Chop the Championship pot? (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
Going into the Championship game this week and I've just received an offer from the other owner

Do you think you would want to split the championship pot down the middle......winner getting bragging rights?

Is this something I should do? Have you done this before?

Our teams:

His(12-3)

QB: Rivers

RB: C Johnson/Hillis

WR: V Jackson/Ocho

FLX: McCoy

K:Carpenter

D: NYJ

Mine(8-7)

QB: Vick

RB: Rice/Bradshaw

WR: Megatron/Lloyd

FLX: Choice(or Jennings is MJD is out)

K: Buehler

D: NYG

Take the deal and run, or ride it out?

Oh, winner walks with $3000 and 2nd gets $1500(or we both get $2250)

Tough call, but I have never ever split a championship pot and probably wouldn't do it. I am splitting a 3rd place game pot 60/40 since there isn't a 4th place payout.

In the past I have chopped. One year, I Had a dominate team and theother guy offered me a 60/40 chop before the game started. I took it and lost the game :) Ive also done a chop before where we split it 50/50, but the loser bought the winner a bottle of Single Barrel jack. Last nigtht my opponent offered me a 60/40 chop with the winner getting the 60. I have a better team with better matchups, so I am going to turn it down. Hope I dont regret it.As for you, you can counter offer one of my suggestions above, or you can decide how much you need the money. If your struggling to buy presents for christmas take the chop. If not, go for the gamble.

I don't like the even chop, but you could certainly narrow the gap on the 1st/2nd payouts. Maybe something like $2,500/$2,000 or $2,400/$2,100. That way you're still playing for something, just not $1,500.

This is what I would suggest

A) Refuse the Chop

B) Accept the Chop

C) Both take $2000 and play for $500

Either B or C would be my preference. Fun to play for something, but that's a lot of cash to be risking on what may be a coin flip.

I like this idea. If you end up losing the game, you end up winning more anyway than if you didn't split pot. And if you win the game, you don't lose as much as if you split pot.

would you side bet $750 on one fantasy football game?
right except that if you don't have the $750 in your pocket right now you are not losing it. I can see the arguement for "if you split pot, then you have $ in your packet" but if you split then you are not making the bet.... oh i am so confused...

I don't chop, but I guess it depends on if you need the money or not. This idea isn't bad though.

winner getting bragging rights?

Whose going be bragging? The winner of the game that didn't have the stones play the game straight up?

I would split for this very reason. You have a guaranteed 2250 in your pocket, so no reason to risk 750 of it on a game that obviously is more luck than anything, especially at this point in the race. For me, winning would not be less fun if I did this and losing would definitely be more fun. Seems like a no lose situation to me.

No. I would be happy to win 1500 with a good chance to win 3000.

If I won and had to split it would piss me off more than it would make me happy if I lost the game and chopped..if that makes sense.

Your squad is very similar to mine, I am playing for the title and plan on winning, so don't chop and take the all the loot!

I do like the idea of $2k each and play for $500 to the winner though.

I'm only going to say this once - in my oldest league (started 1987) we had a pot chopping agreement between the two finalists. The next week both guys were in pretty serious car accidents. (separate incidents) They both died, but not before telling doctors and nurses that Satan informed them they were being taken to hell due to chopping the pot in a fantasy football league. Just passing this on to you good people in hopes that it doesn't happen again.

Hell, i already know thats where I am going anyway! I just hope I have done enough good deeds in my life that i will get a good room once I get there. You know, one with a view of the fire lake and the torturings. Maybe a room that isnt directly over the flames. Yea, that would be preeetty sweet.

Last year this was offered up (70/30) split and the one team didnt take it - then the greedy ******* lost and didnt get anything..

Even if you think you are going to win, you may not :)

It's christmas and a 70/30 is always a nice option as you both get something and of course winning it all really ends up being better than the 30% you may have also won..

counter the split with something like this percentage so it does matter from a money situation.. best of luck, playing for it all and offered this up to the guy I'm playing and he declined.. hope to beat him and make him pay for it.

:lmao: if both teams have an equal chance at winning, you are betting 750 on a coin flip. would you do that?even a with a 2000-2500 split, you are betting 250 on a coin flip. would you do that?based on your teams, i'd say you have a less than 50% at winning (maybe 40-45%). so that tells you to take the split as well

The shark move is to offer to split the championship pot with the other party, and leave out any mantion of the runner-up pot.

The other party accepts, assuming you mean to split both pots.

Then, just prior to kickoff, tank your lineup.

You get $3000 ($1500 for losing plus $1500 for half the championship pot).

He gets $1500 (his half of the championship pot) and bragging rights.

Brilliant!

I have chopped before with the winner getting bragging and all transaction money

I have not approached him this year and he hasnt asked me which means we both think we have a shot at it

For me it's this ^^^^^. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. Just sayin'

This is where I'm at too. Go for it. Your downside is still $1,500. You're in perfect position. Perfect. You have a $1,500 chip in your pocket and still a pile of money on the table. Maybe you turn that pile into $1,500 more. Maybe your luck changes, you lose the money on the table, and walk with the $1,500 chip in your pocket. Either way you drank for free and had hot babes on your arm.

Option C is the way to go. Even split is lame but adding a $500 to the losers prize and ensuring $2000 to the loser is nice insurance.

I'm in with this as well. But I love to play with house money.I wouldn't blame you for chopping but unless I was in need of the cash, I'd roll the dice.

WOW, you are brave not chopping until the championship.

In my league we were all scared we were gonna lose our money so we all agreed to chop before the season started and everyone kept their entrance fees! We all call that a win win win win win win win win scenario!

split that ####, week 17 championships stink, very hard to tell who will play or sit, so it is very hard to tell who has the advantage. Bragging rights are just fine.
