So the Titans had a coaching change before last season. For a llllong time before that they had good linemen and thus always a decent if not good running game.

Chris Palmer became offensive coordinator (OC) when their OL coach became head coach.

Palmer coached the Browns(HC but OC more or less), Texans(OC), and now the Titans(OC). Somewhere in the middle there he was brought to Dallas to...remember when Bledsoe was in Dallas?

I really think the Titans O looks very very very similar to those bad offenses.

Who remembers them? Do you agree?

I remember watching him in Houston a few years ago. Horrible coach. Fortunately, ive forgotten about most of it but if anyone could give me a reminder as to the details of his team destroying abilities it would help fairly assess C. Johnson.

i think your on to something here. on top of that, tenn was projected to have a very good o-line which i is based mostly on o-line talent.

Plus their HC is a former O-Lineman and O-Line Coach. It is also currently coached by a good O-Line Coach. Remember the David Carr Sack Era?Palmer:CouchPalmer:CarrPalmer:Locker?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Titans coach Mike Munchak has fired offensive coordinator Chris Palmer and replaced the veteran with quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains.

The Titans said Munchak told Palmer of his decision Monday night.

Munchak said in a statement he respects Palmer as a coach, which is why they brought him to Tennessee.

``As an offense I didn't feel like we were progressing the way that I had hoped,'' Munchak said. ``I believe we needed a change in direction and I hope to see that progress in our remaining games. Dowell has worked here for a number of years under some very successful coordinators and he is ready for this challenge.''

Owner Bud Adams put everyone in the franchise on notice after a 51-20 loss to Chicago on Nov. 4. Jake Locker returned to the starting lineup Nov. 11, and Tennessee beat Miami 37-3. But the Titans (4-7) became the first team to lose in Jacksonville 24-19 on Sunday when the offense sputtered after getting to the Jacksonville 24 and had to settle for five field goal attempts.

The Titans are 24th averaging 327.7 yards per game and only 20th in passing with an average of 220.8 yards per game. Tennessee is 30th with an average time of possession of 27 minutes, 11 seconds per game, and 29th with 17.5 first downs per game.

Palmer helped the New York Giants win the 2008 Super Bowl as quarterbacks coach with Eli Manning. But he was working in the UFL as head coach of the Hartford Colonials when Munchak hired him in February 2011 knowing Tennessee would be drafting a quarterback that April with the eighth pick overall.

The Titans used that selection on Jake Locker. He was chosen the starter this August, and the loss to Jacksonville was his sixth start due to injury. Munchak said earlier Monday that Locker threw too early on a pass intercepted late when Tennessee had the ball and a chance to take the lead.

``If you want to be in the playoffs, those are the drives you have to finish,'' Munchak said before firing Palmer.

Loggains, 32, has been with the Titans since 2006 when he was hired as a coaching administrative assistant. He became quality control coach for the offense in 2008 and 2009 when the late Mike Heimerdinger was the team's offensive coordinator.

A quarterback in college at Arkansas, Loggains was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2010. He helped Kerry

Collins post an 82.2 passer rating that was the third-best of his career, while Vince Young had a 98.6 passer rating that was the best of his career to that point.Veteran Matt Hasselbeck had the third best season of his career last year with the Titans, throwing for 3,571 yards.

(KFFL)With the move to new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, the Tennessee Titans are expected to return some of their base principles run by former offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger. Loggains will look to get rid of confusion that was created in Chris Palmer's offense where the quarterback and receiver were regularly crossed up and not on the same page. Palmer's option routes frequently included no flexibility for the players. Loggains is expected to allow receivers more freedom to play off coverages to take advantage of space and work in it. QB Jake Locker will be allowed to see something develop and take advantage of it. The move to Loggains should mean more downfield options. Some of the underneath options may disappear - a tight end heading into the flat may now stay in to block to allow the other tight end who is crossing deeper a chance to make a play.
What is the word out of Titans camp? Is this going to be a boost for Britt and Cook?

Heimerdinger was creating mismatch genius, not sure if top OC seems too strong for him, but he was brilliant at creating mismatches-BB like. To have "his boy" as OC could be wonderful, who knows though he's younger than many players I bet.

Tom Moore was brought in too.

So curiously no chatter on this board.

Moore is awesome yet 74, arguably best OC last 20 years.

Alot of coaches over the years have brought in older guys as consultants to sorta lend their opinion and help, but not so much a full time gig. Well, fulltime NFL coach is like 24/7, more like full time real world 40 hours week job.

Anyhow, it is exciting to know he's on Titans staff for obvious reasons.

Also, Fisher and Schwartz were arguably the best at dealing with Peyton-his QB. They lost most of those coaching gems and replaced em'. Moore's presence brings some of that back to the Titans.

I'm curious what Palmer's absence will display, because it hasn't looked like quality coaching.

Moore is like extra. If Loggains stinks this staff will be broken up fast this offseason. It's important he shows the potential Dinger saw in him.

The Oline staff has been doing so much better which leaves an OC a lot to work with given the talent at skill positions.

Few years before Schwartz left and D wasn't as good but DL held it together some. Munchak's staff lost an awesome DL coach. He needs to get offense settled so he can get that DL fixed. He is super line coach, I don't doubt he can teach DL well like he did OL. Their DL coach now is meh but Munchak could probably help.

I feel like Bruce Matthews finally gets it as an OL coach and now we have been seeing what the HOFer can do. That's one huge addition. Moore n Loggains could be another. The staff was decimated. This team is talented enough to be a top offense, they need D help. Most of all though, they need to dramatically improve the coaching staff quickly. They dont have 3-4 years in their "window." Their great Tackles will be old then, CJ might be run into the ground by then, they gotta hire better staff quick.
