Christmas babies unite (1 Viewer)

I know there are a few of us out here. My birthday is today so I was ruminating on birthdays past. They sucked. Pretty much all of them. In my childhood I had one memorable birthday(i turned 5) where my babysitter had a party for me. There were 3-4 kids and she rented a pony for rides. It was a good time and is seriously the only childhood birthday that sticks with me. Somewhere there is a picture of me all cowboyed up on the pony.

As an adult more of the same. Everyone is far too busy at this point in the year. Or even worse they want to combine my birthday with a Christmas party. Jesus wasn't even born on the 25th and yet he still hogs my tiny moment. I remember a couple of birthdays where my wife got me a great present but that's about it. It's really just another day for the most part.

I've kind of let it get me down in years past and just laid around all day not really doing much. Well this year I decided to take it into my own hands. Got myself some goodies I have wanted and have a day planned. Got my reserved seat for Star Wars. After that going to my favorite restaurant to eat. And then going home to video game out on my new TV.

Please parents if you have a child born close to Christmas make sure to take the day for them. Not a combined celebration, not combined gifts because it's easier. A day that is truly theirs. Seems petty and childish I guess but I really feel like I missed out on something.

Feel free to air your grievances. It is Festivus after all. Next will come the test of strength.

Oh and as a side note crossed the 80k post mark. Wow when I started posting here I had no idea I would still be here all these years later. I hope most of those have been worth reading and maybe even entertained on occasion. Thanks for putting up with me all these years.

There's a bunch of Christmas threads already. Did we really need a separate thread for this?

My birthday is on the 28th -- right between Christmas and New Years Eve. There is really no way to ever celebrate between those two days.

I recall growing up getting my birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper. My parents would usually just grab a gift as a holdover. Always sucked when it was a video game that I was really looking forward to then had to wait 3 additional days to get it. Or if it were part of one of the Christmas gifts and it wasn't "whole" without the birthday gift part. Had my birthday been in the middle of the summer, I still would have gotten what I got for Christmas plus the birthday gift for Christmas, basically screwed out of a gift.

ETA - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

See this is what I'm talking about. This isn't a Christmas thread it's a birthday thread.
:lmao:

Seriously, it kind of stinks for the spouse, too. It's tough enough trying to figure out what to get my wife for either her birthday or Christmas, let alone having both within about a week of each other. Combined presents are strictly forbidden.

But yeah, no question we make the day all about her, though.

Oh - and lets not forget at school how we get lumped together with other birthdays over winter break and have our birthday celebrations on the same day as the Christmas party

Good for you. The presents don't matter as much as the one day of feeling like it's your day and you're special to people, at least that's the part I feel like I missed.

ETA - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
We've talked about celebrating my wife's half birthday in June instead. It started out as a joke, but we may just do it next year. Maybe we'll just do presents in June and all the other celebrating on her real birthday. She'll probably make out better than average, but would deserve it after getting gypped all those years.

I know some families that do this it seems to really work well.

I know a couple people who do half birthdays.

Otoh, I also know someone born on Feb. 29th and half her identify is wrapped up being a leap year baby.

One of our sons has a December birthday but we make sure to not do any joint Christmas/Birthday gifts. We make time to celebrate with our immediate and then extended family, just like everyone else's birthday.

Off to Star Wars. Try to stay on track. I am leaving Xulf in charge and he will be taking names, so act accordingly.

My birthday today as well.

I've had more than my fair share of combined presents, presents wrapped in xmas paper, etc.Man that use to burn me up.

My parents (both only children) and grandparents purchased practical gifts (aka clothes) for your birthday, and some for christmas too. Always hated having a dozen sweaters, of which I never wore, and one pair of the cool shorts or t-shirt growing up. Got to the point that I asked my parents to move my b-day to June. I cited the above and voluteered to wait the extra 6 months They actually did it for a few years until I hit my teens, could buy my own clothes, and it didn't matter much. To my parent credit though they ALWAYS had a birthday party for me. It was just my grandparents on my moms side and my folks so not a huge deal, but they made it happen regardless of the fact they'll be seeing each other for hours on end on Xmas eve.

You're a good man, Charlie NCC.

Happy Birthday, your posts are awesome, great top post as well. Have a great birthday, Christmas and Holiday season.

My poor brother in law has a Christmas Eve birthday. We have a yearly party for him but it is inevitably a present and Christmas party. Guy is a zillion years old and he is still subjected to this, now only at his in-laws. Can't even get his own dedicated birthday party.

Happy birthday, and we are here for you brother :hifive:

Mine is the 30th, and it never really bothered me as a kid. It seems worse now as an adult because everyone goes away for New Years Eve that it is difficult to do anything fun with friends.

Happy Birthday Odin!

Yeah, it sucks for the parents too. In the three weeks between December 19th and Jan 11th, we have four birthdays (my mom's and three out of four kids), Christmas, New Years, bowl season, FF playoffs, my parents' anniversary (seriously, why get married right after Christmas?), not to mention the various get togethers and what-not that go with the season. Bah humbug! :wall: :censored:

Prospective parents should just stay celibate during the months of March & April.
true. but it's just starting to get warm enough to get naked and not freeze :pickle:

My son's birthday is the 14th and we always do a birthday party for him. This year he actually got two - one at my house and one at his grandma's.

My mom's birthday is Dec. 27. She used to tell a story that one year for Christmas she got one roller skate, and for her birthday she got the other one. Poor mom...

Happy Birthday, NCC! My GF was born on Christmas Day so I've made sure to have Christmas AND Birthday presents ready for her on Friday. Will be doing birthday stuffs well after we do our Christmas thing.

I was born on New Year's Day which was usually just far enough away such that I didn't get the combo presents/festivities. There were a couple though and a couple of notorious combo-gifters growing up but that's mostly over now.

Here's to another 80k posts coming from you. You're a good guy with a good head on your shoulders.

I got batteries for my birthday and had to wait for Christmas for the toy they went in once. But that skate thing is worse.
