Chris Hope droppable? (1 Viewer)

Dont overreact after 3 games ...
Will you be saying that after 6 games?8 tackles3 assists1 passes defended0 interceptions0 force fumbles1 fumble recoveriesI'm just wondering why he was ranked so high and has yet to produce much of anything...You'd overreact too if you lost your week by 0.14 points when Hope couldn't even manage a tackle (or anything) in the final three quarters.

I had him last year and he was great. But this year, not so much. I am thinking of dropping him for Marlin Jackson. Staying with the TEN D, Bulluck's tackle numbers are way down. Are they running a different defense this year?

Rushing attempts against per game 2007 >>> 18.3

Rushing attempts against per game 2006 >>> 31.6

Total offensive snaps faced per game 2007 >>> 36.67

Total offensive snaps faced per game 2006 >>> 66.38

The Titans are playing better overall -- both offense and defense -- this year. But those numbers are not sustainable. The New Orleans Saints faced the fewest number of offensive snaps per game last year -- just over 58. The lowest number of rushing attempts faced per game last year was 21.8 (Minnesota Vikings).

I'm still preaching patience here, especially with Bulluck, who was the same disruptive force he's always been last night. Hope is a tougher sell, but is still an excellent candidate to rebound. It's the same defense, just much different opportunity.

I think Hope is a great buy low candidate right now, for the reasons listed by Jene regarding number of rushing attempts and snaps.

Is there a place on the FBG site where I can find this kind of raw data? (I've decided I'm going to ruin my career in favor of geeking out on IDP this year.)Thanks.

I didn't even see him in the game Monday night.... I had him against me in a close game, and I never saw him..... and that was when NO was behind alot and Deuce was out.... so lots of nickel/dime packages.... never saw him.... don't think he had a point in the 2nd half.

He got his two tackles in the 1st quarter and then I never saw him again, not even on the replays or anything. When I did see him it looked like he was deep in coverage. I seriously thought he was taken out of the game...He's on a bye this week and I'm finding it really hard to keep him on my roster right now. I don't have any offensive players or extra kickers to drop to pick up a replacement either :banned:

I think a lot of this has to do with game factors. Hope is their SS, the primary DB who will be in the box during blitzes/rushes. They were up at least 10 basically the whole game, Deuce was hurt, so they knew they were gonna pass probly 80% of the time until Bush could do something. With this in mind, Im pretty sure they played it safe and Hope was protectin the pass.I have Bullock and despite his low tkl #'s (yes, I know he had 3 INTs) im not worried. Hope should be fine

There is not. Takes some extra mousing and calculation than it used to with the new NFL.com site, but the team stat pages and gamebooks are still a wealth of information for looking a little deeper than the boxscore.

I dropped him this week in a shallow bench league for Atari Bigby... this is good news for all you hanging on to him, he'll blow up this week! YWIA!

I spent about four hours last night checking to see how much extra information a person gets for waiting four, five, and then six weeks on IDPs, and I wrote up an article on it. I sent it to Jene to see if FBG would be interested in it (and if not I'll just post a link to it here). Bottom line was that, using only past performance as a forecaster of future performance, you don't gain a whole lot of extra info past week four. There was a bit of a jump from three to four, and then it actually fell slightly.Having said that, you must, of course, check to see if the factors causing the overly high or low stats can be considered temporary, and just looking at past numbers is more reliable when talking about lb's than db's (and least reliable with dl's, whose numbers are pretty volatile).Bottom line: I'd be tempted to cut Hope, depending on who else is available. Part of Hope's problem, I assume, is that the Titans are a better team than they were last year. In 2006, the Titans went 8-8, and while Hope had an identical number of assists in those games, he had 11 more solos in the losses than in the wins. There's too much of a drop off for that to be the whole thing, but a) it's part of it and b) that's not going to go away this year. They are a better team.

Something else that occurred to me while checking these stats--it's easy to forget that even the top players at their positions had slow weeks. Here are Hope's solos and assists from last season (in order):

7 2

12 0

6 4

8 2

2 3

3 2

4 1

7 1

6 2

4 4

8 3

5 1

3 2

9 1

3 2

2 2

Now look what happens if I rearrange them and put the worst solo weeks first:

2 2

2 3

3 2

3 2

3 2

4 4

4 1

5 1

6 2

6 4

7 1

7 2

8 3

8 2

9 1

12 0

That gives him five straight weeks of five or fewer total tackles--and panic time for his owner! Instead, he started with 9, 12, 10, and 10, and he actually averaged 3.5 fewer total tackles per game for the rest of the season--quite a drop off. If fate arranges for those slow weeks to come first then, yes, indeed, keep that guy in there--but is it fate or a trend? That's the fun part!

So is it at the point now to give up Hope?

I don't think I can justify keeping him with this many better options available.

Today, an owner in my Dynasty League dropped

C. Hope

J. Bullocks

E. Reed

all in one move. My DB's are:

K. Hayden

M. Jackson

T. McGee

A. Winfield

E. Wright

K. Hamlin

so I'm in decent shape at DB. Would you guys drop any of the DB's I have to grab any of those dropped above? We can start either 3 or 4 DB's

Thanks,

GROMS

Another week ... another "below expectations performance". I have read with interest some of the "time in possession" arguements being used to support claims for retaining Hope and Bulluck .... and again today the Titans dominated time in possession 37:37 to 22:23 .... whilst this trend is intriguing given the struggles the Titans are having on offense (18+ pts per game ... would be very interesting see where the Titans rank in terms of points scored per minute of time in possession) .... the more alarming downward trend for IDPers who own Hope and Bulluck appears well set this year.

May be time to call time and move on ...

For what it's worth, it appears that none of the Safeties in TEN are producing. I have Calvin Lowry and was hoping he'd be a nice sleeper pick in a deep dynasty, but he has been invisible as well.

They simply aren't getting as many opportunities to make plays because the defense has not been on the field much.
Anthony - The million dollar question then becomes... will this trend even out? Or will the Titans continue to dominate time of possession and stunt their players IDP value???

Even if the time of possession evens out, the defense will have far less opportunities than last year when the TOP was reversed. That said, I don't see it evening out unless Collins is the QB.

My conclusion, drop Hope, hang with Bullock.

I've been hanging with Hope through week 6, but no longer; there are too many viable alternatives out there.

If Vince Young is out for any extended amount of time Hope and the Titans D may well see the opportunities needed for Hope and Bullock to up their stats. Otherwise I think it's time to cut and run.
