Christmas Tree Light Help! (pics inside link working) (1 Viewer)

It seems that every year we have a light string go out. VERY annoying as we put alot of effort into setting up the tree each year.

Can anyone recommend a good light brand/type? Are leds better than incandescent?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Link doesn’t work for me either, some  kind of overcapacity message.

I just buy whatever Loew’s sells (GE??) and haven’t had any issues going on the third or fourth year with these strands (LED). I am pretty careful with how they get packed away though. Maybe you are winding them up a little too tightly? 

Basement unusually warm by any chance?

 
It is working.

I have the same problem every year. We have a 14 foot artificial tree that I put probably 6-7 strings of lights on. Every year at least one of them will die during the holiday and I just throw it away. The next year I test all of them before I put them up and for some reason at least one of them will have died during the put away or take out process. I throw it away.  This year I tested them all before I put them up, they were all working,  but sure enough, I get them all in place and one of the strings died in the install. Guess what? I threw it away.

I just don't have the patience to check bulbs and fuses. I buy whatever lights are on clearance sale after the the holidays because I know the next year I will need a string or two. In my experience, there is no such thing as a reliable, good string. Buy cheap either on Black Friday or after the holiday on clearance.

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or not, but I'm tired of fighting this battle. It's 2023 and I need a new 12 foot tree. Have had prelit for years and they are a major PITA.

Isn't there anything out there that is prelit but also won't have annual lighting problems? It's 2023 people! What are those Chrissy Tree labs working on, if not this? Haven't they solved this problem yet??

Has anyone run across a good solution that doesn't involved wrestling with light strings all the time??

They design them to have annual problems. That way you buy a new one every year.

We just got a Balsm Hill tree after Christmas last year on clearance. I has LEDs. Looked good on the video and when we tested it in January
 
Was thinking about going with a Balsam Hill fake tree, but will go with a fresh one again this year.

Will revisit this thread when we set up the tree.

No, but just add a new set of lights where the non working lights are.


We have real trees and we use A LOT of lights, like 3000. Each year there will be a few strands where not half work. I used the working lights and then just ball up the non working part and place it on the backside.

By the time you put up all the deco you shouldnt be able to see inside the tree and nobody notices.

Buy an LED light keeper. Real easy to use. I have fixed at least $100 worth of lights each of the last 2 years.

Here's the thing, I don't have LEDs. That's how I buy new strands every year for $3.

Soooo...I forgot to mention how cheap I am.

I'm looking at this one on Amazon and thinking it looks good but my GOSH how expensive that is. That Balsom Hill tree is a whole other level of expense. We're talking FBG income there. I'm looking to spend AC Forum money at best.

The bolded is on the right track though. If we can get that with no light problems, ever, and get this to under $750, then we're cooking with Crisco.

don't know about no problems with the lights ...ever - lol, but they get decently discounted after Christmas, so you're SOL for this year
 
I paid 289 for my last tree 10 years ago. I had to fix lights twice. Once because I accidentally smashed some putting it away. I'll decorate a piece of wood cut like a tree before I shell out thousand bucks for a fake tree
