Chris Carpenter (1 Viewer)

Chris Carpenter's elbow felt great after Saturday's bullpen session and he will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.

"My elbow is doing good," Carpenter said. "No swelling. No nothing. ... There was no reaction." If all continues to go well, Carpenter could return to the rotation next Tuesday.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Good news...for now.The problem is that he has had arm injuries before and has been relatively blessed the last few years. My hope is that by shelving him for the last few weeks he will be fine for the rest of the season. he will need to build his endurance up over the next few weeks so the bullpen will be taxed in his starts. My fear is that he comes back and is not quite right for the rest of the season which will lead to more downtime and about half the innings he was normally projected for. not good news considering how poorly the rest of the staff has been this year.

Agreed. I am hoping for him to have a couple of solid outings and then start shopping him around. If St. Louis doesn't start picking it up it could be a situation later in the year where the slightest discomfort leads to shutting him down.

Per Rotoworld:

Chris Carpenter (elbow) threw three simulated innings to four Cardinals hitters on Tuesday and had no problems.

"It was a test," said pitching coach Dave Duncan. "If he comes in good [on Wednesday], then that will be real positive. He still didn't prove anything until he comes in feeling good." Carpenter could potential return next Tuesday without the benefit of a rehab start.
