Cleveland swaps picks with Minnesota (1 Viewer)

Browns just traded up to #3

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jay Glazer ‏ @JayGlazer

I'm hearing we have our first trade; Cleveland moving up from #4 to #3 w Minnesota. Giving up 3 picks to move into the 3rd spot

###### it browns...unless those extra 2 picks are both 4th round or later, I hate this trade.

Just stay put and take whoever is left between Claiborne and Richardson.

Huge mistake taking Richardson. They are not close to being a contender. Richardson will be wasted on a 3rd of 4th place (in the division) team for years.

Richardson to the Browns

Done deal

ETA: I thought someone else would do the deal to secure the 3rd spot and Richardson

May have panicked, but they desperately needed a playmaker on offense & got one now.

Congrats Brandon Weeden.

Edit: Have QB's ever went 1-2-3 before??

Disagree. Teams turn around so quickly in the NFL. Cleveland has some pieces, improving defense, Richardson may help the passing game as well. Not saying they are a contender immediately but don't think it's accurate to say "not close".Not a Browns fan btw. (go 'Boys!)

Vikes clearly told Clev they had teams looking to move into their spot for Richardson. If the Browns are in love, good move. They got that big haul last year so they can afford the late rd picks.

horrible move by the browns. good chance they get their guy at 4 anyway. and if not, whoevers left would be fine.

For Minnesota to only get those late round picks it means they had no better offers and they probably have a good idea who the Browns would take and they don't value that player.

Horrible, pathetic, awful, gutless, move by Heckertt.

Minnesota gets 3 free picks as they were never taking Richardson and still get to pick who they want at 4.

I get that Cleveland is protecting themselves but still Minnesota gets free picks.

O wow, your right... Why would he make that deal? hmmm theres no way Minn takes him...strange strange strange

You got to start somewhere man you can't just by pass the best draft prospects year after year.At some point you need to make a stand and draft some great players.Maybe they should just never draft a good player ? Maybe they should suck forever ?No matter who they pick they are not close to being a contender so they should pick a worse talent ?

4th, 5th and a 7th isn't that much. I'm surprised STL, TB or anyone else wouldn't have been offering more.
Maybe the Vikings don't want to go that far down
I get that, but is there any guarantee that the Browns won't take the Vikings guy? Kahlil? THere were mixed signals that the Vikings like him that much. I would assume that TB would offer a lot more, the Vikes could move down to #5, and the Browns weren't taking the Vikes guy anyway.

This draft is going to be nuts. So is Minn still taking Kalil? Seems to me it indicates that they will because they probably had bigger offers but didnt want to go that far down. This way (only going down one pick) they only get late picks in return but they still "get their guy".

Not a whole lot of logic here. Holmgren has a proven track record.
Holmgren is a team president. Team President picks the head coach and GM. He is responsible for picking Tom Heckert and Pat Shurmur. Holmgren is an unproven rookie in his current role.

You guys are crazy. Great ####### trade for browns. Love it.

They took (if they take Richardson) a guy with a shelf life of 8 years max in a league going to a shared backfield. Really horrid move. LaDanian Tomlinson couldn't get it done whne the Charges took him. The Browns won't be getting it done with this guy. It's flat out dumb. No one builds around a RB anymore.

There's no rule that says Min can't trade down again.

.....Working his way to Parcells level (nothing since 1997) in more ways than one. :X

yup. any time you can give up extra picks to draft the same player you gotta jump on it.

I wanted Holmgren to come to Cleveland since 1999. But I wanted him as head coach. If there's one common theme with everything the Browns have done since 1999, its that they keep putting unproven people in charge. Every head coach has been a rookie. Every GM has been a rookie. They get Holmgren, but of course put him in a position he has never held before...I think its fine to have a rookie head coach or a rookie GM, but not both.

Good trade by the Vikes, but let's not pretend that those picks are worth much.
I'm sure they aren't. I'm guessing Minn had someone else with an offer on the table but didn't want to drop as far back as that team was. They picked up the phone and called Clev to make them believe that team was trading up to get the guy Clev wanted.
