Chronic Gamblers (1 Viewer)

Ok, myself and my group of skid marks from high school all have gambling problems.

I came up with an idea during one of my reefer induced brainstorms... I pitched it... and it`s going down.

12 teams. All drafted by me, as if I were the owner of each team. I will take risks, make safe picks, but will pick for each team as if it was my $1,000 team.

At the end of this, all 12 league members will wager (a still undecided amount, but a few hundred) on the team they THINK will win the league.

Potentially, 12 guys could pick the same team. Alternatively, noone could pick the winning team, and in essence, we all walk out even. If 3 teams pick the winning squad, the pool gets split 3 ways.

All teams will be chosen via `secret` ballot during the week before redraft happens (at our draft party, which all 12 guys attend)

Best ball format, roster size still TBD. Rizz Format.

Thoughts??? :banned:

I rule.

Scored some good ####, huh?

Kind of interesting. I think it would be cool to roll the winnings over if nobody picks the winning team. Also, you don't really need 12 people in the pool. You could have 10, 20, etc...

Used to live in British Columbia. Just send it over to here by mail.

Same 12 dudes for the past who knows how many years. We do anything gambling related together... But ya, anyone could join

I love this idea - after you do it, post the thread and poll here too so we can all vote.
well, unfortunately it's months away from now... but since the idea was instantly voted in, I know it's on.Thus, when the time times, i'll be sure to bump this and add a poll, etc

Because you have a gambling problem I think you should also bet which team has the highest weekly score, and which player at each position has the highest score too. So highest starting QB, RB, WR, TE. Do it like skins and if no one wins the highest scoring WR started that week then it rolls over to next week. So you have to divide up all the money and split it between all of the spots and do it all season long. So 5 bucks each week for the highest score and positions 25 x 16 = 400 and than 50 or 100 bucks for who you think would be the best team or make each person draw a team out of a hate. I would play that.

Do you have to manage every team during the season, i.e. set starting line-ups, waiver wire pick-ups, etc.? If so, and you have bet on one of the twelve teams, isn't that a conflict of interest? You will be biased towards the team you are betting on.Or is it just draft a team, and that teams roster is set for the whole season?

large rosters. best ball format.no waivers, no FA.Teams will be pretty large

Who's going to set the starting lineup each week? Someone has to do it.

When I first started reading your tread...I was like, this is stupid... The more i read and thought about it...I really dig it. Looking forward to this idea next year when you post it. Bravo!!!

I really like this idea. I think this format should be nicknamed "horse racing". You place your bet on the horse (team) you like and see who wins the race. Also, the way you set it up, it creates an informal system of odds for favorites/underdogs. I.e., with 12 people, if 6 people bet on the favorite, they are basically getting 2:1 odds. If they choose a long shot that no one else picks, they're looking at 12:1 odds. Obviously, you don't know the odds ahead of time, but it encourages people to not just bet on the obvious favorite. And as mentioned, I think running it as a weekly skins-type bet each week would be a good idea, yet would be more difficult to manage. I would enjoy looking at matchups, etc to decide which team I like each week.

I like it.. what do you call it?? Can you rebuy if your team doesnt make the playoffs?? Maybe with a smaller percentage of the winnings if your second team that you picked wins it??

Just thought Id bump this to let you know we are doing this - Ill be drafting late August and the buy in is $150.

Ill let you all know how it goes

Uhm, I know I'm missing something, isn't this a recipe for collusion? But not if no roster changes are made during the course of the year? Makes sense if you bet right after the draft and no further changes are made and the score is tallied at the end of the year?

What's stops you from creatively (and subtly) stacking one team with guys you're really high on, so you can bet on that team? You aren't guaranteed to win, but it gives you a higher chance and a reason to be biased.

Love this idea.

To make this interesting from week to week you should set lines for teams based off of projected totals. For example;

Team - Projected Weekly Team Score - Line

#1 - 108 - (-150)

#2 - 103 - (-140)

#3 - 98 - (-130)

...

#11 - 87 - (+140)

#12 - 84 - (+150)

Whether my idea is stupid or not, good job on coming up with an interesting idea.

Collusion, how?

Best ball format

NO roster changes, no waivers, no trades, no nothing

deep rosters, Id say about 24 deep per team (still working on the exact numbers.

Once I draft all the teams, all 12 league members get to examine each squad for a few days, and I take all bets at a predetermined time, and make mine public at the same time as well (we all use Whatsapp group chat, so it'll be easy)

Insert all the teams into a yahoo league, and every can watch from home as their team flied or ####s the bed.

I draft with too many likeminded people.

in a 24 player, best ball format, I dotn think bias will play much of a part at all. plus, i'll try to stay close to ADP's for the first 7-8 rnds at least I think

You could do a two step approach. Two leagues in one, more or less.

Part 1 - I'll use $150 for math, break that up into increments divided by 6. Each team gets a $25 chip to place on, as many as six teams. This can be done secretly or it can be done like a draft and when one team gets to $150, that team is closed. It's possible that six owners share one team, share one pot. It's also possible that one team has fewer than six owners thus more of the money goes to those owners. Or, since there are 12 teams and you don't want to exclude one team from picking the "best" team, break it up into 12 pieces ($12.50 per chip) and teams "bid" on their favorite in a draft order again, once a team fills up, that team is done.

---- Or, do an auction. If someone wants to bid $150 on one team, they get that team. Work it down from there. Problem comes in when two owners want to bid the $150 on one team. Coin flip maybe.

Part 2 - weekly games. Play with another $85 through the season and bet $5 per week on each team having the high score. Each team can be bet on however if each team plays one team and they do score the high, each team gets $5 back. If the team that scores the highest points is not bet on, the week carries over. If one player bets on the high team he gets the money for that week. $60 for that week.

Total = $235
