Again, i thought we were all aligned on this.

Taking a Level 1 to a Level 3 xbow increases your total dps by 25 points and craters our war matchmaking.

Taking a Level 6 anti air to level 7 increases your total dps by 50 and doesn't impact matchmaking in any meaningful way.

Sorry, I had no idea that this was not the aligned thinking. Some people may not have the idea about just how minor the xbow upgrade levels were in terms of actually helping defend your base versus anything. It's 11.5 Million gold and 26? days of builder time to barely move the needle, again I thought we were all on the same page here that xbow was pretty damn useless past level 1.

Basically our entire roster of TH9 in fbgs had frozen out xbow upgrades for as much as 2 months now and it really, really helped our war results. Actually it made an impact nearly immediately.

Another great benefit of our multi-clan ecosystem. If FBGs is really going to become the super-serious war clan, to the point that how you develop matters, this kind of thing makes sense.

Honda has a great community, the PG language req, and designates serious wars and fun/training wars.

The new quattraboog, as I understand it, is serious in wars, but only 2x per week and clan members can opt out to be part of the clan, farm, and donate. Thus, maximizing the matchmaking algorithm seems like less a concern here, build your base however you like/feel best.

Is this an incorrect summary?

Quattraboog wars 3x a week, but we don't require people in Quattraboog to war at all. Some are farmer-only players who still get the perks of us leveling up the clan and contribute to a larger donation pool.

I think we offer a lot of guidance and at times will call something out if there's an obvious problem (I think I posted a couple pages ago about CC/AA location) but we do not issue clan-wide edicts about what the current upgrade policy is. To each is own, for the most part, just get your war attacks in and follow whatever the gameplan is.

This is closer to me. I like the warring. I like the strategizing. I like the camaraderie. I just don't like rules telling me I need to get my heroes to a certain level before I'm allowed to upgrade something. I play for fun. I understand if a guy is screwing up your wars by leaving exposed TH's, hitting other peoples targets, or only potting. We can only do so much, and a fun part of the game is getting defenses up, so i don't get my ### torn apart by people raiding me.

buck, have you actually looked at how minor the impact xbow levels give you? Just curious.

Does it matter? I think MOST of us are just upgrading things when we have the funds and builder availability. Heck, I'm upgrading a giant bomb right now because I had a builder open up, but not enough gold or elixir for anything else until this war finishes and I can farm. Should I just do nothing then?

you will quickly find that the builder time at th9 is not that valuable. Compared to TH8 there is actually substantially less builder time to allocate and tons more lab time if you take out the heroes.

Part of the reason is that Quattro doesn't have a matchup problem with our current make up. I don't know, maybe we would start regulating stuff more if we started getting unfavourable matchups. We just happen to have some lower levels, very few rushed players, and we're in 25 v 25.

And Buck, we have roster spots right now, but we're at exactly 25 who want to war. So unless someone drops or we get four more, not sure how we handle that.

Yeah I've got four builders counting sheep right now. Have had for awhile.

Why be upgrading archer towers rather than xbows then? Also 10 new DPS iirc, and does nowhere near the same impact on war matchmaking.

Not everyone needs to do what I plan on (just not upgrading them until the very end, if ever) but the principle of focusing more on offense definitely matters.

My TH9 plan has been focused on dumping gold into Wiz Tower and Tesla when I have a builder, or walls. At the same time, by focusing on farming elixir and dark elixir only, I maxed out every single elixir upgrade building and jumped heroes a ton.

Gold doesn't matter. It should be third on the list of farming goals. It piles up incidentally.

Again, had no idea this was such a major point of contention. We had this discussion about freezing out xbows like 3 months ago. We had someone run a regression in a survey that proved just how much they hurt us with no meaningful impact for defense in farming or wars in black and white. The result of which led to a really nice string of victories when we got softer matchups. Just want to keep us focused on how to tweak our mix just right as we are moving lots of 9 to 10 and 8 to 9.

I've had sleeping builders most of the time I've been a TH9. I didn't upgrade a single defense for months. Even now that I'm approaching the end of my lab research, I'm only upgrading 2 defenses at a time. Pretty sure this has been helpful in Quattro's war matchmaking.

Now imagine a group of ten L7 barbs. The cannon needs 24 seconds to eliminate them, but the Xbow needs only 18 seconds.

Why? The cannon must fire 3 times at each barb, for a total of 180 dmg. 55 points of that are wasted (each barb has 125 hp). The Xbow is far more efficient, wasting only ~9 dmg on each barb.

Not to mention, the Xbow has FAR better range and/or can also be set to hit air.

Yeah, but the secret of the shuke is that a TH8 down one aa from a zap can't stop a 11 drag + Max hound assault. A L2 hound probably works just as well. I've just been spoiled.

In war though this isn't as useful. All xbows are set to air in war so the range isn't that great. Gowiwi guys know that you throw some witches towards an xbow and golems then they won't hit anything of consequence.

For air, it takes roughly an hour for an xbow to take down a hound and this is where their range actually hurts them. It's pretty tough to get an xbow OUT of range of an anti air which to defend lavaloon is exactly what you want. You want them shooting the loons, not the hound.

And their HP isn't that great. Just takes 3 loon strikes to kill a L1. This doesn't index to 4 until level 4. (This statement made from memory, allow me some time to fact check this)

Go back to base 19 from the last war. The one that Zub 3 starred with a gowoppy. (yes, a little of me died inside when he did it, but great raid) Why did I think that was ground and not an air base despite it having 4 isolated anti airs? Because the xbows were out of range of the anti air, very unusual. The loons would have died crossing the core. Zub just tanked them and lolsmashed the base.

Actually it goes up to 4 loon strikes at L3 and 5 at L4.

I've been running one like it from a Troopers video for a couple weeks now. Asymmetric, centered clan castle, some central airD and at least 1 xbow outside of the TH compartment is what they do. Hasn't been hit by air yet, so, hard to tell what pathing problems it can present, but, only been 3*'d once from a max GoWoppy.

Youtube, search for reddit troopers and just steal any of their bases. Granted, most people that post attacks against the troopers are showing off their 3* attack so you'd be like "Why would I want a 3*'d base?".

To that I'd answer, the clans doing those attacks are out of our league anyway.

Oh ya? Well...when you have a neighbor with 5 barking dogs that you have tried to resolve directly and via local pet enforcement to minimal affect....you'll be WISHING for a friggin HOA. Or, if your hillbilly neighbor parks his 5th wheel camper in his front yard so his in-law can stay with them for a month...you'll be LONGING for an HOA.
