Did the two rookie Ndukwe and Marvin White show enough to let him walk?If so who will benefit the most?Ndukwe seem to get more tackles in his oppurtunities.Marvin did put up a 6/2 stat line in week 17.Thanks in advance.
It's hard to get a read on this situation. Since Marvin has been around, the print media has been misled and/or off on their speculations more often than not.The traditional Bengal MO has been to let their better safeties walk rather than pay them. Darryl Williams, Sam Shade, Kevin Kaesviharn, etc. However, Williams is a huge asset to the community (which the team values), a leader in the locker room and capable of playing some slot corner in a pinch. In the cases of DWilliams, Shade, etal, it was considered a given that the team was letting the player walk. This time, there's been much speculation (from both sides) that Williams could be back -- despite the fact that both White and Ndukwe looked good over the final month of the season. It's difficult to say who would benefit most, since Marvin has used either the FS or SS as a run blitzer and big play defender in his time in Cincinnati. Ndukwe got the bulk of that opportunity in late 2007, so he'd be the odds-on favorite for IDP value right now.
Given the problems with other players in recent years, I'd place a high value on character here. If they let him go, I'd be disapointed in the franchise.

M. Williams is gone, take it to the bank and cash it. Ndukwe and White played good enough that makes this injury prone player expendable. We need Dline help and LBs, not DBs.
Interesting. That would recreate a good S tandem which was what they had in mind when they drafted Landry, though Williams doesn't remotely have Taylor's physical presence or athleticism. As a 'Skins fan, though, I have my doubts about whether that's a good expenditure of FA $$
