For a few years I used a website that had a concise list of all closers, next in line, and third up for all teams. It was always updated and was really convenient. I would print it out just before the draft and know it was up to date. It was great during the season too.

As you can see. it's no longer there and isn't anywhere on the site. Does anyone know of a good one page list that stays current. Similar to FBG's Depth Chart.

Drafted last night. Took K-Rod and Chris Perez. We had yahoo server issues, so we only got through 18 rounds.

Anyway, these guys are left. Drew Storen, Francisco Cordero, Leo Nunez, Joel Hanrahan, Brandon Lyon, Frank Francisco, David Aardsma, Kevin Gregg.

Any ideas as what order to claim these guys in? I have a spot for one of them.

Given the current status of Francisco (visiting Dr. Andrews), I'd probably go:Cordero, Nunez, Lyon, Hanrahan, Gregg, Aardsma, Francisco.Francisco and Aardsma may very well be the two best pitchers available, but they are both DL situations at this point. No sense is starting your season with those headaches for a negligible increase in talent.

Love Razzball for other reasons, but they do a periodic closer watch throughout the season though. Probably nowhere near as valuable as the Cafe thread though.

Here it is for March 22 (www.razzball.com):

$12 Salads (incredibly reliable, but overpriced)

1. Mariano Rivera (Rafael Soriano, Joba Chamberlain)

2. Heath Bell (Luke Gregerson, Chad Qualls, Mike Adams, Pat Neshek)

3. Joakim Soria (Robinson Tejeda, Jeremy Jeffress)

4. Carlos Marmol (+1) (Kerry Wood, Sean Marshall, Andrew Cashner)

Donkeycorns (fairly reliable go-to guys for those that don't want to pay for elite)

5. Jonathan Papelbon (+1) (Daniel Bard, Bobby Jenks)

6. Jose Valverde (+1) (Joaquin Benoit, Ryan Perry)

7. Brian Wilson (-3) (Sergio Romo, Jeremy Affeldt, Santiago Casilla)

8. Jonathan Broxton (Hong-Chih Kuo, Matt Guerrier, Kenley Jansen)

9. Francisco Rodriguez (+1) (Bobby Parnell, Manny Acosta)

10. John Axford (+1) (Takashi Saito, Zach Braddock)

11. Matt Thornton (+3) (Chris Sale, Jesse Crain)

12. Chris Perez (+2) (Rafael Perez, Tony Sipp)

13. Huston Street (Matt Lindstrom, Rafael Betancourt)

14. Craig Kimbrel (+1) (Jonny Venters, George Sherrill)

15. J.J. Putz (-7) (David Hernandez, Juan Gutierrez)

16. Francisco Cordero (+1) (Aroldis Chapman, Nick Masset)

17. Joe Nathan (+4) (Matt Capps)

18. Ryan Franklin (+4) (Jason Motte, Mitchell Boggs)

Brain Freeze

19. Leo Nunez (+4) (Clay Hensley, Edward Mujica)

20. Brandon Lyon (+3) (Wilton Lopez, Jeff Fulchino)

21. Brad Lidge (Ryan Madson, Jose Contreras, Danys Baez)

22. Joel Hanrahan (Evan Meek)

23. Neftali Feliz (-2) (Alexi Ogando, Mark Lowe, Darren O’Day)

24. Fernando Rodney (-1) (Hisanori Takahashi, Kevin Jepsen, Jordan Walden)

25. Kevin Gregg (Koji Uehara, Mike Gonzalez)

26. Brandon League (+2) (David Aardsma)

27. Jon Rauch (-3) (Frank Francisco, Octavio Dotel, Jason Frasor)

28. Brian Fuentes/Grant Balfour (-15) (Andrew Bailey)

29. Kyle Farnsworth/Jake McGee (+1) (Joel Peralta, J.P.Howell)

30. Drew Storen/Sean Burnett/Tyler Clippard/Todd Coffey/Bill Cosby

I didn't realize how little depth there was in the bullpen this year. I focused on hitters for the first several rounds of my head to head keep5 league, and managed some solid SP's. Really happy with those parts of my team. But I usually punt saves and did again this year because there were always guys in the back end of the draft I could pick up - the last two years I've done the same thing and ended up in the top 3 overall for saves.

But this year? Ugh. I either waited too long or there was just nothing out there. 30 round draft, I didn't take a RP until round 24 (and then took one each round 24-29), when the best guy out there was Aardsma. Hopefully he comes back healthy and he gets me 20 or so saves. After that I basically ended up with RP's eligible at SP to go after those stats - Phil Coke, Nelson Figueroa, Bobby Jenks, Kevin Gregg and Luke Gregerson.

So, If Papelbon and Bell go down I may be ok, otherwise I'm basically starting 8 SP's instead of 5 and just giving up on SV's completely.

I have used the later for several years now.
That one seems to have several errors. No indication that Dotel, Sale, Kuo, and Hensley have earned a closers role over Francisco, Thornton, Broxton, and Nunez.
and their writeup on marmol is horrible.
Carlos Marmol has been given many opportunities to lock down the Cubs' closing job, but has failed to do it thanks to his come-and-go approach to command and control. The Cubs spent most of the 2010 winter in the market for a premium closer (which would have pushed Marmol back to setup work), but failed to come up with a better option than ex-Cub Kerry Wood, who is hardly a more reliable arm. And so Marmol's high strikeout, high walk, high drama approach to the ninth inning continued through 2010. Luckily (?) for the Cubs, the team found so many creative ways to lose that Marmol's continued roller-coaster didn't seem very out of place.

Seriously WTF? I have Marmol ranked #1 closer in my pts league that doesnt deduct for BBs

Grab Contrares now, Lidge might be done til the break:

Brad Lidge (shoulder) said Tuesday that he hopes to be back for the second half of the season.Ouch. Lidge actually has a partially torn rotator cuff. He's expected to be shut down completely for 3-6 weeks, but is unlikely to begin throwing for about two months. "Best case is between 3-6 weeks to not throw at all," explained Lidge. "Then you’ve got to build up just as much on the other side, however long it takes. I’m thinking in my mind I’ve got to be back for the second half and have a real good second half, make sure I’m stronger than before. Not just where I was, but stronger. It’s a partial tear of the rotator cuff. If it was in the labrum, that’s game over, out for the season. The rotator cuff doesn’t have to be … It’s still a crappy feeling." Lidge could be back in early-June and that's if everything breaks right. Jose Contreras is expected to fill-in while he's gone.

I think you'll be okay

sean burnett a good pickup? a surprising 2.14 and 1.14 w/ about a k per inning last year

rotoworld

Drew Storen was pummeled by the Mets on Tuesday, giving up four runs and seven hits in two-thirds of an inning.

One of the hits was a three-run homer from David Wright. Storen was coming off three straight strong outings, but this takes his spring ERA back up to 11.12. At this point, Sean Burnett looks like the heavy favorite for April saves for the Nats. Mar 29, 4:35 PM

I just picked him up before clicking on this thread. some reports say he'll be spliting time with Storen, where others don't. either way, can't hurt to grab him

I'm a Nats guy. I picked up Burnett in a league that also has holds. Burnett pitched the top of the 9th today when Nats were down by two (which is often a situation where you bring in closer). I don't think the Nats will give up on Storen (he was first round pick in 2009), but I think Burnett is going to get his fair share of save opps until Storen proves more consistency.

Strange. Not used to closers getting brought in when down by 2 in the 9th. Missed that one.
I see it happen a lot; managers trying to keep the game within reach (and since home team, there will never be a save situation in the game). But maybe it is just a Nats thing since a closer is mostly otherwise filling the Maytag repairman role.

??? Maybe it's a "getting him work" thing. I'm a cubs fan, so I'm not used to how things would go normally.
When Burnett came in, Adam Kilgore, who is the Nats beat writer for the Washington Post, tweeted "Sean Burnett in for the #Nats down 2-0 in the ninth. This is how Riggleman would use the closer, for what it's worth." LinkIt could have been just a "getting him work" thing, but it's not just me who thought Burnett coming in in that situation was noteworthy.

cool beans

I know. It's the one situation that everyone knew was a disaster going in, but unfortunately there isn't "that guy" that you can snag off waivers and wait for him to take the job. Thought maybe there was a lower level guy that people don't know about yet (think Axford last year) who might be a good bet in another month or two. If Hoffman can lose his job, certainly Lyon can lose his.

If Lyons pitches poorly/has injury Lopez is probably the guy they would turn to next. There is not some young flamethrower in the bullpen or in the high minors who the Astros waiting "to see what he can do" if given the job.

This is the thread I always follow.

First post updates throughout the season. Pointless #####ing within the thread can get annoying at times, but the regulars did a better job of smacking it down last season.
This is the best closer thread out there. Period. I check this thread every day. Its spot on accurate since everyone there are die-hard baseball junkies like us, posting what is going on in their home towns. I post there quite often. Actually, I have the most recent post in that closers thread! :D

In leagues I can I'm picking up Farnsworth. McGee pitched the 8th last night and Farnsworth was still available. I think Farnsworth is the sneaky pickup.

What of Melancon?
Mark? Didn't pitch well enough in spring to even lock down the 7th inning role as his own. Apperently, had trouble locating pitches especially on the day of this interview. At 26 is probably no longer truly young, but yearly we have seen relivers (more than most positions) sort of just wake up and get it. Hope that happens here as an Astros fan. http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110401&content_id=17248910&notebook_id=17249340&vkey=notebook_hou&c_id=hou

Yeah, Farnsworth is the guy. For now. I'll be shocked if it lasts the season but there will always be another guy to stream.
