Cincy snaps back vs Browns choking on rarified air (1 Viewer)

On paper it's a great fantasy matchup, something every Bengals/Browns owner circled on the calendar weeks back and hoped they'd get to the championship game to see it unfold. Also, 51-45 from week 2 still looms in the back of everyone's mind.

But, anyone who watched that Bengal game on Saturday night has to come to the conclusion that this team is not only severely flawed and dysfunctional, but appears to have flat-out quit. Particularly Ocho Cinco. TJ hasn't been right in about 6 weeks, Rudi is d-u-n done, and Carson is about as scattershot as they come lately.

I get the gut feeling that this game is largely a fantasy letdown. Jamal grinds the clock because Cincy's D can't stop him anyway, Edwards and Winslow get a few cathces but nothing spectacular, and the Bengals mail in another one.

As a Palmer/Edwards owner, I hope I'm dead wrong, but this is going to be an ugly two weeks for Cincy fans, on top of an already ugly season.

Cleveland has give up 27 passing TDs on the year. You would think Palmer, CJ and TJ would have a big day. As a Palmer and CJ owner I am not expecting much. Cinny just looks like a team ready for the off season.

And no passing TDs in the past two weeks. The much maligned defense is tightening up.

To put it in context, against the Jets and against the Bills during a bad snow storm.

In other words, Irish is hoping like hell that the Bengals beat the Browns so that the Steelers can back into the division title.

How is the Steelers winning their two games backing into the division title?

Bengals want win, not revenge

'W' most important as Browns come to town on cusp of playoff bid

BY MARK CURNUTTE

The Cleveland Browns will bring their 9-5 record to Cincinnati on Sunday needing only a victory against the Bengals to qualify for the AFC playoffs.

The Bengals are four games worse than the Browns at 5-9. The Bengals are headed home and with a losing record for the first time since 2002, which was the last time the Browns went to the playoffs.

Do the Bengals find any additional motivation in spoiling the Browns' postseason invitation for even one more week?

"You have to be motivated to win the football game," Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said Monday. "The things they have going on is their deal. The big thing is just that we want to win the football game."

No revenge, like when the Bengals entered the regular-season finale in 2003 needing a victory against the Browns - plus some help - to make the playoffs in Lewis' first season as Bengals coach? The Browns upset the Bengals 22-14 at Paul Brown Stadium.

No.

What about some payback for the 51-45 whipping the Browns laid on the Bengals' defense in Week 2 at Cleveland?

"There has been a lot of football, so it's hard to put it on one game," Lewis said. "But we lost the football game up there. We had the opportunity to put them away, and we didn't."

The Bengals allowed 554 yards of total offense to Cleveland, including 216 rushing yards to Jamal Lewis.

"(Lewis) had a good game the last time, but the two or three previous (while with the Baltimore Ravens), not as good," Marvin Lewis said.

In Game 8 of 2006, Jamal Lewis ran for 72 yards and one touchdown against the Bengals and followed it with 17 attempts for 61 yards in Game 12.

But the running back, in his first season in Cleveland, has found new life. He has rushed for 1,084 yards (4.3 average) and nine touchdowns.

BEREA, Ohio -- The Browns can clinch a playoff berth with a win this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals or a Tennessee Titans loss to the New York Jets.

Cleveland (9-5) leads Tennessee (8-6) by a game for the final AFC wild-card spot and holds the tie-break advantage (conference record, because the teams did not play). The Browns also are still in the running for the AFC North title after beating Buffalo 8-0 on Sunday, though the Pittsburgh Steelers (9-5) hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.

"If we win and take care of our job and our business, then we'll get where we want to be," Browns coach Romeo Crennel said. "Really, it hasn't changed (from the past couple of weeks), but we're just a little bit closer, I think."

Cincinnati has been a tough matchup for Cleveland, winning five straight before the Browns ended the streak in week two with a 51-45 victory.

"They're the type of team we've struggled with," Crennel said. "They're able to score points and it's a battle. It's going to be a struggle, and we realize that."

The Browns haven't swept the season series against the Bengals since 2002, the last time the Browns made the playoffs

Well, they should take care of St. Louis AND Baltimore on the road, they are playing very well and are the healthiest they've been in a while...

Good we agree then.

Slight hijack, but should Cincy beat CLE and the Titans run the table, CLE is out of the playoffs. THAT is how important this game is...

ya cant forget the fact that there might be some really bad weather at game time. CLE didn't do anything fantasy friendly last week. And the 2 games before last, Palmer played in bad weather and didnt do very well.

Our league is only in our semi's this week, and yes this day has been on my mind for some time. With Palmer and Edwards and maybe depending on weather letting Graham PK I am hoping for lights out again. My opponent has Anderson so this baby should be a shootout again. Let's pray for some decent weather though.

10 day forecast shows a high of 44 degrees and a 30% chance of rain in the afternoon turning to snow at night. Anybody else hear anything different?

That's what I'm seeing.. but if it's 44 and no rain... it feels like summer to us.

For whom might this be a fantasy point bonanza?
In PPR leagues, Edwards will have his best game of the season. Expect at least 12 catches for 180 yards and a score. Also, Kenny Watson will be absolutely HUGE. I expect him to better his week 7 performance when he ran for over 130 yards and 3 scores versus the Jets, however, he'll add 7-8 receptions in the mix two.Anyone with these two players on their roster is winning their title this week. Guaranteed.

Which means it'll be 40-50 degrees and there's a 70% chance there will be no precipitation. :lmao:
