chris redman (1 Viewer)

Petrino is to QBs as Shanahan is to RBs. Ya just never know. From the AJC:

No official announcement's been made yet, but beat writer Steve Wyche is fairly convinced that Chris Redman will start at quarterback when the Falcons face the Saints Monday night
FWIW, I agree, I think Redman will start, but don't be surprised if you don't know for sure until Sunday.

Im starting him in the playoffs, not because of his potential but because I have no other choice LOL... Hope he does start.

I haven't seen him play. I was asking about peoples thoughts, mainly because I had been considering playing the Saints defense this week.....getting a rookie with his first start in prime time could be good for a few turnovers, was my thinking....however, the more I look at the Saints defense, I understand why they are on the waiver wire.

The offense looked better with him in there than it has ALL year. But one thing that's not getting talked about. I'm fairly certain Norwood was in for every playl of both of those drives. The third drive that stalled, Dunn was in. So it could be a combo deal. It could also have been the defense adjusting to him. He did seem to stare down guys a bit. Hard to say with such limited exposure.

If it's me, I pick him up if I have a spot and let him ride a week to see what happens, unless you're desperate for a home run. He's definitely not the safe play. It's a decent schedule coming up.

Anybody know why he got the boot in Baltimore? Based solely on his stats, they don't look that bad. Did he get injured or pulled in '02?

You do know Chris Redman was drafted in 2000 by Baltimore?

You realize he's not a rookie right? He's started 6 games for the Ravens, and was out of football last year. Selling insurance if I remember correctly, when Petrino brought him in.

I wouldn't be surprised if Redman surprises a lot of people this week. He is in a pass happy system that he is very familiar with and most importantly, he is playing the Saints at home on a Monday night. The Saints made Luke McCown look like John Elway last week and I think Redman is a pretty safe bet for 250+ and 2TDs. We will just have to wait and see, but for those that are desperate, there are a lot worse options than Redman this week.

My problem is the whole Monday Night thing...

I would hate to have him starting and then hear on Monday that he isn't, and I can't swap anyone in for the spot...

Yeah there is definitely a small risk involved but I would be SHOCKED if he doesn't get the start after his performance in the 2nd half of the Stl game. He single-handedly put them in a position to come back from a 3TD deficit and the offense played with a spark that they haven't had all year. Redman + Norwood against NO = Shootout.

Back-ups generally have a good first outing as there isn't any tape on them to study. The 2nd and 3rd games for a back-up generally get progressively worse while showing why they are back-ups.

Need to decide between Redman and Warner. If Fitz is out I'm going with Redman, I think this may be their super bowl, MNF at home. I can see Warner getting knocked out and think Redman vs NO has a chance for a big game.

From Rotoworld:

Falcons coach Bobby Petrino confirmed Thursday that Chris Redman will be his starting quarterback Monday night against the Saints.

Redman will be Atlanta's third starting QB this year. Petrino's former understudy at Louisville, this will be Redman's first NFL start since 2004. He played well in Week 13 and got the ball to Alge Crumpler seven times, so in a good matchup, you could do worse in a two-QB league. It's looking more like both Byron Leftwich and Joey Harrington could be goners in the offseason. Dec. 6 - 3:06 pm et

Well, I have to say, this is one of the first things I've agreed with Petrino on for awhile. I still wonder what would've happened had he brought in Redman instead of Leftwich in the Tennessee game. I'll never, ever understand that decision.

BTW, anyone got an answer for why he was pulled in '02? Was that the year they drafted Boller and gave him a shot? Did he get injured? Maybe he's the next Derek Anderson?

I know he had major back issues, which really affected his play. At the time, his arm strength looked well below average. How did his arm/throws look on sunday?

Never went too deep, and the only ball that was over 30 yards was long enough but was either thrown to the wrong route, or the wrong one was run, and was picked. Looked like he had plenty of zip on it. He had great accuracy in 10-20 yards, and nice touch on the TD to White.

As someone that owned Redman back in dynasty leagues in early 2000s and lives in the Balt/DC area, I have seen him play several times.

He did have back issues, which caused him to miss the entire 2006 season as well as parts of 2002 and 2003 if I recall. The back problems contributed to the Ravens drafting Boller.

The guy is very accurate, and had an arm that is "good enough". Not a rocket, but certainly can make the throws needed. One thing he had trouble with in the past was vs a strong rush... I wonder how he will do when he isn't facing a team down 20 points in a prevent.

I always liked the guy as a QB, and thought he would be a solid starter. I wouldn't be suprised to see him play well down the stretch and be allowed to start in 09 and groom a guy like Brohm/Woodson or whoever Atlanta drafts.
