basically throwing all the noodles on the wall and seeing what sticks stinks.
I guarantee you the Chiefs are laughing all the way to the podium next year with the draft pick they got from Tampa.
Bucs using a late 2nd day pick on him >>>>>> KC selecting him 6th overall in '02.

No defending them there......and people forget, KC traded UP from 8 to 6 to get him! That KC draft in 2002 may be one of the worst ever.....for any team.

I still remember like it was yesterday when the Chiefs went running up the podium to pick up Sims because Minny did not make their pick on time....they were thrilled.....what a strange world this NFL draft can be.....and people still insist on grading a draft 2 days after.

No argument there. Chiefs have a history of terrible drafts. With the exception of last year but to include this year.My only point is that Sims isn't worth the half-eaten bologne sammich I got in my back pocket. Tampa could have gotten him for free.

Yeah, I'm not exactly running around the streets in celebration. If the Bucs spends even a 5th rounder on him I'll be :wall: .

A big thank you to the Chiefs for trading up to the #6 spot in the draft to grab Sims, thus "sticking" the Vikings with Bryant McKinnie.

Actually, I like the pick up by Tampa.

Sure Sims has been almost (if not) worthless for the Chiefs. But if it is a seventh rounder, the Bucs gave up very little for the hope that new surroundings will turn this guy around. Better yet, its a conditional pick that goes from ZIP to 7th round if he makes the roster. If Sims still stinks, the Bucs simply lost a late pick. But if he plays to even half of his potential they get a steal. Plus, its possible that if TB doesn't turn it around, then Gruden will be gone - and he'll have no need for that pick in next year's draft.

I also like the trade from KCs vantage point. KC is trying to get younger. Draft picks help - if used correctly.

This was not about getting younger (See James Reed and Ron Edwards)This was pure and simple: Addition by subtraction.Chiefs Asst. GM Denny Thum is a friend of a friend. Apparently Ryan Sims was just about the worst athlete he has ever seen regarding fame and money. Sims career went downhill right when the Chiefs selected him. he never knew or learned how to handle money, women, fame, etc. Thsi would have been done in '06 if it were not for the cap hit.

I like the low risk/high reward deal here. If he gets motivated and plays well the cost is minimal & if he is worthless then only a 7th rounder has been lost. And before anyone reminds me of Colston, look at the recent track record of Buccaneer picks in that round. At least he won't be Daryl Russell  will he?

LOL....hey if you were a top-10 pick you would be declared famous by default.

Good point and true. Still I got a chuckle out of it none the less. :banned:

Tampa = :11:
 Maybe they plan on using some new 6-0-4 D.
Even the Raiders had 11 players on the field last season.
That's part of the joke.... I don't think TB has a clue about what they are doing.
Really? Not to homer up here, but you don't think Monte Kiffin...Monte Kiffin has a clue what he's doing? They had a top-10 defense 10 years straight. I'm pretty sure he has a clue.

Maybe this guy will pan out, maybe he won't, but it wouldn't be the 1st, or 15th player he took off the scrap heap and made productive (Spires, Hovan, Quarles, Nece, etc etc).

Besides, a KC fan mocking another team for their bad defense is like an Eagles fan knocking somebody else for not winning a Super Bowl.

:thumbup:Tampa = :11:
yea, that Chiefs D has sure had a decade of dominance.:11:
Cappella if you were not so hasty, you would see that you basically said the same thing Warpig and others have said...Sims is ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS " that Chiefs D has sure had a decade of dominance."I am not saying Tampa is wrong here, but 99 percent of KC fans will tell you that getting ANYTHING for Ryan Sims is a huge victory. If you guys had traded us a kicker's tee we all would have been ecstatic.

I have no doubt you guys are happy to get him off the roster. I'm sure he was terrible or else he wouldn't have been moved for what is likely a 7th-rd pick. I just find it funny that KC fans would be mocking Tampa for picking this guy up for a song when they blew a top-10 pick on him.Reclamation projects happen all the time in the NFL. This guy obviously has talent, maybe somebody can get into his head. Maybe not. But it won't cost them anything to find out.

Happy to take a flyer on him. He has been productive at the NFL level (83 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception in 2003) although he certainly hasn't justified the Chiefs taking him with #6 overall. I can understand the glee of Chief fans because of their draft blunder, but that has nothing to do with the Bucs taking a flyer on him. Most likely they got him with a late pick. Pretty safe trade as far as I can see.

My bad. Bucs posted it on their website. Hope they didn't base the trade on those numbers. :football:
