Clinton Portis (1 Viewer)

I got him in the 2nd round this past weekend! (Paired him up with Ronnie Brown)
You should thank the over reactive FootballGuys Gods for that. A lot of teams became VERY strong in the last 10 days on that news; and the resulting Fantasy Panic....
Heads up guys. Big news out of Washington as it looks like Clinton Portis will indeed start week 1 vs the Vikins.. If you've been listening to us, you'll have to cutt Betts and Duckett from your roster and pick up two other scrubs. Thanks to InsidetheStatguy Melvin Scupper for talking most guys off the ledge.Bottom line: Only Shaun Alexander has more 100 yd games in the last 3 seasons. He's always been good.

I agree. Clinton Portis is a superstar player in this league and he will not be pulled at the goaline. Do they pull Shaun Alexander? Do they Pull LT? Do they pull Larry Johnson? Do they pull any great feature runner last season other than Dunn and Parker? Heck they never pulled Ahman Green in his heyday even with Davenport on the sideline. Thomas Jones was not pulled last season, Edge, Rudi, etc etc etc.

Over reaction to a trade.

Portis will get his TD's or their will be serious problems. The man has an ego the size of Texas and he will not be denied access to paydirt. Duckett was brought in for some situational short yardage and an occasional goal line carry as well as garbage time and more depth. Betts is the primary back up as well IMO.

Portis will score anywhere from 9-13 TD's this season as expected.

What does TJ's contract look like? If Gibby uses him on the goalline or gets enough carries wouldn't that increase the price of his trade?

Of course Warshington will use him if needed but if they could keep him from reaching any of those types of contract escalators they probably would.

Right now I still think this is Portis's show. Now this injury has removed him from any thought of being the #1RB this year, but top 10 is still very likely.

Drafting Portis in the second as a RB2, yes please.

Assume Portis does start week 1, who has the balls to play him? I would be making a choice between him and Driver in a PPR league.

Who is the better handcuff..Betts or Dunn if Portis really isn't ok?

I have Portis in two leagues. I'll start him in both and not think twice about it.

Duckett, not Dunn. And, we won't really know who the better handcuff is until after the first game, IMO. If I had to guess now, I'd say Duckett.

Oops...I meant Duckett. Well, Duckett is the one I have rostered.......

I'll probably start him. Vikes have a tough run D, with Pat Williams in the middle though.Duckett is probably the better cuff, but I'd prefer neither.

I think Saunders will get Portis outside a little more, especially if they are playing a team that is strong up the middle.

my thoughts exactly.

I do think we need to see him (Portis) practice in pads and take a hit before we annoint him week 1 starter. I have read where they HOPED Portis would be ready, but nothing sunstantive yet.

No, the coaches need to see him. I don't need to see anything. If he's starting for the Redskins, then he's starting for me.

Agreed, but that is not for certain. After reading this thread, many think it is.

I own Portis in 7 leagues (6 are dynasty) and plan on starting him in every league save MAYBE one, where I'd have to decide between starting Portis, Santana Moss, or T.Bell....

he's EXPECTED to play (and is 'ahead of schedule')... i'm EXPECTING to start him... and if he doesn't start... there's always Plan B.

I agree that it's undetermined as to whether or not he'll play. The coaching staff has never (to date) definitively ruled him in or out of the lineup. We don't even have a formal injury report until next week. It's still wait and see, and while the news of his return to practice (albeit without contact) without the shoulder harness is promising, it bears mentioning that the team is perfectly happy forcing the Vikings to game plan both for Portis and for Betts/Duckett in preparation for their week 1 meeting.

I have excellent RB depth so I may not start him week 1 anyway. Let him play a week and appear OK, then I'll go w/it.

Well, if he's on your roster he's as good as on IR for the year, GB.

Did you guys all forget a couple years ago when Portis only scored 5 TD's? He's not a particularly strong short yardage back.

I reiterate, the coaching staff will not want to put the pounding of short yardage carries on Portis. How many times have you seen a guy try to get in by diving over a pile and landing awkardly on his arm? Something as simple as that could pop his arm right out again.

Enjoy Portis guys. He's a heckuva player but I wouldn't be surprised to see 2004 numbers from him rather than last year's, provided he can even keep the shoulder in place.

The Redskins offense from 2004 isn't any more relevant as an indicator of this year's production than was the offense from Miami in 2004.

cool I just got him in the 2nd round with the 16th pick in a 12 team redraft

9th pick over all

1 R.Johnson

2 Potis

3 Boldin

4. Droughs

5 D. Jax

6. D Mason

7 M Vick

8. M. Barber

:lmao:

I love this news

None of the coaching staff has come out and said anything about Duckett and what his role on the team will be.

I honestly don't think Portis will be pulled in GL situations unless he struggles early on in the season.

I see Duckett being used for the odd short yardage situation (including some goal-lines)

I expect Portis to get at least 10 TD's this season and his fair share of catches.
