This would be a great hire by the Ravens. The "U" made a horrible mistake last year by passing on this guy. He has great HC potential at either level. Would also be a damaging loss to Cleveland.

Ravens to interview Browns offensive coordinator

By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer

January 4, 2008

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, who turned Cleveland's offense into one of the NFL's most potent attacks, will interview for the Baltimore Ravens coaching vacancy.

Browns general manager Phil Savage confirmed late Thursday night that the Browns had granted the Ravens' interview request.

It is not known when the 39-year-old Chudzinski will meet with the Ravens, who fired Brian Billick on Monday after a lackluster 5-11 season, his ninth in Baltimore.

Under the 39-year-old Chudzinski, the Browns had two 1,000-yard receivers (Braylon Edwards, Kellen Winslow) and a 1,000-yard rusher (Jamal Lewis). Quarterback Derek Anderson, who began the season as a backup, threw 29 touchdown passes.

The Browns averaged 25.1 points and 351.3 yards per game.

Chudzinski was San Diego's tight ends coach for two seasons before joining Romeo Crennel's staff last January. Cleveland's offense carried the Browns, who were coming off a 4-12 season, to a 10-6 record, and they barely missed making the AFC playoffs.

Chudzinski was Cleveland's tight ends coach in 2004 under Butch Davis. Before joining the Browns, he spent 10 seasons at the University of Miami, his alma mater, where he coached Winslow.

of course, on the plus side, he can't take the line with him.

I don't see Chud going anywhere.

As much as the players have stated that Billick lost the team's confidence, they have also stated how much they look up to and enjoy playing for Rex Ryan. IMO, Ryan will be the next HC in Baltimore. It would make sense to me.

It really doesn't matter who the players like, IMO. I don't think the ownership will consider that at all.

Ahhh ####. You know, they are just trying to get us back for sniping Anderson and Savage....and showing them that JLew has some juice left in the tank.

Give him a raise and promote him to asst head coach. He'll stay.

Well, this was the owner who asked the players what they thought about Billick before firing him.I agree though, this is the last team in the NFL that should be letting the inmates run the asylum right now. I've often thought over the years that Ray Lewis' "leadership" has consisted of a large amount of usurping of the head coach's authority.

This was my thought as well. If the owner is willing to ask their thoughts on the current HC before firing him, what's to stop him from asking a follow up question of "Is there a coach on this team who could do better as HC?" :deadhorse:

According to his press conference, Bisciotti asked team staffers (Don't know whether that's front office, coaches, or what) if they thought Billick had lost the team (and whether he could regain it) but players were not asked directly. Don't know how much you believe the guy, but I'm pretty sure that's what he said.

IMO they (Ravens) need someone older with experience who will come in and command respect from the veterans on the team. A lot of these players have been around and they won't react well to the hiring of some young new coach with no proven track record.

This guy from Cleveland might be the next "big" thing but what does he have under his belt? One year of improving a Cleveland offense? Not enough IMO.

What they should do is go after someone like Bill Cowher or Shotty. and then hire an offensive coordinator that CAN develop young QB talent. Pick up a QB in the draft and let Boller start while this rookie develops. I would say pick up a QQB via free agency but there are NONE. It's either this or go after Anderson, who you could have had for next to nothing if Billick wouldn't have let him go in the first place.

Chudzinski turned them down and accepted i believe a 2 year extension to his Browns contract.

on the radio this morning they were mentioning that the Ravens probably aren't in a big rush to find someone and will take their time.

maybe they're waiting for a coordinator who's still in the playoffs?
