Cincinnati Bengals (1 Viewer)

Is it too much to ask for our team to make a little bit of noise during the free agency period? Why am I still a fan of this sorry franchise. I was hoping we would get Shaun Rogers, but instead he goes to one of our rivals. We probably will not make any real noteworthy free agent signings even though we are under the cap, we will probably destroy our draft, and then during the season we will have another mediocre defense. I know I sound pessimistic, but why don't the Bengals seem to ever make any important free agent pickups?

Yeah I don't get it either. You guys were so close to turning the corner a couple years ago. Offense is still one of the best. Premier QB.....arguably the top WR tandem. I'm just really surprised there hasn't been more attention given to the defense.

The Bengals have reportedly agreed to terms with DE Antwan Odom.

They never let him out of the building. If the report is true, Odom will have chosen Cincinnati over the Vikings and Cards, though he never wound up visiting either. The Bengals' recent moves (also trying to deal for Dewayne Robertson) indicate they're not necessarily sold on using a 3-4 in 2008.

They have devoted a majority of their picks to the defense. They've just had a tremendous string of their defensive players getting injured/suspended.

I heard the Robertson deal fell through on the radio. At this point, I won't believe the Odom signing until he shows up at camp.
Yep Robertson fell through also:A deal that would've sent Jets DT Dewayne Robertson to the Bengals in exchange for fourth- and fifth-round picks has reportedly been called off. It's the second deal for an interior tackle Cincinnati has missed out on. The trade hinged on Robertson signing a long-term deal with the Bengals, but he balked at reducing his remaining salaries ($6.8 million in 2008 and $4.5 million in '09). The Jets will likely continue to shop the 26-year-old.Source: FOXSports.com

Bengals agreed to terms with DE Antwan Odom on a five-year, $29.5 million contract. The deal includes $11.5 million guaranteed.

The Bengals' recent moves indicate they're not sold on using a 3-4 defense. Odom, 26, had a career best eight sacks in 2007, but has been an average starter at best as a pro and works best in a rotation. The Bengals will likely put him at right end, where he's struggled, and ask him to play every down. We'd avoid Odom in IDP leagues.

Sporting News ranked Odom as the #1 free agent DE (ahead of Justin Smith).
