Any news on Sidney Rice? At this point I'm not counting on this guy to help my team at all, but would love for him to surprise and he and Favre pick up where they left off last year

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Indianapolis Colts defensive captain Gary Brackett left with a right hand injury late in the first quarter of Thursday night's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

Brackett, the Colts' starting middle linebacker, was trying to tackle Packers running back Ryan Grant on a short gain when it appeared teammate Philip Wheeler came crashing through and hit Brackett's hand on his helmet.

More than a half-dozen trainers and Colts personnel surrounded Brackett, who left for the locker room a few minutes later with a towel wrapped over the right hand and forearm.

The team said Brackett was questionable to return.

Brackett, 30, signed a five-year, $33 million deal during the offseason to stay with the Colts, hours after he officially became an unrestricted free agent.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- St. Louis Rams wide receiver Donnie Avery left Thursday night's preseason game against the New England Patriots with a right knee injury.

Avery, who led Rams wide receivers with 47 catches last season, was hurt with 1:32 left in the first half. He jumped for Sam Bradford's long pass down the right sideline, fell and clutched his right knee as the ball dropped incomplete.

Before Avery was carted off the field, Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker went over and extended his hand. Welker is playing again after having surgery for a torn ligament in his left knee in February.

Avery, a second-round draft pick out of Houston in 2008, had 53 receptions as a rookie and started 28 games in his first two seasons. He caught two passes for 48 yards Thursday before being injured.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan revealed that Clinton Portis suffered a sprained ankle in the team's preseason win over the Jets Friday. This explains why he had one carry. Shanahan says the severity is unknown, so the Skins are probably giving Portis an MRI. Even if the sprain is not significant, this is a reminder that Portis is a poor bet to stay healthy entering his age-29 season. Among active players, only LaDainian Tomlinson, Fred Taylor, and Thomas Jones have more carries than Portis' 2,176.

Updated Tuesday Morning 9/7/10 to reflect that WAS QB Donovan McNabb was back in practice on Monday after sitting out two weeks with a sore ankle.

I want to suggest that current injuries result in a bold, red font for the player's name. I appreciate the thread BIGTIME, but it's a little tedious to re-read everything for updates (unless, of course, I'm missing something).
