Choosing Draft Slot Positions (1 Viewer)

Anybody ever been in a league where you get to choose you draft position sort of like horseracing?

first have a random drawing from 1 through 12 and then let players decide their draft position, starting with the guy who drew #1 and finishing with the guy who drew #12.

could make for interesting strategy.

you would take #1 first b/c of LT2 but the guy who drew #2 might take slot 2 or 3 or even 4 depending who they liked.

We do it in 2 of my leagues. They are both 10 team redrafts. To add to the strategy we also modify the draft order so it's not a straight serpentine. First 2 rounds are 1-10, 10-1. 3rd rounds starts with 9, 10, 1-8. 4th rounds starts with 8, 9, 10, 1-7. 5th starts with 7, etc. After the first 2 rounds you never have to wait more than 11 spots between picks and everybody gets at least 1 back to back set of picks. In one league the draft slot selections went:1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 8, 7, 5, 6In the other they went:1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 4, 10, 5, 8, 6I really like the combination of selecting your draft slot and our modified draft order. It adds to the strategy involved.

My 12 team re-draft has done this for about 5 years now. It's always interesting because some team always moves down - we've never had everyone choose the draft pick that corresponded to their seeding.

we are in a dynasty draft so obviously it's not something we can do anymore but I'm wondering if there is some kind of twist we can add to this theory for future drafts

I pushed for this for years and finally convinced my primary league to do it. Everyone loved the idea except for the Commissioner, as he ended up with the last choice and had a crappy draft.

I quit the league the next year.

We did this in my start up dynasty league.

I had the #3 choice and moved back to #5. It is a PPR league and I had targeted Bush. He was there at 5 and I would have taken him at 3. Was able to get S Smith in 2nd round due to moving back. He would not have been there if I was in the #3 hole.

We used to do this the past few years, it was nice being able to choose where you wanted to draft from instead of just automatically getting the slot. With a new commish for this year, we chose to scrap that and do a random draft order using a tool on the net.

We have done it this way for years. It adds an added dimension of strategy to the mix and all of the owners like it.

We have always held an auction for the first 3 rounds. And then gone onto blind draw serpentine. That way everyone gets a chance at whoever they want - its not just chance and it levels the playing field for people getting makes someone think hard about going for LTand SJax .

You get $100 and are assured of getting 3 picks (and only 3 picks - no extra picks if you have $ left over. For example, if LT is nominated out of the box and goes for $100, the guy getting LT goes down to 35th and 36th pick. If there is a tie on a bid then we draw cards. If someone else runs out of money before getting all 3 picks they then go to the bottom of the list for their last pick - next guy would be 34th pick for example.

You may nominate whoever you want - but you must bid a minimum of $5 if want to limp out a gimp.

We've done it for years, 10+, with minimal impact- I like the idea of it, so continue it. Sometimes, the #7 guy moves down to the 10 draft slot, or so, but most people stay put.

We hold an NBA-Style lottery based on the previous year finishing order. 1st place gets one ball ....12th place gets 12.

The lottery produces varied results but the choices tend to hold to form for the most part.

this is my 3rd year of doing that in 2 of my leagues. I like it. Doesn't really change anything, but it adds a small element of strategy. I've finished high the previous year so I've picked late regardless. I did drop from 8 to 10 once though....
