What's up with him? Any rumour? Any speculation? Sneeky pick-up?

Team silent on Perry's status
By Kevin Goheen
Post staff reporter
Injured running back Chris Perry became eligible to come off of the physically unable to perform list Monday but neither he nor the team had any transaction to announce. Head coach Marvin Lewis declined comment on Perry's status, while Perry said he did not know what the team's plans for him were at this moment.
"I don't know. I honestly don't know," said Perry on Monday as he walked out of the training room. "I haven't gone through a full practice yet so I don't know if I can. I look forward to it. I look forward to going through a full practice."
Perry fractured his right ankle last November in a game at Cleveland. He began last season on PUP, missing the first five games before returning to the team.
The Bengals can have Perry begin practicing at any time the next three weeks. Once Perry begins practicing the Bengals have a three-week window to evaluate him. At any time during that window they may activate him from PUP to the 53-man roster or decide that he is not healthy enough to play and place him on injured reserve, ending his season.
"It's a matter of everybody putting their heads together and deciding that it's time," said Perry. "I don't know what my future is here but hopefully I can be here and help this team out as much as possible. But I don't know what their plans are upstairs (management), to be honest. Look at what they did this year in the draft."
The Bengals spent a second-round draft choice this year to select running back Kenny Irons from Auburn. Irons was expected to fill Perry's role as the complementary back behind Rudi Johnson. He is instead missing the entire season due to a torn ACL suffered in the preseason opener at Detroit on Aug. 9. Perry has had a long list of injuries since the Bengals drafted him in the first round in 2004 but when healthy he has produced. He caught 51 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 279 yards on 61 carries in 2005. Perry played in 14 games that season but has appeared in just eight games in his three other seasons, including this year.
"I would love to be playing but there are some things that you have to consider before you play," said Perry. "You can't just get out there and then have something else happen, God forbid. You have to make sure you're at the best you can be because you can't help your team out if you're not out there. Hopefully I can get out there as soon as possible."
Thanks, Frenchy. From Bengals insider Mark Curnutte yesterday:

If fresh includes multiple surgeries on his legs and ankles, then yeah he's still fresh.I have carried him in a few dynasty leagues for some time, only because of his draft position and his youth. I think he's still a dynasty hold for the next two months, but I'm not running to grab him these days unless I have crap at the end of my bench. RB years are like dog years and a guy who has had leg and ankle problems his whole so-called career isn't likely to be the same guy that was drafted 4 years ago. Time is running out on him, and if he shows nothing by the end of this year at the age of 26, I cut him loose and don't look back.Perry was a first round selection right? And the Bengals have him for 2 more seasons? Gotta think at some point they are will want to see what the heck this guy has or at least try to show him off to trade to another team.
At least he's almost as fresh as he was in 2004 when they drafted him! Unless I'm reading these stats wrong he's only had 73 rush attempts since entering the NFL!
When did he do this?he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.
He was a beast at Michigan, I am surprised he cannot handle even a minimal role without getting injured at this level. He's turning into another Tim Biakabatuka.I believe he was PUP'd and will soon be available, but I don't know his condition. I've always believed that Perry could be LT2 caliber if he were durable, but he has been super fragile or unbelievably unlucky. Still, like many Perry owners, the mere potential he has led me to reserve a roster spot for him and then kick myself for doing so.
Well, the full sentence was:When did he do this?he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.
I was referring to his pass catching ability and chose the word "runner" because it flowed better than "pass catcher".If they want more receiving production out of the running back spot, Perry might just get a shot and he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.
Actually, he IS decent, but apparently it's amateur night at the Laugh Factory in here.valhallan said:Well, the full sentence was:When did he do this?he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.I was referring to his pass catching ability and chose the word "runner" because it flowed better than "pass catcher".If they want more receiving production out of the running back spot, Perry might just get a shot and he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.
The Laugh Factory line is my shtick and considering the statement in question clearly says "good runner" I am exactly right to wonder when he proved that in the NFL.He has good hands I guess but it's not like he is posting a Westbrook or Thurman like 9.6 ypc or even LT's 7.4 (7.9 over the last 5 years). Guys like those mentioned and the Ronnie Harmon's of the league are good pass catchers out of the backfield. Even guys like Lamont Jordan average 8.3 yards per catch. Ronnie Brown 8.3, McGahee 7.3, Fred Taylor 8.4, Julius Jones 8.1, MBIII 7.9, Tiki 8.8...even Kevan Barlow averaged 8.1, Jerome Bettis 7.2. I'm just picking names at random here guys, many of whom aren't exactly known for their receiving skills.Perry's 6.4 ypc is closer to Rudi Johnson's 5.9 then the good pass catchers in the league. So yes Perry has proven that he can catch well and not do to much with the ball after the catch.I'll be here all the week. Don't forget to tip your waitress.Actually, he IS decent, but apparently it's amateur night at the Laugh Factory in here.valhallan said:Well, the full sentence was:When did he do this?he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.I was referring to his pass catching ability and chose the word "runner" because it flowed better than "pass catcher".If they want more receiving production out of the running back spot, Perry might just get a shot and he's certainly proven himself to be a good runner at this level.
You can't drop your best RB because your medical staff sucks. Perry is a first down machine and he makes their offense great.Marvin Lewis yesterday.... looks like they aren't saying much.Q: Chris Perry. Does he have a chance of returning to practice? ML: Yes, he does. Chris Perry has a chance to return to practice. Q: Do you know when? ML: Yeah, I actually probably do know when. But we'll wait until we do that. Chris has really done well. He's working hard. If he doesn't have any setbacks here with anything, it should be in short order. As a Bengals fan myself, I would go ahead and drop Chris Perry, the Bengals medical staff is the worst in the league, Tab Perry and Ethan Kilmer were supposed to be back for the Patriots game but became OUT later in the week and have now gone on IR, in addition Rashad Jeanty and Ahmad Brooks were also supposed to be back for the Pats game as well, were both downgraded to OUT, and didnt even return last week AFTER THE FREAKING BYE! And if that wasnt bad enough Lemar Marshall got injured against the Pats and was hopping off the field after injuring his Achilles, our entire training staff walked behind him, INSTEAD OF FREAKING HELPING HIM OFF THE FIELD OR GETTING HIM A CART!The training staff has misdiagnosed Perry three times now I think its safe to cut him now. Its the reason Willie Anderson and Carson Palmer have opted to go outside of the medical staff to receive help. Proof is our players seeking treatment outside the organization, that's all the proof you need.

Perry practiced today according to the Cincy Enquirer.
Careful Nigel, a dramatic smilie like that could knock Perry out for another six weeks.Perry practiced today according to the Cincy Enquirer.![]()
Sorry. I'll contain my emotions.Careful Nigel, a dramatic smilie like that could knock Perry out for another six weeks.Perry practiced today according to the Cincy Enquirer.![]()
Even if Perry does practice, why would anyone think that Perry has overtaken Watson at this point? Seems like a lot of hype over a guy who hasn't even stepped on the field all year.Perry practiced today according to the Cincy Enquirer.![]()
No one's saying that. I just think it's big news this guy's doing any type of athletics.Even if Perry does practice, why would anyone think that Perry has overtaken Watson at this point? No one has said that. Is it possible he does? Absolutely. Is it probable? Probably not. There's hype because of what people saw a healthy Perry play. Will we see that again? Who knows.Even if Perry does practice, why would anyone think that Perry has overtaken Watson at this point? Seems like a lot of hype over a guy who hasn't even stepped on the field all year.Perry practiced today according to the Cincy Enquirer.![]()
If they are both healthy, I think Perry is a better player in pretty much every regard (Well, maybe not blocking. Never saw Perry block). Especially in the passing game, where CJ and TJ really, really need some help. But since I qualified the statement with the word "healthy", we'll probably never get to find out.taz said:Even if Perry does practice, why would anyone think that Perry has overtaken Watson at this point? Chris Perry practices
Tailback Chris Perry, on the physically unable to perform list since the start of the season, is wearing shoulder pads and a helmet this morning at practice. He appears to be practicing. Today is the second day he is eligible to practice, under NFL rules governing the PUP list.
Also this morning, starting tailback Rudi Johnson (hamstring) is on the sideline working out with a strength and conditioning coach. Linebacker Ahmad Brooks (groin) is sprinting on the sideline under supervision of another trainer. Linebacker Caleb Miller (back) is not practicing, nor is wide receiver Chad Johnson (unknown).
Right tackle Willie Anderson is practicing and working with the starting offensive line: left tackle Levi Jones, left guard Andrew Whitworth, center Eric Ghiaciuc and right guard Bobbie Williams.
Safety Madieu Williams (back) is practicing, as is tight end Reggie Kelly (ankle). Wide receiver Antonio Chatman (hamstring) is not.
